Description : This volume contains survey papers on mathematical finance based on some courses given at the ""Lluis Santalo"" Summer School of the Real Sociedad Matematica Espanola, held in July 2007 at the Universidad Internacional Menendez Pelayo, Santander (Spain). The primary topics are pathwise approximations of stochastic differential equations, Hedge funds, and credit derivatives. The paper by L. Seco and F. Chen provides a systematic survey of hedge funds from a rigorous mathematical point of view. The related paper by M. Escobar, S. Kramer, F. Scheibl, L. Seco and R. Zagst introduces a new theoretical framework for the pricing of hedge funds' equity, inspired by the framework of Black and Cox for the valuation of company equity as a call option. A general framework for deriving high order, stable and tractable path-wise approximations of Stratonovich stochastic differential equations as applied to finance is the subject of the paper of L. G. Gyurko and T. Lyons. The paper by R. Zagst and M. Scherer is a short course on the different approaches used for pricing, hedging and risk management of credit derivatives. Researchers and practitioners in mathematical finance will find in this book a collection of excellent, up-to-date and mathematically rigorous presentations of some of the most advanced techniques for pricing and risk management. A co-publication of the AMS and Real Sociedad Matematica Espanola (RSME). Table of Contents: M. Escobar, S. Kramer, F. Scheibl, L.A. Seco, and R. Zagst -- Hedge funds as knock-out options; L. G. Gyurko and T. Lyons -- Rough paths based numerical algorithms in computational finance; L. A. Seco and F. Chen -- Hedge funds; R. Zagst and M. Scherer -- Modeling and pricing credit derivatives. Description : This volume is an outgrowth of the Sixth Workshop on Lie Theory and Geometry, held in the province of Cordoba, Argentina in November 2007. The representation theory and structure theory of Lie groups play a pervasive role throughout mathematics and physics. Lie groups are tightly intertwined with geometry and each stimulates developments in the other. The aim of this volume is to bring to a larger audience the mutually beneficial interaction between Lie theorists and geometers that animated the workshop. Two prominent themes of the representation theoretic articles are Gelfand pairs and the representation theory of real reductive Lie groups. Among the more geometric articles are an exposition of major recent developments on noncompact homogeneous Einstein manifolds and aspects of inverse spectral geometry presented in settings accessible to readers new to the area.

Description : This volume originated from the International Congress ``ULTRAMATH: Applications of Ultrafilters and Ultraproducts in Mathematics'', which was held in Pisa, Italy, from June 1-7, 2008. The volume aims to present the state-of-the-art of applications in the whole spectrum of mathematics which are grounded on the use of ultrafilters and ultraproducts. It contains two general surveys on ultrafilters in set theory and on the ultraproduct construction, as well as papers that cover additive and combinatorial number theory, nonstandard methods and stochastic differential equations, measure theory, dynamics, Ramsey theory, algebra in the space of ultrafilters, and large cardinals. The papers are intended to be accessible and interesting for mathematicians who are not experts on ultrafilters and ultraproducts. Greater prominence has been given to results that can be formulated and presented in non-special terms and be, in principle, understandable by any mathematician, and to those results that connect different areas of mathematics, revealing new facets of known important topics.

Description : Developmental biology and tumour growth are two important areas of current research where mathematics increasingly provides powerful new techniques and insights. The unfolding complexity of living structures from egg to embryo gives rise to a number of difficult quantitative problems that are ripe for mathematical models and analysis. Understanding this early development process involves the study of pattern formation, which mathematicians view through the lens of dynamical systems. This book addresses several issues in developmental biology, including Notch signalling pathway integration and mesenchymal compartment formation. Tumour growth is one of the primary challenges of cancer research. Its study requires interdisciplinary approaches involving the close collaboration of mathematicians, biologists and physicians. The summer school addressed angiogenesis, modelling issues arising in radiotherapy, and tumour growth viewed from the individual cell and the relation to a multiphase-fluid flow picture of that process. This book is suitable for researchers, graduate students, and advanced undergraduates interested in mathematical methods of developmental biology or tumour growth.

Description : For thirty years, the biennial international conference AGC T (Arithmetic, Geometry, Cryptography, and Coding Theory) has brought researchers to Marseille to build connections between arithmetic geometry and its applications, originally highlighting coding theory but more recently including cryptography and other areas as well. This volume contains the proceedings of the 16th international conference, held from June 19–23, 2017. The papers are original research articles covering a large range of topics, including weight enumerators for codes, function field analogs of the Brauer–Siegel theorem, the computation of cohomological invariants of curves, the trace distributions of algebraic groups, and applications of the computation of zeta functions of curves. Despite the varied topics, the papers share a common thread: the beautiful interplay between abstract theory and explicit results.

Description : The papers in this volume were presented at the AMS-IMS-SIAM Joint Summer Research Conference on Symplectic Topology and Measure Preserving Dynamical Systems held in Snowbird, Utah in July 2007. The aim of the conference was to bring together specialists of symplectic topology and of measure preserving dynamics to try to connect these two subjects. One of the motivating conjectures at the interface of these two fields is the question of whether the group of area preserving homeomorphisms of the 2-disc is or is not simple. For diffeomorphisms it was known that the kernel of the Calabi invariant is a normal proper subgroup, so the group of area preserving diffeomorphisms is not simple. Most articles are related to understanding these and related questions in the framework of modern symplectic topology.

Description : The articles in this volume mainly grew out of talks given at a Conference held at UCLA in January 2008, which honored V. S. Varadarajan on his 70th birthday. The main theme of the Conference was symmetry in mathematics and physics, areas of mathematics and mathematical physics in which Varadarajan has made significant contributions during the past 50 years. Very early in his career he also worked and made significant contributions in the areas of probability and the foundations of quantum mechanics. Topics covered by the articles in this volume are probability, quantum mechanics, symmetry (broadly interpreted in mathematics and physics), finite and infinite dimensional Lie groups and Lie algebras and their representations, super Lie groups and supergeometry (relatively new but active and important fields at the interface between mathematics and physics), and supersymmetry. The latter topic takes on a special importance since one of the first experiments at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN will be a test of whether supersymmetry exists in the world of elementary particles. A reprint of an exposition of supersymmetry by one of its founders, B. Zumino, appears in this volume.
