Description : We tend to look to the New Testament to tell us about Jesus, yet it was the Old Testament about which Jesus said, “the Scriptures point to me!” In The One Year Book of Discovering Jesus in the Old Testament, Bible teacher Nancy Guthrie takes readers from Genesis through Malachi, shining the light of Christ on the promise of a descendent who will put an end to the curse of sin; the story of a father who offers up his son as a sacrifice; the symbol of a temple where people can meet with God; the prophecy of a servant who will suffer; the person of a king who will rule with righteousness—and so much more. Day by day throughout the year, readers will see the beauty of Christ in fresh new ways, creating a deeper understanding and appreciation for who Jesus is and what he accomplished through his Cross and Resurrection.

Description : We must recover the foundation and root of our faith in order to have an accurate understanding of God's purpose for Israel as well as His purpose for the Church. "Jesus Was Not A Christian" was written to help recover that most-important foundation. An insufficient grasp of this crucial fact will not only marginalize Jesus' mission while on earth but will also marginalize our call as the Church to provoke Israel to jealousy. Jesus did not come to earth and shed His blood to start a new religion called Christianity; He came to fulfill the Scriptures as the Messiah of Israel and the Savior of the world.

Description : As a Chinese woman, a feminist theologian, and a biblical scholar, Pui-lan Kwok brings a new perspective and voice to the task of hermeneutics. Her multidimensional reading of the Bible draws on a tradition much older than that of the West while it simultaneously incorporates the insights of contemporary feminist and Third World theologies. Seeing herself as "wanderer" between the worlds of East and West, Pui-lan Kwok draws on the work of contemporary biblical scholars, as well as the millennia-old commentaries on the Book of Change, the Dao de Jing, and the Bhagavad Gita. Her creativity and imagination come into play as she gradually, inseparably links reader, text, and context. The first three chapters locate the context from which she approaches the Bible as an Asian woman. Pui-lan considers Asian traditions as well as the social biography of Asian peoples and discusses the complex issues of using the Bible in feminist theology. Chapters Four and Five approach the unique Asian context with its long traditions of orality and exegesis of ancient scriptures. Chapter Six analyzes the challenges of Asian critics to western interpretations of scripture and raises sharp issues of colonial oppression. Finally, Discovering the Bible in the Non-Biblical World shows how the multiple oppressions of women provide a context for rediscovering the Bible's liberating message. "Must reading for anyone engaged in biblical studies, cross-cultural education and feminist theology. I highly recommend this richly instructive and powerful book."ùElisabeth Schassler Fiorenza Harvard Divinity School "An important addition to the fast-growing literature on Asian biblical discourse."ùR.S. Sugirtharajah University of Birmingham "A significant contribution to the hermeneutical conversation arising from the global context of reading of the Bible."ùSharon H. Description : Charles Spurgeon once said that just as every road in England leads to London, so every text in Scripture contains a path to Christ. But there's still a chance of going the wrong way, blazing misleading trails where none previously existed. How can we be sure that we're reading our road map correctly? Dennis Johnson shows us that there are established routes we can trust. Guiding us along the network of trails in the Old and New Testaments, he points to the signs and markers that help us to identify roads to Christ. He surveys the Bible's sweeping story that makes up the lay of the land and explores different landmarks-the central motifs in Scripture that give us our bearings as we seek out Jesus. Our sermons, Bible studies, and personal devotions will be transformed as we navigate Scripture in light of its central purpose: to draw us in faith and love to our Prophet, Priest, and King. Description : Discovering the 3EEE Lifestyle looks at how to achieve Jesus Christ's command to his church to make disciples. To accomplish this task, you must focus on three primary areas: exalt the Savior, equip the saints, and evangelize the sinner. These are practical steps to help us effectively make disciples. Being a disciple is God's plan for every Christian. Discovering the 3EEE lifestyle begins with "exalting the Savior through worship." Worship says it's not about me. It's not about my wants or desires. It's not about my ambitions or plans. It's about me giving everything up for God. Worship is submission. Submission to Christ is the foundation of our relationship with him and the core of true worship. Discovering the 3EEE lifestyle continues with "equipping the saints through the Word." The task of equipping is essentially that of getting people ready to live the Christian life and to do ministry in the world. The operative phrase is found in Ephesians 4:12, to "Equip the saints for the work of ministry." The result of being "equipped" is Christlikeness. The final step in discovering the 3EEE lifestyle is "evangelizing the sinner through witnessing." It has been noted that most Christians never share their faith with nonbelievers or have never led anyone to faith in Jesus Christ. A disciple is taught that it is his or her duty to witness for Jesus Christ. Every disciple is commanded to make disciples by witnessing, mark them by baptism, and mature them by teaching them all the things that Jesus Christ commanded us. Discovering the 3EEE Lifestyle requires a transformation of life. This means more than just casual attendance at worship or Bible study. It is a process that begins when the believer "deny self, take up the cross daily, and follow Christ." But it calls for establishing a daily relationship with Jesus through Bible study, prayer, and practicing spiritual disciplines.
