Description : Seminar paper from the year 2018 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Region: Near East, Near Orient, grade: 1,3, University of Hamburg (Fakultät für Wirtschafts- und Sozialwissenschaften), course: The Middle East in International Relations, language: English, abstract: The status of Jerusalem has always been a very sensitive, symbolic and central issue regarding the Arab-Israeli conflict. This leads to the central question of this essay: How can the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel by the Trump administration be explained through either a structural realist or constructivist approach? For Palestinians and Israelis, for Muslims, Christians and Jews around the world, Jerusalem is an anchor of modern identity. The Israelis claim it as the capital of their nation, the Palestinians want it to be the center of their hoped-for future state. The issue has gained a critical urgency and relevance recently, because on December 6, 2017 US-President Donald J. Trump announced the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. By reversing seven decades of US neutrality and appeasement policy in this matter, his decision caused a lot of frustration among the Arabic community and states around the world. The UN General Assembly called the status of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital "null and void" - a pretty extraordinary situation of disagreement between the UN and the United States (Res. ES-10/L.22 2017). This essay will establish a theoretical framework, by comparing the two schools of thought within the rational-constructivist debate. Subsequently, both theories will be applied on the present case of US foreign policy, after having ensured contextual understanding by going through essential historical aspects of US-Israeli relations and the effects of Trump’s decision.

Description : INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER Why President Trump has left us with no choice but to remove him from office, as explained by celebrated Supreme Court lawyer and former Acting Solicitor General Neal Katyal. No one is above the law. This belief is as American as freedom of speech and turkey on Thanksgiving—held sacred by Democrats and Republicans alike. But as celebrated Supreme Court lawyer and former Acting Solicitor General Neal Katyal argues in Impeach, if President Trump is not held accountable for repeatedly asking foreign powers to interfere in the 2020 presidential election, this could very well mark the end of our democracy. To quote President George Washington’s Farewell Address: “Foreign influence is one of the most baneful foes of republican government.” Impeachment should always be our last resort, explains Katyal, but our founders, our principles, and our Constitution leave us with no choice but to impeach President Trump—before it’s too late.

Description : Based on extensive inside sources, including exclusive interviews with the President and Vice President, The Faith of Donald J. Trump explores his rarely discussed, but deeply important, religious beliefs and relationships with leading Evangelicals. The Chief Political Correspondent for the Christian Broadcasting Network and the "Jesus in the Public Square" columnist for the Washington Times explore the rarely discussed, but deeply important, religious beliefs and worldview of Donald J. Trump and his advisors. Donald J. Trump was raised as a Presbyterian and has praised both Christianity and the primacy of the Bible. In the Oval Office, he has surrounded himself with close advisors who share his deep faith. In this deeply reported book, David Brody and Scott Lamb draw on unparalleled access to the White House to explain President Trump’s connection to the Christian faith, the evangelical right, the prosperity gospel, and the pressing moral and ethical issues of our day. In part, the authors argue, President Trump won over evangelicals not by pandering to them, but by supporting them and all their most important issues without pretending to be something he’s not. Though the forty-fifth president is far from the perfect vessel—he has been married three times—his supporters argue that Donald Trump may be just what America needs. This book reveals how he has surrounded himself with believers who think he is the one guiding figure who can return us to the traditional values—hard work, discipline, duty, respect, and faith—that have long been the foundation of American life, and truly make America great again in all ways.

Description : Is Trump our contemporary Berlusconi? In 2015, Frank Bruni coined the term ‘Trumpusconi’ when the media noticed some similarities between the then US presidential candidate Donald Trump and Italy’s former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. At that time, while many Italians joked about Trump as a déjà-vu, scholars began to analyse these two political ‘outsiders’ in an attempt to imagine Trump’s probable presidency by studying Berlusconi’s career. Regardless of any political view, it is against this background that this work analyses these two political figures through discourse analysis, to understand whether their similarities go beyond their personality traits and lifestyles. The work is divided into two sections: the first part provides some information on Berlusconi and Trump’s socio-cultural origins and educational backgrounds, their first steps in their real-estate careers, their progression into the world of media and politics, and their relationships with women. The second part of the study proposes a discourse analysis performed on a corpus of speeches held by each politician at the beginning of their political career, in order to understand whether their personalities and lifestyles are reflected in their idiolects. The book partially confirms the media’s ideas about the ‘Trumpusconi’ phenomenon, acknowledging some similarities between the two moguls. However, it also shows that Berlusconi and Trump belong to two different eras: even if Berlusconi’s lifestyle, language, scandals, and politics will continue to negatively and positively influence Italy for many years to come, the era of social media is leading the world towards models that differ from those of his time. Western politics is becoming ever more similar to a form of infotainment, and Trump is the perfect incarnation of this evolution. Only time will reveal his long-term legacy.

Description : Why did so many traditionally “blue” communities break for Donald Trump in 2016? Will they do so again in 2020? Will they become Republican strongholds? Looking for answers, Muravchik and Shields lived in three such “flipped” blue communities, finding that these voters still like the Democratic Party, but it’s not the party many of this book’s readers will recognize. In these communities, some of the most beloved and longest-serving Democratic leaders are themselves Trumpian—grandiose, combative, thin-skinned, nepotistic. Indifferent to ideology, they promise to take care of “their people” by cutting deals—and corners if needed. Stressing loyalty, they often turn to family to fill critical political roles. Trump strikes a familiar figure to these communities, resembling an old-style Democratic boss. Although Trump’s Democrats have often been pictured as racists, Muravchik and Shields find that their primary political allegiances are to their town or county—not racial identity. They will spend an extra dollar to patronize local businesses, and they think local jobs should go to their neighbors, not “foreigners” from neighboring counties—who are just as likely to be white and native-born. When these citizens turn their attention to the nation and their place in it, their thinking is informed by their sense of belonging in their town. Thus, “America first” nationalism is largely localism writ large. The good news for Democrats is that the appeal of Trump does not yet extend to the rest of the GOP. The Democratic Party can reclaim its historic place as the home of working and lower-middle-class Americans. The first step is to gain better understanding of Trump’s Democrats.

Description : When you continue to demonstrate that you are the "better" person they need a narrative to explain things. They sit there thinking, pondering, and wondering why? Todd Elliott Koger is the only person "who got it right" with a short amusingly interesting story about a real incident and person that he wrote in just 24-hours on the coldest evening in recent years. Mr. Koger explained during "forty days of publication" what was soon "proven true" and "confirmed correct" as per Attorney General William Barr''s "Summary of the Robert Mueller findings." On March 22, 2019, Mr. Koger''s publication was "censored." He received the following notification from Kindle Direct Publishing: "While reviewing the following books we found the title, cover image, descriptions and/or authors of the following book(s) are misleading to our customers: 1. Title: Доклад Роберта Мюллера: The Robert Mueller Report "Long and short of this anecdote provides answers."ASIN: B07NRW8RSQ 2. Title: Доклад Роберта Мюллера: The Robert Mueller Report - "The long and short of this anecdote provides answers." ISBN: 1796697710." Mr. Koger''s publication explained: "If Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election was widespread and included attempts to divide Americans by race to manipulate U.S. politics (Russian government''s Internet Research Agency, based in St. Petersburg using troll farms to urge African Americans to boycott the election), why did as few as 50,000 votes in just three states where he focused a "one-man" boycott activity decide the election?" Mr. Koger writes: "Maybe it is just a remarkable concurrence of events. (1) Serendipity that in North and West Philadelphia (Eastern Pennsylvania) where many of his emails were focused and Penn Hills (Western Pennsylvania) where he had capable supporters, and most of his "boots on the ground" activity every election that turnout fell 10 percent in these majority-black wards. (2) The happenstance that in Milwaukee, Wisconsin District 15 turnout was down 19.5% were Donald J. Trump used verbatim pretty much all of the language of his writings for the first speech "asking for the black vote." (3) And a "fluke" in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan where 75,000 "Motown" voters decided to stay home. Not only did Mr. Koger have a social media presence established with Wayne County, Mr. Trump "it appears" used almost verbatim all of his "talking points" shared for Mr. Trump''s visit to Great Faith Ministries." With his short anecdote Mr. Koger questions: "Does this better explain why the Mueller''s investigation appeared to have shifted away from collusion and became centered on WikiLeaks, DNC emails, Roger Stone?" Mr. Koger calls things a "Catastrophic political mess, like "Watergate." He says "Stupidity again at the highest level of American government with Congressional hearings, hundreds of pages of transcripts, sworn testimony, documentary evidence such as emails and text messages." Mr. Koger question "What is the reason for all this?" He says, "After Hillary Clinton''s defeat in 2016 the Democrats appears to have immediately attempted to explain away any possible correlation between the African American vote and Donald Trump''s victory." He added, "The Democrats were embarrassed that the black community stayed home rather than voting unleashing their talking heads to discount any organized strategy by the Trump campaign." Mr. Koger says, "America is no longer the envy of the world. News reporting is divided along the demographics of politics. Entertainment, theater, and social dialogue have become no more than propaganda. Biased based or misleading information used to promote or publicize a particular cause or point of view."

Description : If you follow the continuous daily press coverage - nobody seems to really understand the underlying explanation of Donald Trump's shocking rise to power in the 2016 presidential election. Here's the basic info: Mitch McConnell is the guy to watch, not Donald Trump. Trump and all of his clown circus are just a distraction. Yes, it's a Constitutional crisis, on many levels, but Trump is merely a distraction. The real guy to watch is Mitch McConnell, who engineered the derailment of Hillary Clinton's popular election victory by some three million votes. In many ways over the past eight years, including denial of Obama's moderate Supreme Court nominee in favor of a radical corporate henchman, and engineering the overthrow of Hillary Clinton's wide popular election victory, Mitch McConnell and his corporate owners have ensured that we never see health care reform - at any cost. Why? Because the corporations who own Mitch, and who run a national U.S. holocaust in corporate health care denial (laughingly called "health insurance"), steal a trillion dollars every year from our economy, and they do not want to lose it. Neither the corporations nor their political arm (the Corporate Party, laughingly called "republicans") could afford to allow Hillary to assume office as the popularly elected President of the United States. According to a landmark 2009 Harvard study, health care denial kills over 45,000 U.S. citizens a year. You could be next, or your child, your spouse, or other loved ones. Not only do Mitch McConnell's owners murder over 45,000 citizens a year (an ongoing U.S. national holocaust that nobody talks about, including the corporate press, which is not a free press but a fee press) but this same holocaust maims countless others through for-profit shortcutting, and they bankrupt millions of families when a major medical emergency strikes. We are the only modern industrialized nation where universal health care is not a fundamental human right for everyone. Health care must not continue to be a privilege of the wealthy, for whom our national holocaust is a source of vast blood money ($1 Trillion a year stolen from our GDP). It's all in this article. In this article, the author wastes as little time as possible talking about Donald Trump, and focuses on the real crime here: for the second time in a generation, corporate money and corruption has stolen a national election. Comparisons in history include the last days of the Roman republic (not empire). The Roman republic was a key source of modeling for the U.S. Framers of the Constitution in 1787. As one of history's many ironies, Rome was in the air in those days. English historian Edward Gibbon published his famous six-volume "The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire" starting in 1776 (the year the American colonies separated from England) and finishing in 1788, just as the U.S. Constitution was in ratification by the original thirteen states. The author discusses the broader history, but most importantly the ongoing implications of Reaganism, the corporate seizure of power in the United States, and the buffooning of the USA under Bush 43 and Trump-all for corporate benefit. We need to know this stuff so that we can vote every last Corporate Republican out of office and restore democracy before it's too late. Two stolen elections, amid a hail storm of lies, in sixteen years is the last wakeup call. This is intended as the first of a series (EX-NAX or Explanation Nation) delivering a totally different and cogent explanation of our divided, chaotic world. There is an explanation, nation, and here it is. Divisiveness is no accident, but a long-term, cynical strategy by the corporate owners and operators of our nation to weaken the government, and thereby destroy unions, health care, workplace safety, minority rights, and respect for law. Look for future installments of EX-NAX: Explanation Nation from John T. Cullen, published by Clocktower Books.

Description : "Deserves a place alongside George Orwell’s 'Politics and the English Language'. . . . one of the most important political books of this perilous summer."—The Washington Post "A must-read"—Salon "Highly recommended"—Jack Shafer, Politico Featured in "The Best New Books to Read This Summer" and "Lit Hub's Most Anticipated Books of 2020"—Literary Hub Historic levels of polarization, a disaffected and frustrated electorate, and widespread distrust of government, the news media, and traditional political leadership set the stage in 2016 for an unexpected, unlikely, and unprecedented presidential contest. Donald Trump’s campaign speeches and other rhetoric seemed on the surface to be simplistic, repetitive, and disorganized to many. As Demagogue for President shows, Trump’s campaign strategy was anything but simple. Political communication expert Jennifer Mercieca shows how the Trump campaign expertly used the common rhetorical techniques of a demagogue, a word with two contradictory definitions—“a leader who makes use of popular prejudices and false claims and promises in order to gain power” or “a leader championing the cause of the common people in ancient times” (Merriam-Webster, 2019). These strategies, in conjunction with post-rhetorical public relations techniques, were meant to appeal to a segment of an already distrustful electorate. It was an effective tactic. Mercieca analyzes rhetorical strategies such as argument ad hominem, argument ad baculum, argument ad populum, reification, paralipsis, and more to reveal a campaign that was morally repugnant to some but to others a brilliant appeal to American exceptionalism. By all accounts, it fundamentally changed the discourse of the American public sphere.

Description : THE NUMBER ONE BESTSELLER * UPDATED WITH NEW REPORTING * 'It's all here in this stunning first draft of the history of the presidency of Donald Trump' Sydney Morning Herald 'An icy, Iago-like glimpse of the emotional and moral nullity that may be the source of Trump's power' Observer 'A damning, well-reported, well-sourced and clearly written haymaker' Sunday Times Drawing on nearly three years of reporting, hundreds of hours of interviews and more than two hundred sources, including some of the most senior members of the administration, friends and first-hand witnesses who have never spoken before, Philip Rucker and Carol Leonnig take us inside some of the most controversial moments of Trump's presidency. They peer deeply into Trump's White House – at the aides pressured to lie to the public, the lawyers scrambling to clear up norm-breaking disasters, and the staffers whose careers have been reduced to ashes – to paint an unparalleled group portrait of an administration driven by self-preservation and paranoia. Rucker and Leonnig reveal Trump at his most unvarnished, showing the unhinged decision-making and incompetence that has floored officials and stunned foreign leaders. They portray unscripted calls with Vladimir Putin, steak dinners with Kim Jong-un, and calls with Theresa May so hostile that they left her aides shaken. They also take a hard look at Robert Mueller, Trump's greatest antagonist to date, and how his investigation slowly unravelled an administration whose universal value is loyalty – not to country, but to the president himself. Grippingly told, A Very Stable Genius is a behind-the-scenes account of Trump's vainglorious pursuit of power in his first term.

Description : The most unusual feature of Donald Trump's nationalist and populist campaign for the presidency of the USA was his obsessive use of Twitter. Like other social media, this form of communication has often been assumed to encourage the dissemination of liberal values and the circulation of facts. Trump's tweets, by contrast, formed a constant stream of provocations, insults, conspiracy theories, 'alternative facts' and outright lies. And they helped him win power. Peter Oborne, author of The Rise of Political Lying and Not The Chilcot Report, analyses Trump's incendiary mendacity in all its bewildering guises, and shows how this fusion of entertainment and cunningly crafted propaganda has destabilized the world's most powerful democracy.

Description : This definitive history of presidential lying reveals how our standards for truthfulness have eroded -- and why Trump's lies are especially dangerous. If there's one thing we know about Donald Trump, it's that he lies. But he's by no means the first president to do so. In Lying in State, Eric Alterman asks how we ended up with such a pathologically dishonest commander in chief, showing that, from early on, the United States has persistently expanded its power and hegemony on the basis of presidential lies. He also reveals the cumulative effect of this deception-each lie a president tells makes it more acceptable for subsequent presidents to lie-and the media's complicity in spreading misinformation. Donald Trump, then, represents not an aberration but the culmination of an age-old trend. Full of vivid historical examples and trenchant analysis, Lying in State is essential reading for anyone seeking to understand how we arrived in this age of alternative facts.

Description : Essay from the year 2016 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Culture and Applied Geography, grade: unbenotet, University of Wuppertal, language: English, abstract: At least once in a lifetime probably every one of us has woken up with some kind of disordered hair that we could not get control of. Bad hair days are normal; bad hair days are part of our life; so bad hair days should be considered as one of the most natural things in the world. Besides, millions of people, mainly males in and around their 60’s, have a comb over. That is just natural. So why has the spreading of such ordinary (bad) hair of the potential candidate for the 45Th US-presidency, Donald Trump, via the internet becomes so famous? Why has Trump’s hair inspired so many internet memes and aroused global interest? Does his hair also help to spark political interest in young internet users and potential voters who generally do not know much about politics? And what insights do these spreading online memes give people into contemporary socio-cultural and media issues?

Description : On November 8, 2016, Donald Trump won the American presidential election, to the surprise of many across the globe. Now that Trump is Commander-in-Chief of the most powerful country on earth, Americans and non-Americans alike have been left wondering what this will mean for the world. It has been claimed that Trump's foreign policy views are impulsive, inconsistent and that they were improvised on the campaign trail. However, drawing on interviews from as far back as 1980, Charlie Laderman and Brendan Simms show that this assumption is dangerously false. They reveal that Trump has had a consistent position on international trade and America's alliances since he first considered running for president in the late 1980s. Furthermore, his foreign policy views have deep roots in American history. For the new President, almost every international problem that has confronted the United States can be explained by the mistakes of its leaders. Yet, after decades of dismissing America's leaders as fools and denouncing their diplomacy, Trump must now prove that he can do better.Over the past three decades, he has been laying out in interviews, articles, books and tweets what amounts to a foreign policy philosophy. This book reveals the world view that Trump brings to the Oval Office. It shows how that world view was formed, what might result if it is applied in policy terms and the potential consequences for the rest of the world.

Description : “It may be cold comfort in this chaotic era, but Americans should know that there are adults in the room. . . . And we are trying to do what’s right even when Donald Trump won’t.”—An anonymous senior administrative official in an op-ed published in a New York Times op-ed, September 5, 2018 Every president faces criticism and caricature. Donald Trump, however, is unique in that he is routinely characterized in ways more suitable for a toddler. What’s more, it is not just Democrats, pundits, or protestors who compare the president to a child; Trump’s staffers, subordinates, and allies on Capitol Hill also describe Trump like a small, badly behaved preschooler. In April 2017, Daniel W. Drezner began curating every example he could find of a Trump ally describing the president like a toddler. So far, he’s collected more than one thousand tweets—a rate of more than one a day. In The Toddler-in-Chief, Drezner draws on these examples to take readers through the different dimensions of Trump’s infantile behavior, from temper tantrums to poor impulse control to the possibility that the President has had too much screen time. How much damage can really be done by a giant man-baby? Quite a lot, Drezner argues, due to the winnowing away of presidential checks and balances over the past fifty years. In these pages, Drezner follows his theme—the specific ways in which sharing some of the traits of a toddler makes a person ill-suited to the presidency—to show the lasting, deleterious impact the Trump administration will have on American foreign policy and democracy. The “adults in the room” may not be able to rein in Trump’s toddler-like behavior, but, with the 2020 election fast approaching, the American people can think about whether they want the most powerful office turned into a poorly run political day care facility. Drezner exhorts us to elect a commander-in-chief, not a toddler-in-chief. And along the way, he shows how we must rethink the terrifying powers we have given the presidency.

Description : As cartoonist, author, public speaker, blogger, and periscoper, Scott Adams has had best-sellers in several different fields: his Dilbert cartoons, his meditations on the philosophy of Dilbert, his works on how to achieve success in business and all other areas of life, his two remarkable books on religion, and now his controversial work on political persuasion. Adams’s two most recent best-sellers are How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big: Kind of the Story of My Life (2014) and Win Bigly: Persuasion in a World Where Facts Don’t Matter (2017). Adams predicted Donald Trump’s election victory (on August 13th 2016) and has explained then and more recently how Trump operates as a Master Persuader, using “weapons-grade” persuasive techniques to defeat his opponents and often to stay several moves ahead of them. Adams has provocative ideas in many areas, for example his outrageous claim that 30 percent of the population have absolutely no sense of humor, and take their cue from conventional opinion in deciding whether something is a joke, since they have no way of deciding this for themselves. In Scott Adams and Philosophy, an elite cadre of people who think for a living put Scott Adams’s ideas under scrutiny. Every aspect of Adams’s fascinating and infuriating system of ideas is explained and tested. Among the key topics: Does humor inform us about reality? Do religious extremists know something the rest of us don’t? What are facts and how can they not matter? What happens when confirmation bias meets cognitive dissonance? How can we tell whether President Trump is a genius or just dumb-lucky? Does the Dilbert philosophy discourage the struggle for better workplace conditions? How sound is Adams’s claim that “systems” thinking beats goal-directed thinking? Does Dilbert exhibit a Nietzschean or a Kierkegaardian sense of life? Or is it Sisyphian in Camus’s sense? Can truth be over-rated? “The political side that is out of power is the side that hallucinates the most.” If there’s a serious chance we’re living in a Matrix-type simulation, how should we change our behavior? Are most public policy issues just too complex and technical for most people to have an opinion about? In politics, says Adams, it’s as if different people watch the same movie at the same time, some thinking it’s a romantic comedy and others thinking it’s a horror picture. How is that possible? Does logic play any part in persuasion?
