Description : My storm chasing/interest in photography began back around the time my daughter was born (2008) and I started chasing storms about 7 years ago. It's hard to describe why I'm drawn to weather and storms, it's just what I've known my whole life. When I was little I would watch storms with my dad on the patio and grew up learning about them. It wasn't until later in life that I really got interested in storm photography and started learning more about it and things exploded from there. After my daughter was born I started my journey into portrait photography and eventually weddings, of which I shoot about 30 a year. But at the same time, I was getting into storm photography as well. We sold our entire DVD collection to help pay for a Canon Rebel, my first DSLR. From there things grew into chasing storms further and further from home, more and more miles, and even progressed into chasing tornadoes on the plains.

Description : The beauty of the sky is beyond comprehension. Never the same twice, it makes for unique images that depict a fleeting moment in time. In this book, David Mayhew strives to show the full array of Mother Nature's moods from the color palette and limitless textures that are conjured up. Forecasting for skies, night or day, is as much an art as a science since weather is a living ecosystem, forever evolving. Adapting to its whim, David drifts wherever the wind carries him, feeling out the best light in order to capture an image that ideally depicts sensational displays of beauty. Mayhew's photographs show the dramatic skies of tornadic storms and severe weather, the serenity of a sunset, the fascination of unique formations clouds can conjure up, and the mystery of the mesmerizing northern lights. If the purpose of art is to create an emotional response in the viewer, then surely readers will see why the skies are his muse.
