Description : A European wide survey on the EDUCTRA (Education and Training in Health Informatics) Concerted Action, was commenced in 1992 under the auspices of the AIM (Advanced Informatics in Medicine in Europe) programme. This book consists of four parts. The first chapter reproduces the original EC Recommendation and outlines the concerted European efforts in education and training in health telematics made by the European Commission, DG XIII Health Telematics office. The second part provides the general guidelines for European curricula in health informatics as they were developed and elaborated by the members of the EDUCTRA Concerned Action (1992-1994). The third part of this volume entails the detailed descriptions and applications of curricula in health informatics in European states. The fourth part consists of a glossary of terms and acronyms used in current research and practice of health informatics. The work provides a comprehensive overview of the current needs in health informatics in Europe but also the necessary guidelines, materials, tools and applications for improving education and training within the near future. Readers: medicine and health care professionals, administrators, health professionals, teachers and trainers. "The work provides not only a comprehensive overview of the current needs in health informatics in Europe, but also the necessary guidelines, materials, tools and applications for improving education and training within the near future." Description : A more trusted environment for the management and use of health information would undoubtedly help to consolidate and accelerate the use of health informatics solutions as change mechanisms to drive the establishment and adoption of new models of care, as well as new technology-oriented healthcare processes. This book presents 35 papers from the Australian National Health Informatics Conference (HIC 2012), held in Sydney, Australia, in July and August 2012. The theme of the conference is 'Health Informatics - Building a Healthcare Future Through Trusted Information', and emphasises the importance of assuring the integrity and security of health data and communications. The papers range from deeply theoretical to intensely practical, and address many elements of contemporary health informatics research endeavours, as well as peripheral, but related topics.Australian research, developments and implementations are at the forefront of e-health, and are the focus of much international attention. The Federal Government has invested in the building of a National Broadband Network, lead implementation sites, telehealth delivery and personally controlled electronic health records (PCEHR), launched 30 days before the conference. This book will be of interest to clinicians, researchers, industry innovators and all those who share the desire to deliver better healthcare to all.

Description : The field of health informatics (or medical informatics as it is sometimes called) is still a relatively young one compared to other areas of biomedicine and the health sciences. Nevertheless, its impact on the quality and efficiency of healthcare is crucial. This second, extensively revised and updated edition of Health Informatics: An Overview includes new topics which address contemporary issues and challenges and shift the focus on the health problem space towards a computer perspective. An overview is provided of the health informatics discipline and the book is suitable for use as a basic text in both undergraduate and postgraduate curricula. Preparing students for practice as health professionals in any discipline, it deliberately avoids focusing on any one speciality. The publication is divided into six sections: an overview, basic concepts, applications supporting clinical practice, service delivery, management and clinical research and education. With contributions from many distinguished authors, this book is a valuable resource for healthcare professionals and students of health informatics alike.
