Description : "A personal day of prayer is a wonderful opportunity to find two things: renewed focus and clarity to our lives and renewed joy and peace in Christ. It comes to us as a gift in the midst of the challenges, opportunities and perplexities of our lives. As opportunity and gift, the day of prayer enables us to find spiritual and emotional space for an intentional encounter with Christ. Through this encounter we come to a renewed experience of the presence of the Spirit in our lives." This small booklet is intended to teach Christians how to spend a full day in the presence of Christ. Readers are given the opportunity to practise various spiritual disciplines and then to journal what God is speaking to them. Gordon T. Smith is president of Overseas Council Canada, which works with other Overseas Council affiliates to support and enable excellence in theological education in the developing world. Description : What do you do when faced with persistent physical hurdles? You may do your best to follow medical instructions and take your prescribed medications, expecting to get better. But what do you do when medication can only do so much? Life is made of unequal struggles, and author Josephine Ng certainly had her share. In No Longer Alone through the Valley, she describes more than forty years of health problems. With few resources and opportunities, her options were scarce, and her ideals often collided with unfulfilled expectations. She lost motivation, abandoned her dreams, and became frustrated with recurring obstacles. But finally, she found solace, acceptance, and identity—in the Bible. Men and women of the Bible grapple with failures and future goals. Ng found encouragement in their stories and their strength, and she shows how you can, too. Although Ng continues to wrestle with challenges and adjustments to life’s unpredictable changes remain in her life, she is no longer alone in dealing with those problems. No Longer Alone through the Valley seeks to help you find Jesus’ gifts to guide you through your challenges, whatever they might be. All you have to do is ask.
Description : Historians and theologians have long recognized that at the heart of the sixteenth-century Protestant Reformation were five declarations, often referred to as the ‘solas’: sola scriptura, solus Christus, sola gratia, sola fide, and soli Deo gloria. These five statements summarize much of what the Reformation was about, and they distinguish Protestantism from other expressions of the Christian faith. Protestants place ultimate and final authority in the Scriptures, acknowledge the work of Christ alone as sufficient for redemption, recognize that salvation is by grace alone through faith alone, and seek to do all things for God’s glory. In God’s Glory Alone—The Majestic Heart of Christian Faith and Life, renowned scholar David VanDrunen looks at the historical and biblical roots of the idea that all glory belongs to God alone. He examines the development of this theme in the Reformation, in subsequent Reformed theology and confessions, and in contemporary theologians who continue to be inspired by the conviction that all glory belongs to God. Then he turns to the biblical story of God's glory, beginning with the pillar of cloud and fire revealed to Israel, continuing through the incarnation, death, and exaltation of the Lord Jesus Christ, and culminating in Christ's Second Coming and the glorification of his people. In light of these wonderful biblical themes he concludes by addressing several of today's great cultural challenges and temptations—such as distraction and narcissism—and reflecting on how commitment to God's glory alone fortifies us to live godly lives in this present evil age.
Description : The Sword of the Spirit demonstrates a very easy method for memorizing scripture while enabling a deeper understanding of His Word. It will change you. You will establish a secure and solid foundation in Christ. You will become spiritually stronger as you face different challenges throughout life in your walk with the Lord. You will be set free from long-term sin, habits, and attitudes that have weighed you down and affected your overall Christian experience. You will develop a new way of thinking and discover that old ways are becoming a thing of the past. You will experience victory rather than defeat. You will move on to maturity more easily. A twenty-year-old has reached adulthood, but is not as mature as his father. The young adult should not be thinking or acting like a child that is five, ten, or thirteen years old. Nothing of those ages should influence his maturity level, or he will have difficulty making it in lifeand he will know stress very well. The same applies to us as Christians if we are not actively forsaking old ways and developing new ways. Topics include forgiveness, prayer, faith, resisting temptation, freedom from sin habits, peace, handling trials, renewing your mind, going forward, and allowing God to live through youjust to name a few of the very basic essentials for a solid platform in Christ. These scriptures will set you free from unnecessary burdens of self that hinder your moving forward in victory. As you memorize and meditate on these scriptures, you will be set free from years of emotional baggage that guide your feelings, thoughts, reactions, and decisions. You are renewing your mind and being transformed. It is what takes place in you by the working of the Holy Spirit, God Himself, as you memorize His Worda genuine new you! Memorizing the Bible is such a daunting task, that many people relegate it to the extremely spiritual and lose all hope of ever applying this wonderful tool to their own life. I so appreciate the humility and wisdom of Tena Marchand and this amazing tool for the believer. Without a doubt, these concepts and devotionals will help you accomplish this wonderful aspect of our faith. David had a revelation of this truth when he wrote, I have stored up Your word in my heart, that I might not sin against You (Psalms 119:11). Be blessed. Description : Historians and theologians alike have long recognized that at the heart of the sixteenth-century Protestant Reformation were five declarations (or “solas”) that distinguished the movement from other expressions of the Christian faith. Five hundred years later, we live in a different time with fresh challenges to our faith. Yet these rallying cries of the Reformation continue to speak to us, addressing a wide range of contemporary issues. The Five Solas series will help you understand the historical and biblical context of the five solas and how to live out the relevance of Reformation theology today. In God’s Word Alone—The Authority of Scripture, scholar and pastor Matthew Barrett looks at the historical and biblical roots of the doctrine that Scripture alone is the final and decisive authority for God’s people. He examines the development of this theme in the Reformation and traces the crisis that followed resulting in a shift away from the authority of Scripture. Barrett shows that we need to recover a robust doctrine of Scripture’s authority in the face of today’s challenges and why a solid doctrinal foundation built on God’s Word is the best hope for the future of the church.
Description : A collection of poems written over a ten year span extracting emotion and experience from the helping field. Reflections on relationships, pain, death, love, and joy. These poems will delight the mind and the rouse heart. From the author:A Poetry Book In 2000 I spent a month living at an inner-city missions facility in Queens NY. Throughout this time Monday through Friday a group of us went throughout Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx giving food, faith, and hope to the impoverished hopeless masses in New York City. Some experiences I will never forget is playing cards with those on deaths door at the AIDS hospital, preaching in Mexican Town with a translator, taking sandwiches to those on the streets at midnight, the countless soup kitchens and coffee houses and making hundreds of children laugh as a clown on the streets in the Bronx. Coming back to Michigan shortly thereafter, I enrolled in college and needed an income. Moved by the hand of God, in spirit, I searched online for any job openings. I simply typed in ‘youth” in the search. I went for the interview, got hired, and got trained as an Intervention Counselor in the city of Mount Clemens. This began my journey in the helping field. The field where you meet the hopeless, hurting; those people whom the devil has tried his best to destroy physically, emotional, spiritually, people the devil has attempted to devalue and dehumanize. You meet them in hopes of undoing the devils work, in hopes of repairing, restoring, showing them their value, loving, and caring for those who have no one else; no one. Over these past years, beginning in New York, I began to write poetry, both reflecting on situations, deflecting pain, empathizing with the hurt, and examining these effects on my life. Now these poems are together in an e-book recently published in the Kindle store.
