Description : Unique local transformations of the practice of established religions in Asia and the Pacific are juxtaposed with the emergence of new religious movements whose incidence is growing across the region. In Flows of Faith, the contributing authors take as their starting point questions of how religions manifest outside their cultural boundaries and provide the basis for new social identities, political movements and social transformations. With fresh insights into the globalization of beliefs, their local inflections, and their institutionalization, the authors explore how old and new religions work in different settings, and how their reception and membership challenge orthodox understandings of religion and culture. The chapters – set in Asia, the Pacific, Australia, and the US – illustrate the contrasts and commonalities of these belief systems, and their allegiances and networks in the region and beyond. They include new religious movements – Falun Gong, Brahma Kumaris, the Hare Krishna movement, based in East and South Asia with outreach posts in Australia and the U.S. – and established ‘old’ religions – Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism and Islam – that are revitalized and recreated in different settings and places. Flows of Faith describes the transnational reaches of faith. Religious practices and their local manifestations track the movement of peoples, through mission outreach, flight, migration, and pilgrimage. In each new setting, religions are shaped by and in turn shape political and cultural forces, proving that they are resilient and generative, originary and distinctive. The volume is a major contribution, providing readers with a fresh and creative approach into the living experience of religious communities in a contemporary globalised world.

Description : This book studies the concepts and philosophies governing globalized faiths. Transnational Religious Movements is a convincing narrative of how global religions have moved beyond spirituality to become key players in the world of welfare, education, economics, politics, and international relations. It examines the major faiths of the world, viz., Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, and a sect. of Hinduism, to demonstrate transnational religious movements in the wake of globalization. The book focuses on the strategies and practices of six representative religious organizations that operate transnationally and helps us understand how they are formed, structured, and institutionalized in society, and how they operate. It dwells on how individuals, groups, media, and state as well as non-state actors come to terms with these organizations. World religions do not simply respond to globalization; they also shape and affect the future dynamics of globalization.

Description : Digital media is changing the ways in which religion is practiced, understood, proselytised and countered. Religious institutions and leaders use digital media to engage with their congregations who now are not confined to single locations and physical structures. The faithful are part of online communities which allow them a space to worship and to find fellowship. Migrant and mobile subjects thus are able to be connected to their faith -- whether home grown or emerging -- wherever they may be, providing them with an anchor in unfamiliar physical and cultural surroundings. As Asia rises, mobilities associated with Asian populations have escalated. The notion of 'Global Asia' is a reflection of this increased mobility, where Asia includes not only Asian countries as sites of political independence, but also the transnational networks of Asian trans/migrants, and the diasporic settlements of Asian peoples all over the world. This collection features cutting edge research by scholars across disciplines seeking to understand the role and significance of religion among transnational mobile subjects in this age of digital media, and in particular, as experienced in Global Asia.

Description : In one of his sermons, Saint Augustine asked his congregation, "Do you believe?" And they answered, "Yes, we believe!" He told them: "Then live your faith and you have true faith." I used to think that this meant that I should make my life conform to the tenets of my faith. If I believe in life everlasting, I should not make this earth a permanent abode. If I believe that God became incarnate in Jesus, then I should respect and cherish all the flesh, that is, all the people sanctified by His presence and so forth. But then, one day, I realized that if to believe is to establish contact with God, then to live my faith is to be enlivened by that immeasurable source of life. Faith is like a switch between the little motor that runs my life and the Dynamo from which all power comes. To believe, to turn on the switch, is to be turned on, to be set in motion in the world. Living my faith means paramountly to let the divine energy flow through me. The details are secondary. They are a help to me to concentrate on the source of my inner life. But the important thing is to be the conduit through which the water Source tapped by faith flows freely into the world.

Description : This book examines the thinking of two nineteenth-century existentialist thinkers, Soren Kierkegaard and Friedrich Nietzsche. Its focus is on the radically different ways they envisioned a joyful acceptance of life - a concern they shared. For Kierkegaard, in Fear and Trembling, joyful acceptance flows from the certitude of faith. For Nietzsche, in Thus Spoke Zarathustra, joyful acceptance is an acceptance of the eternal recurrence of life, and is ultimately a matter of will. This book explores the relationship between these opposed visions.

Description : "The Summa Theologica is the best-known work of Italian philosopher, scholar, and Dominican friar SAINT THOMAS AQUINAS (1225 1274), widely considered the Catholic Church s greatest theologian. Famously consulted (immediately after the Bible) on religious questions at the Council of Trent, Aquinas s masterpiece has been considered a summary of official Church philosophy ever since. Aquinas considers approximately 10,000 questions on Church doctrine covering the roles and nature of God, man, and Jesus, then lays out objections to Church teachings and systematically confronts each, using Biblical verses, theologians, and philosophers to bolster his arguments. In Volume III, Aquinas addresses: faith and heresy charity peace and war mercy, anger, and justice prayer truth and much more. This massive work of scholarship, spanning five volumes, addresses just about every possible query or argument that any believer or atheist could have, and remains essential, more than seven hundred years after it was written, for clergy, religious historians, and serious students of Catholic thought."

Description : From a world-renowned painter, an exploration of creativity’s quintessential—and often overlooked—role in the spiritual life “Makoto Fujimura’s art and writings have been a true inspiration to me. In this luminous book, he addresses the question of art and faith and their reconciliation with a quiet and moving eloquence.”—Martin Scorsese “[An] elegant treatise . . . Fujimura’s sensitive, evocative theology will appeal to believers interested in the role religion can play in the creation of art.”—Publishers Weekly Conceived over thirty years of painting and creating in his studio, this book is Makoto Fujimura’s broad and deep exploration of creativity and the spiritual aspects of “making.” What he does in the studio is theological work as much as it is aesthetic work. In between pouring precious, pulverized minerals onto handmade paper to create the prismatic, refractive surfaces of his art, he comes into the quiet space in the studio, in a discipline of awareness, waiting, prayer, and praise. Ranging from the Bible to T. S. Eliot, and from Mark Rothko to Japanese Kintsugi technique, he shows how unless we are making something, we cannot know the depth of God’s being and God’s grace permeating our lives. This poignant and beautiful book offers the perspective of, in Christian Wiman’s words, “an accidental theologian,” one who comes to spiritual questions always through the prism of art.

Description : There is a genuine flow of the Holy Spirit! . . . and many worthless imitations. Mel Montgomery learned about spiritual gifts and prophetic ministry from the Goodwins, who were mentors to Kenneth Hagin, John Osteen, Billye Brim, Pat Harrison, and many others. Eventually, Brother Mel was entrusted with rare early Pentecostal recordings, most of which had never before been copied or released to the public. These recordings were by: Howard Carter, Stanley Frodsham, F.F. Bosworth, and other faith giants of yesteryear. Mel discovered that the deep truths of the Holy Spirit, as taught by the Goodwins and the early Pentecostal giants, had been largely obscured in our day. In The Genuine Flow, Mel presents the teachings of the early faith giants, combined with his own experiences in ministry. You will learn how the faith giants flowed in the Spirit, and how you can too. Brother Mel ministers in local churches and in ministers meetings. Mel's website, www.brothermel.com, has been accessed over 2 million times by people downloading his teachings and recordings in more than 150 countries. His podcast, "Voices of the Faith Giants," is heard around the world.

Description : EMPOWERED If you want to know who you are in Christ and why you are empowered? Read this book. What are you empowered to do? Jesus was the seed of the woman. You are the seed of Jesus Christ because every born-again believer was born out of Him. He died to give you new life. One seed gave rise to hundreds and thousands of more seeds. If we truly love the Seed of the woman, then we will enthusiastically and willingly obey His mandate. Did Christ delegate His authority to just a few? Is this mandate given to every believer? Did He create every human being upon this earth? Does He love every human being and want them to come to the knowledge of Christ? Read this book. It will not only motivate, increase your faith, help you to live out Jesus Christ, make you faithful but also help you live a prosperous and a victorious life. This book will show how you are living below your expectation. There is a miracle in every seed! You are empowered to sow that seed. THE SEED IS THE WORD. Life! What is life? Life is encapsulated in a seed. The seed is the Word. Words, Words, Words! Powerful words! This must find an abiding place in the heart of the "would be believers." The Holy Spirit hovers over the man. The Spirit and the Word work together. The Spirit helps to break up the fallow ground of the heart, causing furrows. The Word brings conviction which engenders repentance. The hearing ear causes the word to be embedded in the furrows of the heart. The "rain" of the Spirit helps the seed in the heart to germinate. The angelic host, sing hallelujah! A child is born into the Kingdom of God. What a joyous moment! Birthing always brings with it great rejoicing and joy unspeakable. Why did Jesus take those thirty nine stripes on His back? His flesh on His back was torn causing bleeding and gaping furrows. The seeds that fell into these furrows birthed the first fruits of His ministry. The Seed of the woman, who was scourged, broken and bruised did not go through this agony and pain in vain. His death on the cross birthed hundreds and millions of souls. Being born out of Jesus Christ is real life! Abundant life! Eternal life! THE SEED FAITH Faith! What is faith? " Oh faithless and perverse generation " Everyone has a measure of faith. How does this measure of "faith" translate to " faith that moves mountains." Faith is seed. The seed is the Word. Faith grows as the Word is heard. Faith flourishes and matures to bear fruit. How does this happen? The increase comes by hearing and hearing again the Word. Whether one is hearing the Word from the lips of others or listening to ones own voice or meditating on the Word or reading silently, the inner ear is listening to the Word. As this word enters the heart it becomes the Rhema Word. Living out the Word helps faith to grow. "For without faith it is impossible to please God" ( Hebrews 11 : 6 ) Obedience flows out of our faith in God. The Spirit of the Word has the "dunamis" power to increase our spiritual faith. Faith is like the electrifying power as we surrender in homage to our Creator God. Abraham is a very good example of such a faith He obeyed God without question. No wonder that he is referred to as the "Friend of God." He walked with God and he sensitized his ear to hearing from God. God is not asking for big faith but faith the size of a seed. If your faith is a seed it will germinate and grow. When faith matures it will bear fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty fold and others hundred fold. So faith is a fruit that God loves in everyone of us. " If you have faith as a mustard seed you will say to this mountain, " move from here to there, it will move and nothing will be impossible for you." Matthew 17: 18 20 THE SEED ANOINTINGou set apart and sanctified? Do you need protection and strength? Do you need empowerment to be defensive and offensive? You need to be empowered by the Spirit of God. He will fill you with His pow
