Lighting the Fire Safely Fire Safety Putting out Your Campfire Cooking Meat in a Campfire Spiced Salt Useful URLs Conclusion Author Bio Publisher Introduction Ancient Greek mythology says that an adventurous and enterprising young lad named Prometheus crept into Olympus and stole one of the secrets of the Gods- Fire. As punishment, Zeus condemned him to have his liver eaten by an Eagle every morning. So while Prometheus had his liver eaten (it grew again during the night) mankind benefitted by one of Nature’s most powerful gifts- Fire. Any logical 21st century thinker is going to be entertained by this way of explaining the magic and phenomenon of fire as a treasure the Gods wanted to keep to themselves. Naturally, the ancient Greeks did not look into the much older practical use to which fire was already being put by man, much before he began dreaming up myths. Fire was the first natural power harnessed by man which separated him from other animals eons ago. He used it for warming his camp and hearth, cooking his food, protecting him from other animals and providing him with heat and light as well as psychological comfort at night or during inclement weather. Is it surprising then, that every civilization down the ages worshipped Fire? Not only was this power necessary for survival, but it was the holy symbol around which mankind wove his culture, rituals, and future traditional basis of religious celebrations.

Planning Your Garden Chessboard Garden Propagation of Herbs Growing through Cuttings. Test – Have Roots Been Formed Herb Plant Division. Plant maintenance Harvesting Your Plants. Root Plants. Whole Plant Harvesting Leaves Harvesting. Herbal Harvesting Flowers Harvesting Seed Harvesting Drying Your Herbs. Herb Storing Using Herbs Herbal tips Bouquet Garni Omelette aux herbes fines Making Herb Tea Conclusion Author Bio Introduction I have already written about how to make a herb garden in another gardening book- How to make a Herb Garden – in our Gardening series, but the gardener cum herbalist is going to get an even more extensive knowledge about how to make a full-fledged herbal garden in this book. Perfumes, juices, oils and other products extracted from seeds, leaves, shoots, and bark of the herbs have been used since the earliest times in religious ceremonies, and in cooking. Magicians used them in making mysterious potions to impress the credulous public. Herb essential oils along with parts of herbs have long been in use down the millenniums to make natural beauty products. The oracles of Delphi were women who had been “intoxicated” on fumes of deadly nightshade, which would make them hallucinate. And then with bay leaves in their mouths-these leaves were considered sacred to Apollo – they used to predict the future. No wonder not many could understand them or interpret their sayings. So each hearer chose the one which suited his requirements the best, and believed the Gods had spoken. Today, these herbs are usually grown for their great value in cooking. That is why it is well worth finding a small place for herbs in any garden. The 21st century world is also slowly and steadily getting back to the idea that the herbal remedies, which were used in alternative medicine in ancient civilizations of the East and West had curative properties. The Egyptians, Babylonians, Chinese, Mayans, Aztecs, Greek and other knowledgeable people all over the world used these herbs, and derived all the healthy benefits of them as often as they could.

Oil pulling Procedure When to Do Oil Pulling Tips Ailments cured by Oil pulling Water Therapy Water Therapy through Nostrils- Jal Neti Buying the Right Neti Pot Himalayan Salt Is Best How to Use a Neti Pot The Pot Procedure Benefits of Neti -based Water Therapy Precautions during Water Therapy. Pressure points for improving Eyesight Conclusion Author Bio Introduction Being very interested in alternative medicine forms like Ayurveda and being taught yoga as a part of our Academic curriculum, in our student days, I soon began to understand why the ancients in the East considered yoga to be an integral part of their lives. This book is going to introduce you to some of the more common ancient natural healing traditions practiced in the Indian subcontinent since ancient times. I was talking to an American audience about alternative Indian medicine, when I spoke about Ayurveda and yoga. A friend immediately said, “But that is religious, and is based on Hindu practices.” I would like to clear up this point once and for all. These practices are definitely not based to people belonging to one religion. Besides, the people who wrote these exercises and rules for right and proper living, and practiced them millenniums ago were Aryans and they gave this knowledge in their religious and spiritual books to the people of India who were practicing Hinduism. Practicing Hinduism? What do I mean by that? Consider Hinduism at that time to be a way of life, practicing nonviolence and following the wise teachings of the ancient ones. It is now a full-fledged religion, incorporating those same beliefs, traditions, and way of life in their manner of living and being. The ancient knowledge of those wise ones are now being practiced, as set down in the Vedas and the Puranas. I am definitely not a Hindu, but since childhood, I and my Hindu, Christian, Mussalman, Buddhist, Sikh and Jain Friends did all these yogic exercises every morning, during school assembly, and we never believed them to be part of a religious tradition belonging exclusively to the Hindus. Our teachers were sensible enough not to let even an inkling of this controversial idea blossom in our infantile, suspicious and susceptible minds, because that would mean that 17% of the students would immediately have their parents yelling “keep religion out of academics. This is unacceptable. ” This is an extremely touchy subject in the East. And because we considered these exercises to be part of PT, 15 minutes of this healthy workout kept us healthy and happy throughout our childhoods and youth. We never knew that they were yogic exercises! According to us, we were keeping healthy, in a natural manner. We definitely did not chant Hindu hymns while doing these exercises. That in itself would be anathema Maranatha to anybody not a Hindu, including I. So the idea that this universal healing tradition is limited to just one peoples, is definitely wrong, and it has been started by some lazy minded people, who would rather find excuses not to do a thing rather than work out. So here am I –not a Hindu!- telling all my friends all over the globe how they can keep healthy, through different natural remedy practices, which have been in vogue for centuries in the Indian subcontinent. These practices are going to include oil pulling, which is getting to be extremely popular in the West today, and also water therapy. All this information was taken by me from an experienced Ayurvedic doctor, so that all the information that is being given to you has been time tested and has been recommended by him. But before that, you would want to know a little bit more about the terms, which I am going to be using in this book.

A Beginner s Guide to Sumi e Book Excerpt:

This practical guide is perfect for those looking to try this ancient art form for the first time! In this book, Japanese master artist Shozo Koike reveals the simple secrets of Sumi-e, offering step-by-step instructions with clear photographs and online video tutorials showing you how to paint 18 traditional subjects. Sumi-e is the meditative Japanese form of ink painting taught by Zen Buddhist monks to encourage mindfulness and an awareness of our surroundings. It uses only ink, water, a brush and paper to capture natural objects and landscapes in a vivid, spontaneous fashion. Koike begins with the basics—what to buy and how to prepare the ink in a traditional inkstone. Next, he shows you how to practice the 11 basic brushstrokes used for all Sumi-e paintings. The 19 traditional subjects taught in this book include: Flowers like orchids, chrysanthemums, camellias, roses and peonies Plants and fruits including bamboo, eggplants, grapes and chestnuts Animal figures including small birds, butterflies, chicks, crabs and goldfish Koike also explains the philosophy of Sumi-e, which emerges from the use of negative white space to enhance the painted forms. Readers will enter into a world not just of black and white, but of infinite shades of gray which are capable of evoking all the sensations of color using these techniques.
