The rapidly approaching battle between Dark and Light threatens to destroy mankind in this action-packed new series from New York Times bestselling author L.A. Banks. Celeste Jackson never had much hope for the future—and certainly never imagined that she would be living in an abandoned warehouse in Philadelphia with her magnificent protector Azrael, the angel of death, and a fierce battalion of warrior angels. But although her powers have bestowed the angels with the freedom to return to the Light or stay within the mortal realm, they need her more than ever. Celeste is one of the few remaining half-human, half-angel Remnant, with a unique ability to locate others of her kind. The search leads Azrael and his celestial brothers to Egypt to recover a powerful relic that can raise an army of bloodthirsty fallen if it falls into the wrong hands. It is a relic the dark angel Asmodeus will do anything to possess—and his quest puts Celeste in mortal danger. Soon Azrael faces an impossible decision: Can he surrender the woman who has become his salvation . . . or will he save her and allow all of humanity to perish?

New York Times bestseller Amy Tintera’s YA fantasy trilogy blends the romance of Kiera Cass’s Selection series and the epic stakes of Victoria Aveyard’s Red Queen in a story of revenge, adventure, and unexpected love. Emelina Flores has nothing. Her home in Ruina has been ravaged by war; her parents were killed and her sister was kidnapped. Even though Em is only a useless Ruined—completely lacking any magic—she is determined to get revenge. Her plan is simple: She will infiltrate the enemy’s kingdom, posing as the crown prince’s betrothed. She will lead an ambush. She will kill the king and everything he holds dear, including his son. The closer Em gets to the prince, though, the more she questions her mission. Her rage-filled heart begins to soften. But with her life—and her family—on the line, love could be Em’s deadliest mistake.

This reading of 2 Samuel continues the analysis of the books of Samuel begun in Samuel and the Deuteronomist. The figure of David drawn in 2 Samuel both dominates the story and provides a major challenge to readers who would view the larger narrative as a unified historiography composed by sophisticated authors and editors. The fates of Saul and David in 1-2 Samuel seem to cohere only with great difficulty, and David's own story appears to many to be a pastiche of earlier sources. Polzin's provocative new reading of 2 Samuel makes a strong case for a complex yet coherent picture of the monarchy within Israelite theology. Using the insights of Mikhail Bakhtin and other modern scholars, Polzin argues that the composition of the Deuteronomic History was a major step in the development of an important genre in world literature, and that the books of Samuel are an excellent example of the genius of ancient Israelite narrative.

As you study the book of Philippians it's really about nothing, and everything at the same time. You will discover many new truths that will help you to grow in joy through our Lord. The Apostle Paul tends to intimidate even the most mature believers yet Paul chose to live his life joyfully. Despite his troubles, and Paul certainly had plenty of them, he was able to say, "My joy knows no bounds." It is important to remember that Paul wrote this short epistle while in prison. He had been illegally arrested, beaten, and put in chains. It's hard to tell by his attitude, though! While he could easily have thought, "life isn't fair," he chose to have joy! We all have times when life doesn't seem fair or seems especially cruel. How do you respond in those times? Learn how to respond with A Joy that is Real! Features and Benefits A relevant, straightforward study of the book of Philippians as it applies to life today. Helps the reader gain motivation and strength to truly make positive life changes. Helps the reader enter a more joyful relationship with the Lord, realizing the liberty and power that comes through resting in the Lord.
