Description : “The cast of characters seemed infinite in variety. Figures of monumental stature, ordinary men and women, heroes, villains, lovers and warriors, idealist, cultural icons, leaders of industry, family and friends,“ all appear in this looking glass of small-town politics and it’s enthusiastic glam. The tale is one of rapture and regret, flashes of guilty pleasure and tearful refrain, proud achievement and embarrassing blunders. Then again, when all my strutting and fretting is done, my book amounts to a fun, humorous political satire. I will settle for your enjoyment of my work as one of my desires.

Description : V. Sithannan, author of the title "Immoral Traffic - Prostitution in India", has marked it to the guardians of Law and Morals in India and the world. Standing firmly on the challenging locale of Indian Law and Legal System and drawing substance from his rich and varied experience as a Law Enforcement Officer of the Police Department of Tamil Nadu. Sithannan, in writing this monumental treatise, has fulfilled the longtime need of the Judicial Officers, Law Enforcement Authorities, Social Activists, NGOs, Gender Activists and the general public. In writing this volume, the academic quest of Sithannan has made him to cull out diverse facts and figures from various enactments, official documents and literature relating to Immoral Traffic and Prostitution. Further in this scholarly work, the author does not stop with expressing his sentiments of compassion for the Victims of Prostitution but he is concerned also with their rescue, rehabilitation and their decent placement in society, on a par with others. However, the agents, the brothel-runners and the traffickers in the trade of Prostitution come under his scathing attack and reprehensible condemnation, for these wolves, the world over , have made this ignoble profession into an industry, the third major lucrative global industry, next only to arms-smuggling and trade in narcotics. The Book contains 17 Chapters plus 3 Appendices. In these divisions, the author, talks about the types, causes and impact of prostitution, which result in various forms of harmful diseases. Further, a comparative picture of the legal status of Immoral Traffic in other countries is also given. Also, the author describes various instruments of Law, available for safeguarding the child victims of Trafficking and Prostitution. The Chapters on the Powers of the Police Officers and the Checklist(128) for Investigating Officers are path-breaking indeed! Judgment of cases on Immoral Trafficking and Prostitution, recorded in the Book, along with a list of the Powers of the Court, the Central and the State Governments would be a major source of reference material for the officials of Law and Governments. Apart from this, the 39 points on further role of NGO's and People's Organisations and other Social Activists in the field and would be of immense value, when they go for field work. The author has concluded the Book with suggestions and recommendations for arresting the menace of trafficking in persons and in this respect, he has made as many as 59 very valuable suggestions, besides giving 31 valid proposals and recommendations for effectively preventing child trafficking for purposes of prostitution and for engaging the child in worst forms of child labour. The Appendices have listed in a detailed way the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956, in detail in three aspects. This Title is a scholarly one appearing at the most appropriate time, when the scourge of HIV/AIDS is catching up in a developing country like India, as wild fire, capable of halting its economic progress. The author has rightly written in his Preface that when a Law Enforcement Officer reads this Book, he would ensure conviction for the offenders; when an Advocate goes through the Title, he will see to the acquittal of his clients; and when a Judicial Officer reads this Book and pronounces judgments on cases like these, he is sure to pronounce judgments marked by social concern and compassion for the victims-women and children. No wonder that this book is a must for all the advocates, social activists, gender rights workers, NGOs and researchers on Gender Studies and other guardians of Law and Morals.

Description : Fiction. This wildly imaginative collection of fourteen short stories won't move you to tears, but will very likely move you to laughter. Phillips writes about a "committee of grief," about termites in Africa, about Lee Harvey Oswald's can opener. He tells of how an angry consumer shows his disdain for the telephone company by sending out false bills which, ultimately, leads to the withdrawal of the state of Iowa from the union. In one crazy piece, Phillips describes the chaos that occurs when a cat finds Thomas Hardy's heart, and, well, devours it, disrupting plans to put the heart on display. And he writes that amazing title story: Yes, it's true. "King Lear" was penned by Radcliffe Graduate Muriel B. Hopkins, not by the esteemed William Shakespeare. What is the theme connecting these stories? Madness, perhaps, but not only the madness of single characters - these stories are also about the "madness of crowds." Read these stories, but be prepared to confront new realities, some of which you may never entirely escape.

Description : Inger Frimansson was born in 1944 in Stockholm and grew up in various places in the middle of Sweden. Today she lives in Södertälje, a town not far from Stockholm, with her husband Jan. As a young girl Inger Frimansson won a number of literary competitions, among them, the so-called Little Nobel Prize in 1963. She started her career as a working journalist, and she made her debut as a writer of serious fiction in 1984 with her novel The Double Bed (Dubbelsängen). In 1997, she published her first full-fledged psychological thriller, I Will Fear No Evil (Fruktar jag intet ont). A significant breakthrough in her writing career occurred in 1998 with the publication of Good Night, My Darling (Godnatt, min älskade), which was voted Best Mystery Novel of the Year by the Swedish Academy of Mystery Authors. The jury's citation included this appreciation: "A psychological thriller about senselessness and revenge that doesn't loosen its grasp of the reader's attention for the length of the book." In autumn 2002, The Island of Naked Women (De nakna kvinnornas ö) was published, a thriller about vehement passion and unprovoked manslaughter. Hidden Tracks (Mörkerspår), 2003, followed with more rave reviews from the critics, as did the recent The Shadow in the Water (Skuggan i vattnet), awarded with The Swedish Academy of Mystery Authors Award for Best Swedish Crime Novel 2005. She is the only female crime author ever to receive this award twice. Inger Frimansson's novels are translated into several languages and are published in various editions in Norway, Latvia, Holland, Finland, Denmark, Spain, Bulgaria, and Germany. We at Pleasure Boat Studio are privileged to have brought Inger’s books to an English-reading audience through the excellent translations of Laura Wideburg (winner of the Best Translation of the Year Award from ForeWord Magazine for her translation of Good Night, My Darling). [See Laura’s biography at the bottom of this page.] In the near future, we will be publishing a fourth Frimansson thriller, The Cat Who Wouldn’t Die.

Description : Fiction. Mace Caslon walks into the Metropolitan Museum of Art and throws acid on Universal Woman, a forty-one million dollar Picasso. This provocative act throws him into the center of a media-crazed frenzy: Exploitive television personalities, enraged museum officials, terrified collectors, confused dealers, aggressive lawyers, a U.S. Attorney on the make, instant psychiatrists, shocked ex-lovers, hyper-cool teenagers, hustler artists, and anti-art demonstrators each demand their time in the spotlight. "I thoroughly enjoyed Everett Aison's novel about a regular guy who commits an acte gratuite, the desecration of an art world treasure, and its wildly snowballing consequences. Mace is a funny, slightly sex-obsessed, and not always sympathetic protagonist, for this story of a provocation is itself a provocation. Humane at its core, though, this novel takes a bead on the obscene mix of art, money and the media with the best possible humor"--Molly Haskell.

Description : Examining nearly 60 mass shootings that have occurred in the United States since 1982, this book focuses on the actions taken and decisions made by those who survived these horrific attacks. Armed with this new information, the old axiom “fight or flight” is dispelled or at least modified for this new breed of killer. Fight by yourself and you are almost assuredly going to join the ranks of the victims if not the overall body count; flee and present a target for the killer or draw his attention, and chances are you will not make it out alive. This book is comprised of vital information gleaned from survivors who have successfully endured some of the most tragic and violent incidents in US history over the past 40 years. Mass Shootings: Six Steps to Survival presents an easy-to-understand model for every citizen of nearly any age. Armed with this vital information, citizens will be able to learn from the actual experiences of mass shooting survivors and understand both successful and unsuccessful tactics which have been utilized by these individuals in past incidents. How would I respond to a heavily-armed gunman who is determined to kill as many people as possible? What would I do if I were caught in the wrong place at the wrong time: in a crowded movie theater, at a popular concert, out celebrating at a city festival, or simply eating lunch with my child at school? What do I do? Do I have the knowledge and skills necessary to survive an attack? How do I save myself and help others? All of these questions and more are answered in Mass Shootings: Six Steps to Survival, a book written specifically to provide the information and tools necessary to survive a mass shooting or active shooter assault.

Description : 36 Love Stories is an attempt to break the stereotypes that cluster around the emotion called love. Love has no one definition and it can't be limited to only one dimension of teenage love or conjugal love. It can be very ordinary, fleeting and yet a fragment of our soul. This 'anthology' is a collection of such short stories based on a common theme - Anything, any activity, any person or living being that/who makes life passionate and meaningful. To be all inclusive this book should be better named as Infinite Love Stories but isn't love infinite in it qualitatively? To ponder more on such questions - let’s embark on a journey to discover the infiniteness of love contained in our finite passionate tales.
