Description : It is summer in the Northwest town of Nine Mile Falls, and sixteen-year-old Ruby McQueen, ordinarily dubbed The Quiet Girl, finds herself hanging out with gorgeous, rich, thrill-seeking Travis Becker. But Ruby is in over her head, and finds she is risking more and more when she's with him. In an effort to keep Ruby occupied and mend her own broken heart, Ruby's mother Ann drags Ruby to the weekly book club she runs for seniors. At first Ruby can't imagine a more boring way to spend an afternoon, but she is soon charmed by the feisty group. When it is discovered that one of the group's own members is the subject of the tragic love story they are reading, Ann and Ruby ditch their respective obsessions to spearhead a reunion between the long-ago lovers. This lyrical, multi-generational story of love, loss, and redemption speaks to everyone who has ever been in love--and lived to tell the tale.
Description : "Living well is the best revenge..." Well, maybe. But when it came to a woman scorned — not to mention two women scorned — maybe revenge was the best revenge. Thus when Joan Hoffman and Liz Savoie, both systematically dumped by the men they thought they loved, worked out side by side at the gym one fine day, they formulated a plan. A club, if you will. Why not go after each other's husbands? See them. Seduce them. And drop them.... The plan was simple. The reality, however, was complicated by pregnant mistresses, embittered new wives, surly grown children — and then one of the exes went missing. And the members of the Payback Club were in for it now: Would they get even? Would they get everything? Or would they get twenty years to life?

Description : Investigating her family history helps a teenager heal after a brutal attack. Olivia, 17, becomes the victim of a rape by someone she knows on her way home from school. Unwilling to face her classmates, she turns to her extended family while she heals, listening to stones about their journeys from Poland in the late 19th century. Her grandmother's story touches her deeply. She hears about Albert and Sara, who leave for America just one step ahead of revenue agents; Peter and Ursula, who dream of a land without oppression; and Francis and Anna, who emigrate rather than endure rule by the Russians, even though Anna was forced to travel alone. Listening to their stories brings strength to Olivia, who learns of their courage in creating new lives. Set in the 1960s, the novel also highlights the history of Poland in the 1800s, when it existed mainly in the minds of its people because the country did not exist from 1795 to 1918. Without a homeland to call their own, immigrants to the United States had to claim Germany, Russia or Austria as their native country, and more than a million did so in that timeframe. Like Olivia's ancestors, they found community in neighborhoods and Roman Catholic churches that spoke their language and followed Polish customs. Journey to Polonia echoes the author's own family history of immigrants and will resonate with anyone who has taken a chance on a better way of life.
Description : Writing has taken over my life.. in a good way. My thoughts continually are geared towards my next song. Sometimes I get a few lines in my head when I am driving and I have to pull over the car and write them down! No matter where I am, I get the urge to write. I could be talking to a neighbor, or be in the middle of mass at church and a word or phrase will pop into my head and whoa! -a new song is born! More than anything I love, love, love, the peace of mind songwriting allows me to have. Most of my lyrics take me 15 to 30 minutes to write. There was a time when I was writing 6-8 lyrics in a day. Sometimes I would sit there and stare at my pencil asking why did you stop? I swear at times the pencil kept moving like I wasnt even thinking of what to write. This is my first edition. I hope to continue with future editions as I am still writing new songs everyday. Someday I hope to put my lyrics to my own music and I recently started taking piano lessons. Hey, we all know life is a learning process; a learning curve, we need to experience the turns with the ride! I wish you all success with this book and look forward to seeing some of you with me when it comes to award times!
