Mary Pols had always wanted children, but Mr Right had never come along. Then one day she met a guy. Cute. Much younger. Definitely unsuitable. But she went home with him anyway. What was the worst that could happen? Well, nine months later she was going to find out... As time unfolds, Mary's problems seem to grow as rapidly as her bump. Money. Childcare. How to tell her large, respectable family (especially her dad). Above all, what is she to do about the baby's father? He's sexy but hopeless - almost as much of a boy as her baby-to-be. Accidentally on Purpose is a funny, heartwarming true story about becoming a mother, finding happiness in the unexpected and compromising in the name of love.

Accidentally on Purpose Book Excerpt:

This catalogue has been published in conjunction with the exhibition: Accidentally on Purpose: Improvisation in African Textiles and African-American Quilts, presented at the Figge Art Museum, Davenport, Iowa from November 18, 2006 to February 11, 2007. Accidentally on Purpose presents 129 African textiles and improvisational African-American quilts by 61 quilters. These quilts differ from standard-traditional quilts in their use of approximate measurement, flexible patterns, bold colors, strong contrast, multiple patterns, shifts in scale, scrap applique, and construction techniques similar to those used in West and Central African textiles. The exhibition and catalogue explore the relationship between these transatlantic traditions. Accidentally on Purpose celebrates the sophistication, vivacity, and significance of improvisational African-American quilts, both as artistic achievements and as expressions of African-American culture.

The Robert Frost Encyclopedia Book Excerpt:

Often thought of as the quintessential poet of New England, Robert Frost is one of the most widely read American poets of the 20th century. But in spite of his ties to New England, he was born in San Francisco; he published his first book of poetry in England rather than the United States; he matured as a poet during his years abroad; and upon his return to America, he sometimes taught at the University of Michigan and spent many of his winters in Florida. This reference book provides hundreds of alphabetically arranged entries on Frost's poems and illuminates the complexities of his life and writings. Entries are written by expert contributors and conclude with brief citations of additional sources of information. The volume includes a chronology and closes with a bibliography of major studies.

The title doesn't say it all. What it does is attempt to lay open life's experiences over the past 50+ years. In this, you will find instances of love gone good and love gone bad. You will learn of peoples and places many times like people and places you already know. As I journey back through these past experiences, I hope some of you will feel to join and relive with me in these forages. Others I hope will see themselves and in so doing, will avoid pitfalls which I have crossed over, pains which I have endured and pleasures and loves which were my rewards. Love's Refuge in truth, if you read the table of contents, it will also help you to understand the frame of minds at the different times that these words were put together.

The Accidental Footballer Book Excerpt:

*** THE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER 'A heroic outsider - a pleasure to read.' - The Guardian 'A fulsome evocation of football before the Premier League.' - The i 'Such a good storyteller...joyous.' - Financial Times 'Honest, raw, revealing and very funny. How to live a life and career to the full. Insightful book about the most successful outsider inside football ever...' - Henry Winter, Chief Football Writer, The Times 'Pat is a wonderful one-off...and this is the story of why that is.' - John Murray, Chief Sports Correspondent, BBC Radio 5 Live 'Unusually vibrant and elegant with heroic doses of humour, insight and self-effacement, this is an absolute must-read for the football connoisseur.' - Omid Djalili 'The biggest influence of my professional career both on and off the pitch.' - Graeme Le Saux 'I grew up captivated by Pat Nevin the player. As a man he taught me even more about the beauty of the game. One of football's great mavericks, and Chelsea's greatest players. And he can spin a mean tune too.' - Sam Matterface 'I used to walk miles to see Pat Nevin play football and I'd do the same now to read his thoughts. Always challenging, always entertaining.' - Lord Sebastian Coe 'A refreshingly honest and thought-provoking autobiography. As deftly delivered as some of Pat's ball skills in his 1980's heyday.' - ToffeeWeb Pat Nevin never wanted to be a professional footballer. His future was clear, he'd become a teacher like his brothers. There was only one problem with this - Pat was far too good to avoid attention. Raised in Glasgow's East End, Pat loved the game, playing for hours and obsessively following Celtic. But as he grew up, he also loved Joy Division, wearing his Indie 'gloom boom' coat and going on marches - hardly typical footballer behaviour! Placed firmly in the 80s and 90s, before the advent of the Premier League, and often with racism and violence present, Pat Nevin writes with honesty, insight and wry humour. We are transported vividly to Chelsea and Everton, and colourfully diverted by John Peel, Morrissey and nights out at the Hacienda. The Accidental Footballer is a different kind of football memoir. Capturing all the joys of professional football as well as its contradictions and conflicts, it's about being defined by your actions, not your job, and is the perfect reminder of how life can throw you the most extraordinary surprises, when you least expect it.

Accident Society Book Excerpt:

This book argues that language and literature actively produced chance in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries by categorizing injuries and losses as innocent of design. Automobile collisions and occupational injuries became "car accidents" and "industrial accidents." During the post-Civil War period of racial, ethnic, and class-based hostility, chance was an abstract enemy against which society might unite. By producing chance, novels by William Dean Howells, Stephen Crane, Anna Katharine Green, Edith Wharton, Theodore Dreiser, and James Cain documented and helped establish new modes of collective interdependence. Chance here is connected not with the competitive individualism of the Gilded Age, but with important progressive and social democratic reforms, including developments in insurance, which had long employed accident narratives to shape its own "mutual society." Accident Society reveals the extent to which American collectivity has depended—and continues to depend—on the literary production of chance.

Living Life on Purpose Book Excerpt:

Women's lives are more hectic today than ever; the demands of child rearing, work, ministry, and marriage can drain women of energy and enthusiasm. What they need is order; they need a plan for prioritizing what's important and sticking to it. Lysa TerKeurst has created Living Life on Purpose to answer this obvious need. It is a Bible study that helps women design a life plan based on seven main principles of the Proverbs 31 woman. Upon completion of this study, a woman will have goals to work toward, action steps to complete, and most importantly, a plan for living their lives on purpose . . . God's purpose.
