Effecting changes in spiritual growth through teaching during the early morning prayer time Book Excerpt:

"The goal of this study is to show that the faith of the church members will grow when the early morning prayer meeting is used well. Sun-Haeng Methodist Church, where the researcher works, is located in a rural area and most of the church members are busy working in the field. Due to their busy schedules, it is very hard for them to make extra time to pray for spiritual growth. Also, they cannot take regular time out to read the Bible for their faith. Especially during the busy farming season, the attendance for the Sunday morning service is very low. Accordingly, the rate of helping others and having dedication is low. Their concern for evangelism and mission is very low, too. To overcome these problems, the researcher recruited the participants and trained them with words and prayer. After receiving ten weeks of training, the church members at Sun-Haeng Methodist Church realized the importance of prayer and began to pray more by attending the early morning prayer meetings. Those who participated in the training became more active in attending the worship services and taking part in evangelism. Especially, their spiritualities were awakened and their spiritual gifts were developed. They began to work hard in building the Kingdom of God by doing their best in constructing the new church building. In Chapter 1, the researcher stated the problem with the setting of his church background. He established five hypotheses. They are the changing of the understanding of their distorted view on prayer, systematized Bible study, active church attending, sacrifice and dedication, and evangelism and mission. In Chapter 2, the biblical basis, theological basis and historical basis of prayer were described. Several cases on faith growth in the OT and NT were analyzed and described. Also, the theological basis and historical basis on spiritual growth were stated. In Chapter 3, similar researches, theoretical construct and practical application on spiritual growth were discussed. In Chapter 4, the methodologies in this project were stated. 30 believers were recruited as sample group: 15 believers as a Treatment Group, and another 15 as a Control Group. Those in Treatment Group were trained for two hours for 10 weeks on every Saturday and Sunday mornings. The rationale for the methodologies and precise procedures such as making questionnaire, data gathering and data analysis were stated. In Chapter 5, the result of the implementation was stated. In Chapter 6, the interpretation of the result, conclusion of the project, recommendation for further studies and theological reflection were stated"--Abstract.

Transforming Children into Spiritual Champions Book Excerpt:

No one can deny our culture is opposed to Christian values, and the influences bombarding our children's moral development are difficult to contend with. But few parents and church leaders realize that a child's moral development is set by the age of nine. It is therefore critical to start developing a child's biblical worldview from the very earliest years of life. The problem is complex: parents who themselves did not receive early spiritual training leave their children's training to the church. Yet the church often focuses on older children. The answer is for churches to come alongside parents to provide them biblical worldview training, parenting information, and counseling that will equip them to help their children become the spiritually mature church of tomorrow. This helpful and hopeful book unpacks just how to develop this kind of dynamic church/parent relationship and includes profiles of churches that are effectively ministering to children and winning the war for their hearts and minds.

Short Term Spiritual Guidance Book Excerpt:

This book represents a significant departure from most contemporary writing about spiritual direction. While most writers focus on long-term relationships of guidance, specifically envisioning long listening sessions, Bidwell changes focus. Spiritual direction, he insists, typically requires intervention in a specific crisis or situation or question, is not formal, lasts fewer than five sessions, and must be actively and intentionally focused on the person's growth. Bidwell's work shows what spiritual directors can learn from the short-term therapy model, especially about enabling people briefly but effectively to ''learn to listen on their own and with others for God's presence.'' Focusing on how God is already active in the directee's life allows the participants to identify God's action and respond in ways that collaborate with that identified movement of the Spirit.

Discipleship in Education Book Excerpt:

Students are often tested to evaluate their academic knowledge, but few Christian schools use objective measures to determine if a student has become a true disciple of Christ. Unfortunately, there are few organizations that provide metrics for measuring biblical knowledge, let alone any sort of comparative evaluation of students engaging in the Christian disciplines, forming a biblical worldview, or actually being impacted spiritually by the programs of the school. No matter whose statistics one chooses to believe, the inescapable truth is that the church is losing its young men and women at an alarming rate once they graduate from high school. The solution to this problem is simple, but increasingly difficult to solve with each passing year. Discipleship is what is needed for young people to truly identify who they are in Christ, so that they can begin to develop godly habits and ultimately grow in their knowledge, faith, and desire to serve the Lord and his Kingdom. Christian schools have some particular advantages in the area of discipleship; however, their full potential is, at the moment, untapped. Discipleship in Education is about preparing everyone from administrators, teachers, pastors, and parents to be ready to unleash that potential.

All God s People Book Excerpt:

Disciples of Christ come in all ages and colors, but they also come from different backgrounds and bring with them diverse gifts, needs, opportunities, and challenges. As a result, catechesis must never take the form of one-size-fits-all. While the Gospel message is eternal, our messaging (how we share that timeless message) needs to adapt to an ever-changing reality, or we risk being perceived as irrelevant. This sixth volume of The Effective Catechetical Leader takes a close look at the many groups of people to be catechized—from school-age children to young adults, from parents to the catechists themselves—and offers strategies and tips to effectively engage all of them in life-giving, Gospel-centered faith formation. The Effective Catechetical Leader series, developed in conjunction with the National Conference for Catechetical Leadership and written by some of the top catechetical leaders in the country, is the only series to encompass all the various aspects of catechetical leadership. This series provides the practical skills, strategies, and approaches that ensure successful parish faith formation in an evangelizing manner, which leads directly to a vibrant Church. From best practices to new approaches for proclaiming God’s word in a rapidly changing world, this groundbreaking series will empower catechetical leaders to excel at everything from administrative duties to effectively catechizing people of all ages within our diverse Church.

Honor to the Great Head of the Church Book Excerpt:

Honor to the Great Head of the Church A Transformational Model for Church Leadership, Administration, and Management This Volume One of the Transformational Church Administration Series is support for the organized church to stay on Christ’s message of redemption He has set for the church. Its purpose is to share passion for a committed focus on God’s ordained purpose and mission for His church. Church leaders are encouraged throughout the volume to adhere to theological principles for continued devotion to God’s one true mission. That message is that Christ is God’s mission. Christ is God’s only mission for the church, the people of God. The church exists only as it participates in the “act of Christ.” Chapter by chapter, the book communicates the necessity to intentionally combine God’s divine mission as presented from biblical theology with practical applications of organizational leadership and management. The critical shift with this book apart for other resources highlighting the works of church administration is the acknowledgements that for the church to remain under the Lordship of Christ; the church must be in a continued pursuit to seek Jesus the Chris in all engagements of worship, administration, management and service. The Lord’s purpose of redemption from sin and death has to remain front and central in every ministry, in all programmatic formats, and every service project represented by the church. God’s call to redeem lost man unto salvation and discipleship is highlighted as functions to be grounded through participation in service models and organization. Learners come to view leadership and administration from a scriptural context. As a result, leadership theories and principles of management accurately operate with results that brings edification to the glory of God in all matters of church leadership for administration.
