Description : Excerpt from Fables Folk-Tales From an Eastern Forest Here, however, it is perhaps worth noting that although the Mouse-deer as a master of slimness is given the preeminent place among all the beasts of the field, its mantle is sometimes temporarily permitted to fall upon the shoulders of other and quite different members of the animal creation. Hence we hnd in the 14th story, that the King crow is worsted by a Water-snai], and I may add that in a Javanese fable of the same type (for which compare our own 'hare-and-tortoise' F able) the Mouse-deer itself plays the part of the deceived, instead of that of the deceiver. But the subject of the mutual relations of the Beasts in Malayan Fable is one which has yet to be worked out, and which lies unfortunately far beyond the bounds of the present disquisition. Description : This book is a masterpiece of fantasy artwork and writing and comprised of a number of tantalizing nordic fairytales written by Asbjornsen in the early 19th century. They just don't make storybooks like this anymore, and could easily be appreciated by young readers and adults alike. The work is illustrated with forty six stunning images produced by the brilliant Kay Nielsen, and some of his life’s best work can be seen in this book, now available in convenient epub3 format for view on your smartphone, tablet or computer. Nielsen dedicated years into turning these old wives tales and stories of old into an amazing visual journey. Children these days don't get to see sensational pieces of writing and illustration like this, however, back in its day, this book would have been the worlds greatest achievement in illustrated childrens' fantasy. The stories in this book contain heroic journeys, the grotesque and the supernatural, and for those reasons, adults can also enjoy going through this amazing piece of literature. Resurrected from antiquity, the stunning ‘East of the Sun and West of the Moon’ is now conveniently available for you to read on your device.

Description : Excerpt from A Tale of the Near East Chatter of voices curiously varied in tone, laughter, and the tinkling of glass and coffee cups drifted through the open French windows, sounds that contrasted oddly with the superb calm and crystal atmosphere of the open. For the locality of this summer hotel was on a highland plateau of Syria, some feet above sea and plain. The matchless prospect around was of billows of moun tain ridges, while immediately below the eye a pine strewn slope, scattered with huge bowlders of rock, slid almost perpendicularly into a deep ravine. Daylight would show in its depths a sturdy stream hurtling its way through thickets of rose-laden oleanders.
