Description : Single best answer (SBA) questions have been introduced into the Final FRCR Part A examination of the Royal College of Radiologists in the UK for the first time. This book of 600 SBA questions and explanatory answers has been written to aid students preparing for the exam by current trainees in clinical radiology, coordinated through The Society of Radiologists in Training (SRT). Questions are grouped by topic and each topic is split into three papers of 70 questions, with explanations separated into chapters to enable readers to either attempt a whole mock exam paper or to browse question by question. The book is a bridge between a pure revision aid and a reference text, including a bibliography of useful references for further information. This is a companion volume to Final FRCR Part A Modules 4-6 Single Best Answer MCQs by the same team.

Description : Reinforcement learning is the learning of a mapping from situations to actions so as to maximize a scalar reward or reinforcement signal. The learner is not told which action to take, as in most forms of machine learning, but instead must discover which actions yield the highest reward by trying them. In the most interesting and challenging cases, actions may affect not only the immediate reward, but also the next situation, and through that all subsequent rewards. These two characteristics -- trial-and-error search and delayed reward -- are the most important distinguishing features of reinforcement learning. Reinforcement learning is both a new and a very old topic in AI. The term appears to have been coined by Minsk (1961), and independently in control theory by Walz and Fu (1965). The earliest machine learning research now viewed as directly relevant was Samuel's (1959) checker player, which used temporal-difference learning to manage delayed reward much as it is used today. Of course learning and reinforcement have been studied in psychology for almost a century, and that work has had a very strong impact on the AI/engineering work. One could in fact consider all of reinforcement learning to be simply the reverse engineering of certain psychological learning processes (e.g. operant conditioning and secondary reinforcement). Reinforcement Learning is an edited volume of original research, comprising seven invited contributions by leading researchers.

Description : Photogrammetry is a science based technology with more than a century of history and development. During this time, the techniques used to get information about objects represented in photos have changed dramatically from pure optic mechanical equipment to a fully digital workflow in our days. Parallel to this, the handling became easier, and so its possible also for non-photogrammetrists to use these methods today. This book is especially written for potential users which have no photogram metric education but would like to use the powerful capabilities from time to time or in smaller projects: Geographers, Geologists, Cartographers, Forest Engineers who would like to come into the fascinating field of photogrammetry via "learning by doing". For this reason, this book is not a textbook - for more and deeper the ory, there exists a lot ofliterature, and it is suggested to use some ofthis. A special recommendation should be given to the newest book from KONECNY (2002) for basic theory and the mathematical backgrounds or to the book from SCHENK (1999) for the particular situation in digital photogrammetry. For a quick reference especially to algorithms and technical terms see also the Photogrammetric Guide from ALBERTZ & KREILING (1989). This book includes a CD-ROM which contains all you need from software and data to learn about the various methods from the beginning (scanning of the pho tos) to final products like ortho images or mosaics.

Description : In the twenty-first century, the widespread integration of computer technologies has brought text-based information into many facets of everyday life. This has caused an ever-growing interest in typography across many fields of visual communication, where text and letterform play a central role in disseminating social trends and reflecting the spirit of the times. Arabic Typography takes the reader through a comprehensive study of Arabic letterforms, starting with a concise historical overview of their development and styles, and proceeding to the latest design and technological advances. It attempts to establish the foundations for Arabic type-design by drawing lessons from past practices and aesthetic conventions, in order to retain the enduring traits that are of relevance for improvement and innovation in future type-design creations. Going beyond the historical facts to discuss current design issues pertaining to the creation and production of letterforms, it presents Arabic typographic design as an essential communication tool that should marry functionality and legibility to aesthetic delight. This book will serve as a valuable reference on Arabic typography, and as an educational guide for design students, professionals and anyone who uses Arabic type and enjoys the visual appearance of this language and its letterforms.
