Description : Many associate terrorism with irrational behavior and believe only lunatics could perpetuate such horrific acts. Global Alert debunks this myth by anatomizing the rationale behind modern terrorism. It draws a distinct picture of its root and instrumental causes and plots the different stages of a terrorist attack, from indoctrination and recruitment to planning, preparation, and launch. Global Alert also exposes the measured exploitation of democratic institutions by terrorists to further their goals. Despite its strong capabilities and extensive resources, the modern liberal-democratic state is nevertheless subject to the rules of war, which partially restrict the state's ability to operate and maneuver. Boaz Ganor shows how terrorist organizations exploit these values to paralyze or neutralize the states they oppose. In outlining this new "hybrid" terrorist organization and its activity in both the military–terrorist arena and the political–welfare arena, Ganor advances an international doctrine for governing military operations between state and nonstate actors as part of a new type of armed conflict termed "multidimensional warfare."

Description : 2012 Global Warning: The destination or the beginning of the apocalypse? Ninth and Last Sign: You will hear of a dwelling place in the heavens, above the earth, that shall fall with a great crash. It will appear as a blue star. And very soon after this the ceremonies of people will cease. There are nine signs that great destruction has come and is coming. Like many tribes, the Hopis drew images that have come to pass and images of things to come. Thirteen Baktuns is equal to just over 5,125 years, and in our present age of the jaguar, the fourth age, the Great Cycle runs out on the winter solstice, December 21, 2012, the Mayan end date. The meaning is the death of the sun, the rebirth of a universe, and the Mayan Prophecy of the return of the god Quetzalcoatl: all this is the subject of active debate. This time will also mark a United States change in era where we will elect a new President. Is this the prophecy of the Antichrist? Could it be the end of one time and the beginning of the final stages of centuries of prophecies?

Description : To understand and constructively participate in the current debate on global warming and its consequences, it is essential to have a guide to the playing field. Dr. Melvin A. Benarde’s book is this guide and more. It is, in fact, a Baedeker through the minefields of uncertainty which currently bedevil much of the discussion on global warming. He contends that predictions of global warming and its consequences generated by mathematical models are too often taken as holy writ. When, in fact, he states, they can only be seen as tentative. Anything else severely tortures the data. Without this rendering the current discussions border on babble. Bias, prejudice, and hidden agendas are everywhere and can be obstacles and pitfalls for the unprepared and unwary. By no means does he shrug off the idea of a possible warming trend. Dr. Benarde takes this fully into account and discusses in generous detail the alternatives reasonable people would pursue in the face of prodigious uncertainty. Consequently the book goes well beyond any of the others currently in print in describing the shortcomings of the warming thesis, why the stable climate of the past 10,000 years may, or may not, change, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of a warmer world. Clearly, this fully documented book is essential reading for anyone interested in understanding the panoply of issues inherent in the possibility of climate change and contributes to much needed meaningful dialog

Description : Current Legal Issues, like its sister volume Current Legal Problems (now available in journal format), is based upon an annual colloquium held at University College London. Each year leading scholars from around the world gather to discuss the relationship between law and another discipline of thought. Each colloquium examines how the external discipline is conceived in legal thought and argument, how the law is pictured in that discipline, and analyses points of controversy in the use, and abuse, of extra-legal arguments within legal theory and practice. Law and Global Health, the sixteenth volume in the Current Legal Issues series, offers an insight into the scholarship examining the relationship between global health and the law. Covering a wide range of areas from all over the world, articles in the volume look at areas of human rights, vulnerable populations, ethical issues, legal responses and governance.
