Description : Juliana Spahr writes: "Birds with extremely long necks. Cassiopeia. A sister. A Marco Polo. A somnambulist. A documentary on the voyages of Columbus. A cartographer. Star charts. Young intellectuals in black robes. Jean-Michel Basquiat. More birds and still more birds. A mathematician. All these things appear in The To Sound’s beautifully warped cosmology. This is a stunning book that builds its own world, a world of ambiguous relations and loaded words; a lyrical world that explores the unstated connections between things. . . ."

The volume also features three essays by Perloff: an academic memoir, an exploration of poetry pedagogy, and an essay on the (re)constitution of the intellectuals in the 21st century. It will be an inspiring resource for both scholars and poets who care to live a life of attention, on and off the page of poetry."

Description : Beyond Rain of Gold is the incredible story behind the writing and publication of Victor Villaseñor’s national bestseller Rain of Gold. It captures the difficult and courageous path the author followed to ensure that his family’s saga would be published as the authentic, true account it is. The real power of this book lies in the sacred relationship that Villaseñor has with his father, mother, and ancestors. In other words, Beyond Rain of Gold encompasses the magical messages that Villaseñor’s indigenous ancestors told him are universal themes common to native peoples everywhere on this planet . . . and at one time we were all indigenous. This is an exciting, raw, and honest work, with events occurring that transcend the boundaries of what we normally call reality. And like Carlos Castaneda’s Don Juan trilogy, Beyond Rain of Gold explores altered states of consciousness, revealing the wisdom and magic inherent in everyday existence. This is a book that will make you see the world in an entirely different way, and which will stimulate your mind and emotions to create a New Earth way of thinking and being!

Description : Man is a communal animal. He enjoys and often seeks out friendship. He bonds with his fellow-man and woman out of an intrinsic desire for companionship. For most men, having this companionship and friendship in their lives is a natural part of their existence. It helps to give them a sense of purpose and makes them feel more connected to their environment. But what happens when a man's environment becomes one that places no value on friendship? What happens when his environment becomes so harsh that it cherishes no bond? What happens when friends, lovers, and even family are set against one another in a never-ending struggle to survive? What type of animal will man become then? By following Money (the central character in Let it Rain) through the streets of his hood, southern streets which once blossomed with hospitality; we will see how the scourge of drugs and the lure of fast cars, and even faster women, transformed what was an environment of southern hospitality into an environment of southern hell. We will see how Money and his three best friends Boe, Black and Snake deal with the challenges of friendship, loyalty, love, and responsibility. We will watch while the desire to escape their chaotic environment transforms some from youngsters into men , while others are transformed into monsters. What would you do to gain and keep a Colombian drug connection that promised to make you richer than you had ever imagined? Would you betray your friends and loved ones? Ask yourself that question but don't try to answer it until after you have read Let it Rain: It's like Butter Baby.

Description : Set just after the Second World War, Sylvia is just blossoming into womanhood and feeling her feet in her chosen career. Karl is brought to these shores on a troopship as a German prisoner of war, and like the quarter of a million other men in a similar situation, he wants to return home. The British government decrees that this is not going to happen and that these men will be required to help put right the devastation wrought by the war in Britain and to learn what a catastrophe their leader caused. Slowly the men are set to work, many of them in agriculture, but fraternisation with the general public is forbidden. Karl’s work is with Harry who is a foreman on a local market garden and is also Sylvia’s father; Harry has an aversion to Karl’s race because of events during the First World War, which affected his childhood. Gradually, the POWs are allowed to meet with the general public, and Sylvia and Karl fall in love, but it is an uphill task to win Harry over, although they do have an ally in Peggy, Sylvia’s mother. Eventually, events turn around, and the outcome is a happy one. This book also goes into the way village life pans out in these times, how severe rationing affects events, and how class distinction is still very apparent.
