Description : In this moving memoir, Robert J. Wagner opens his heart to share the romances, the drama and the humor of an incredible life. Working with studio mogul Darryl Zanuck, Wagner began to appear in a number of films alongside the most beautiful starlets - but his first love was Barbara Stanwyck, an actress twice his age. As his career blossomed, and after he separated from Stanwyck, he met the woman who would change his life forever, Natalie Wood. Their life together was cut tragically short, though, when Wood died after falling from their yacht. For the first time, Wagner writes about that tremendously painful time. After a serious bout with depression, he finally resurfaced and eventually married Jill St. John, who helped keep his family and his fractured heart together.

Description : The intent of this book is to offer a primer to any individual, family, village cooperative, NGO, state, federal funding agency, or corporation that wishes to introduce Porphyra (known as Nori in Japan) farming as a socio-economic development driving force. This effort is not intended to be a textbook on Porphyra biology but a reference tool for nori cultivation from the conchocelis culture system through blade harvest and primary processing. Our hope is to provide aquaculture extension agents a teaching guide for nori cultivation. This guide will provide step-by-step instruction for the assembly of a nori production system, care, maintenance, harvesting, and product preservation.

Description : Seabuckthorn is one promising plant that got into focus of public interest. It is the wide range of applications, it's ecological promising benefits and the social-economic effect that inspire people around the world to deal with Seabuckthorn. Actual developments shows a growing interest not only of directly involved persons but of public in general. Since 2003 every second year scientist, producers and growers and enthusiasts met at ISA – International Seabuckthorn Association conferences (the society was founded 2001 on Seabuckthorn Workshop in Delhi) to exchange information, establish new contacts and discuss the future of Seabuckthorn-world. Starting with a small heap of enthusiasts, the scientific community now includes several hundred active and certainly far more than a thousand of interested members. In October 2013 6th meeting of ISA was held in Potsdam, Germany. This booklet is to show a selection from the presented results, some outstanding poster and additional material given by various scientists to the authors. It is to encourage Seabuckthorn friends to intensive and faster to deal with the stated aim of this publication, with research on Seabuckthorn and technological-technical developments. Anyone who reads this book is welcome to send his posts and comments on it to the authors.

Description : Sea urchins are a major component of the world ocean. They are important ecologically and often greatly affect marine communities. They have an excellent fossil record and consequently are of interest to paleontologists. Research has increased in recent years stimulated first by a recognition of their ecological importance and then because of their economic importance. Scientists around the world are actively investigating their potential for aquaculture. This book is designed to provide a broad understanding of the biology and ecology of sea urchins. Synthetic chapters consider biology of sea urchins as a whole to give a broad view. The topics of these chapters include reproduction, metabolism, endocrinology, larval ecology, growth, digestion, carotenoids, disease and nutrition. Subsequent chapters consider the ecology of individual species that are of major importance ecologically and economically. These include species from Japan, New Zealand, Australia, Europe, North America, South America and Africa. * First comprehensive book devoted to the biology and ecology of sea urchins * NEW chapter on Nutrition of Sea Urchins and Ecology of Diadema * Brand NEW illustrations * Hot NEW topic: Immunology of the Sea Urchin * Chapters written by internationally recognized experts * Each chapter revised and updated from the first edition * Biological chapters include reproduction, endocrinology, carotenoids and disease * Ecological chapters include species of major economic interest for fisheries and aquaculture

Description : While sea cucumber is one of China's and Asia’s most prized seafoods, and aquaculture programs are being developed on a huge commercial scale, Chinese expertise and knowledge in this area has not been well disseminated worldwide. The Sea Cucumber Apostichopus japonicus is the first book to bridge this gap by compiling key information related to hatchery and aquaculture techniques, nutritional and medical values, markets, and trade flow of the number one sea cucumber species. It summarizes the historical and most recent developments in the trade and aquaculture of Apostichopus japonicus, as well as important aspects of its anatomy, population dynamics, reproduction, development, physiology, and biochemistry. With sea cucumber harvest and aquaculture booming worldwide, comprehensive knowledge of China’s technological breakthroughs in this rapidly expanding field is key. The Sea Cucumber Apostichopus japonicus is essential to understanding the cultural underpinnings of the insatiable market demands for sea cucumber and what drives sea cucumber trade. It also provides biological information and aquaculture techniques that can be adapted to other species, making it a valuable resource for researchers and practitioners involved in sea cucumber harvesting, aquaculture, and conservation. Explores the historical and current importance of Apostichopus japonicus in China, Japan, and the two Koreas Presents innovative production technologies in sea cucumber aquaculture Provides the latest scientific methods to maximize efficiency and production Includes important information on the design and operation of farms Discusses hot topics, current challenges, and future opportunities in aquaculture Highlights important advances in the study of sea cucumbers at the behavioral, cellular, and molecular levels

Description : Also called energy scavenging, energy harvesting captures, stores, and uses "clean" energy sources by employing interfaces, storage devices, and other units. Unlike conventional electric power generation systems, renewable energy harvesting does not use fossil fuels and the generation units can be decentralized, thereby significantly reducing transmission and distribution losses. But advanced technical methods must be developed to increase the efficiency of devices in harvesting energy from environmentally friendly, "green" resources and converting them into electrical energy. Recognizing this need, Energy Harvesting: Solar, Wind, and Ocean Energy Conversion Systems describes various energy harvesting technologies, different topologies, and many types of power electronic interfaces for stand-alone utilization or grid connection of energy harvesting applications. Along with providing all the necessary concepts and theoretical background, the authors develop simulation models throughout the text to build a practical understanding of system analysis and modeling. With a focus on solar energy, the first chapter discusses the I−V characteristics of photovoltaic (PV) systems, PV models and equivalent circuits, sun tracking systems, maximum power point tracking systems, shading effects, and power electronic interfaces for grid-connected and stand-alone PV systems. It also presents sizing criteria for applications and modern solar energy applications, including residential, vehicular, naval, and space applications. The next chapter reviews different types of wind turbines and electrical machines as well as various power electronic interfaces. After explaining the energy generation technologies, optimal operation principles, and possible utilization techniques of ocean tidal energy harvesting, the book explores near- and offshore approaches for harvesting the kinetic and potential energy of ocean waves. It also describes the required absorber, turbine, and generator types, along with the power electronic interfaces for grid connection and commercialized ocean wave energy conversion applications. The final chapter deals with closed, open, and hybrid-cycle ocean thermal energy conversion systems.
