Description : How should we relate to 'others' - those within a particular tradition, those of different traditions, and those who are oppressed? In the light of these anxieties, and building on the work of Andrew Shanks, this book offers a vision of Christ as 'the Shaken One', rooted in community with others. Shaped through dialogue with the theologies of John Hick and Lesslie Newbigin, Adams urges Christian communities to attend more deeply to the demands of ecumenical, dialogical and political theologies, to embody an ever greater 'solidarity of others' - a quality of community better demonstrating Christlike 'other-regard'.

Description : Challenging the claim that no religion can be superior to another and the popular move to unite all religions, Lutzer explains that religion is not a wheel whose varied religions are spokes that ultimately lead to the same peace and harmony at the core. As the author confronts these myths, he brings readers face-to-face with Jesus Christ--our only intercessor.

Description : Beginning with his text from Acts 4:12, “Neither is there salvation in any other…” Dr. Tuckney demonstrates that there is no salvation but by Christ, who is the only Savior. He shows this from God’s design that there is no name under heaven given to us by which we must be saved. Nor is there any temporal, much less any spiritual and eternal salvation other than which is found by way of covenant through Jesus Christ. In opposition to this, Tuckney takes to task those in his day (and ours) who say that salvation may be found outside the Gospel, which includes other religious views and philosophical arguments. Then, Dr. Tuckney examines the all-important question about those who might be saved apart from a true knowledge of the Gospel. These include those in heathen nations who remain in darkness and never hear the word of God, infants who die in infancy, and those mentally handicapped who have no ability to understand the Gospel. What does God do with such people? Tuckney examines this point by point with scholarly precision and a biblical answer. This is not a scan or facsimile, has been updated in modern English for easy reading and has an active table of contents for electronic versions.

Description : How do religious traditions create strangers and neighbors? How do they construct otherness? Or, instead, work to overcome it? In this exciting collection of interdisciplinary essays, scholars and activists from various traditions explore these questions. Through legal and media studies, they reveal how we see religious others. They show that Jewish, Christian, Islamic, and Sikh texts frame others in open-ended ways. Conflict resolution experts and Hindu teachers, they explain, draw on a shared positive psychology. Jewish mystics and Christian contemplatives use powerful tools of compassionate perception. Finally, the authors explain how Christian theology can help teach respectful views of difference. They are not afraid to discuss how religious groups have alienated one another. But, together, they choose to draw positive lessons about future cooperation.

Description : You can't be friends with God if the God you believe in doesn't really exist. You can't depend on God if your God is a figment of your imagination. In a world full of gods, how do you know Jesus is real? You have probably heard things like: All religions lead to the same God. All faiths teach the same things. It doesn't matter what you believe-just that you believe sincerely. But Jesus said that: He alone is the way to God. He alone shows us the truth of who God is. He alone gives us life close to God. In this youth edition of Jesus Among Other Gods, Ravi Zacharias gives solid evidence as to why we should choose Jesus Christ as THE God among all other gods. Zacharias contrasts the truth of Jesus with the founders of Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism, providing strong descriptions of each faith and solid defenses for the cause of Christ. In addition to the religion comparisons, the book answers questions such as: "What about all the hypocrites at church?" "How scientific is science?" "How can you best share what you believe?" and "Does the Bible teach reincarnation?" You can never be too young to learn how to defend your faith . . . and this book will tell you exactly how to do just that!

Description : The year begins with the season of Advent, when we think of the first coming of Jesus into the world and the way in which it was prepared for his coming. Then follows Christmas, the well-known and popular festival when we remember the Saviour’s birth to a Jewish lady, Mary. This is followed by the Epiphany, when the Lord was first shown to the non-Jewish people, the Gentiles. Quite a significant event for those not of the Jewish faith. It is the first recorded time that the Lord was shown to non-Jewish people (Gentiles), reminding us that he came for everyone. Things move on rapidly to Lent, and the Lord’s life, which leads up to his Crucifixion. Appropriately, the solemnity of Lent and Holy Week is followed by the joyful season of Easter, when we celebrate the Resurrection of Our Lord. Forty days on, and we celebrate the Ascension of Our Lord. It is not long after the Ascension that the church celebrates Pentecost (or Whitsun), when the Holy Spirit of God descended on the church and kick-started it into action—action that continues to this day! As you may know, the rest of the year, up until Advent, is taken up by the season of Trinity, with much teaching and many commemorations. I hope that you enjoy this tour through the Christian year and that it deepens and makes more relevant your practice of faith in Christ Crucified, Risen, and Ascended.

Description : The widely read author and philosopher Peter Kreeft presents a unique book that focuses on the important beliefs that Catholics and Protestants share in common. He says this book is inspired by Christ's high priestly prayer in the Gospel of John "that they may be one," and by St. John Paul II's ecumenical encyclical, Ut Unum Sint, which is also based on Christ's prayer for unity. While there are still significant differences, Kreeft says that there has been a radical step of agreement on the single most important issue, justification. Kreeft says the style of the book is that of Pascal, Nietzsche, Solomon, and Jesus: short answers, single points to ponder rather than long strings of argument. It is direct, simple, and confrontational, but vertically rather than horizontally, "directing arrows not against each other (Protestant or Catholic) but against our own hearts and minds and wills." It is timely because, as Pope St. John Paul II said, this next millennium is destined to be the millennium of Christian reunification as the first millennium was that of Christian unity, and the second one of Christian disunity. Above all, Kreeft says that this work is simple, not easy, or obvious, but condensed. It – like all of reality – is Christocentric. Its purpose is to be "like an Australian sheep dog, herding and hectoring Christ's separated sheep back to His face. For that is the only way they can ever return back to each other."

Description : "What are Christians to make of their mission in an pluralistic world?" asks Paul F. Knitter, author of the landmark work in interfaith dialogue No Other Name? As a recognized scholar and participant in interfaith dialogue, Knitter is in a unique position to explore the key concept of what Christian mission must entail in a world that will remain a world of many religious faiths for the foreseeable future. From the first chapter of Jesus and the Other Names, which recounts his own theological and dialogical odyssey, Knitter constructs what he calls a "correlational, globally-responsible theology of religions" as a necessary correction to traditional pluralist and exclusivist approaches. By anticipating and addressing his critics - both conservative and liberal - Knitter makes a powerful argument for a reconstruction of mission faithful to the Christian imperative and dynamically attuned to the plurality of the world. Jesus and the Other Names will give pause to those who believe Christian mission can be carried on as it was in the modern era. Sure to inspire debate as well as dialogue it offers a more humble, but perhaps more "Christic", postmodern approach to mission in the new millennium that has little to do with earthly glory and nothing to do with the sense of cultural superiority that has so often - and often so tragicallyaccompanied modern missionary movements. Theologians, missiologists, Christian historians, can all benefit from its thoughtful and timely message.

Description : Nietzsche's late works are brilliant and uncompromising, and stand as monuments to his lucidity, rigor, and style. This volume combines, for the first time in English, five of these works: The Antichrist, Ecce Homo, Twilight of the Idols, Nietzsche contra Wagner, and The Case of Wagner. Nietzsche takes on some of his greatest adversaries in these works: traditional religion, contemporary culture, and above all, his one-time hero, Richard Wagner. His writing is simultaneously critical and creative, revealing his alternative philosophical vision, which, after more than a hundred years, still retains its audacious originality.
