Description : Our identity can either cause us to curl up in a corner, feeling worthless and rejected, or call us to step out in bold, courageous faith to do “that thing” we long to accomplish. While “that thing” shouldn't define us, neither should fear or insecurity. We need to find our identity — how we define ourselves — in what God has to say about us. When we understand His truth, we can make decisions that enable us to accomplish “that thing” with a godly purpose. Maybe God's plans include a wildly magnificent rescue, where He swoops in, catches us in the palm of His hands, and transports us to an entirely new place. He fills our lives with amazing opportunities — ones that we would have missed if the course had stayed the same.Together, we're going to look at what we believe about ourselves in light of Biblical truth! We're going to consider what God says about who we are and how we're impacted by what others have to say about us. And we're going to discover how we can live in the freedom found when we embrace our identity in Christ. That's the journey to freedom, perfectly put together for teenage girls to embark upon with their moms, mentors, or youth leaders! With four short chapters filled with relevant stories and thought-provoking questions, girls will discover they are not alone in their struggles and fears. The companion leader guide is packed with additional questions, activity ideas, and links to online resources, making this a totally simple Bible study for teen girls that can be led by any woman passionate about impacting the next generation.

Description : Although Ephesians is one of the New Testament's shortest in terms of word count -- only 6 chapters and 155 verses -- it is perhaps its most applicable to today's culture. In addition to the divine beauty and power we find in Ephesians, this epistle also provides Paul's most direct address about the life that emerges from a disciple of Jesus. In this epistle Paul conveys his pastoral heart for the Ephesian believers by focusing upon who they are in Christ as it relates to their struggles, their new life, community, pursuits of unity and holiness, and how to engage life's challenges. Perhaps the most contemporary book in the New Testament, Ephesians and this study by Tony Merida offers very practical answers to basic questions about the Christian life and our identity in Christ. This study will help students better understand the importance of finding identity in Christ, and will help students better understand the relationship between our spiritual adoption and our daily lifestyle. Member Workbook includes a small-group experience for 6 small-group sessions, individual study opportunities for each day of the week, applicable Scripture, "How To Use This Study," and a group discussion guide. Back matter includes a leader guide that helps leaders navigate the content while developing better practices for small group leadership. Description : Identity: My Life of Faith Bible Study Kit includes a Bible Study Book and DVD with six short teaching videos, promotional videos, and promotional tools such as PowerPoint(R) slides, web banners, and leader articles. Kit also includes leader's guide with commentary. This six-session study supplies insights in response to the important question, "Who are you?" People define themselves by their role in a family, the work they do, their family history, or their interests and passions. For followers of Jesus, identity is wrapped up in who Jesus is--and His lordship over our lives. Every other facet of life--who we are and what we do--begins and ends with Jesus. As believers, we never lose our uniqueness in our various roles, but those roles are transformed by our life of faith--our true, defining identity. Following Christ means following Him to the cross and dying to self. Believers set aside self-interests, often going out of our way to help others. This is because spiritual growth is integrally tied to relationships between believers and serving others. Service to others will become second nature to a mature believer. This may require stepping out of your comfort zone, but it is one of the most effective ways to bring the message of Christ to others. No matter what cultural or even physical differences there may be between believers, we become closer as the family of God when we serve one another. Believers fuel the spiritual growth of others when we love and treat others as we would Jesus. When believers carry out our family roles as commanded by God, we strengthen our families. And, how we serve our families, carry out our work, and live out our faith is a strong, consistent witness of our relationship to Jesus Christ. Session titles and Scriptures: 1. Life in Christ (Luke 9:18-26) 2. Life in the Church (1 Peter 4:7-11) 3. Life at Home (Ephesians 5:22-28; 6:1-3) 4. Life at Work (Colossians 3:22-4:1) 5. Life in the Community (Matthew 25:34-40) 6. Life on Mission (1 Corinthians 9:19-27) Kit Includes: - Bible Study Book - 1 DVD-ROM Features: - Teaching videos - Biblically rooted and gospel-centered content - Leader material (guides to questions with optional questions and activities, general leadership, etc.) - Life application-based, topical studies - Streamlined experience - Commentary and word study - Leadership articles available in the Leader Kit - Sermon outlines available at http: //blog.lifeway.com/biblestudiesforlife/pastors/ Benefits: - Understand that "dying to self" can mean setting aside self-interests and allowing Christ in you to serve others. - See how embracing service to others can become second nature to mature believers. - Strengthen your witness. - Develop stronger relationships with other believers. - Apply the truth that real meaning and lasting purpose result from grounding your life in Christ. - Learn that serving the body of Christ means serving the church. - See how love and hospitality grow from acts of service. - Get biblical insight for your life...today. - Develop leaders to be fearless and unashamed to serve Christ. - See that self-discipline and self-denial result from stepping into the shoes of others to share Christ.

Description : WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A CHRISTIAN THE WAY FIRST-CENTURY BELIEVERS DEFINED IT? As followers of Jesus, we call ourselves “Christians,” but the fact is this word only appears three times in the Bible. In the New Testament, you’ll find a host of terms that identify the followers of Jesus, but there is one metaphor used more frequently than any other. Slave. That’s right. The first Christians, having been galvanized by the words of Jesus, gave up everything and called themselves slaves of Christ. Now you can learn why this word best described early Christ-followers—and you’ll see how an understanding of this truth changes the way to follow Him now. This discovery will unveil the riches of your salvation in a radically new way. Now you or your group can use this study guide to drill down through each major concept in Dr. John MacArthur’s remarkable book Slave: REWIND. Look again at the important passages. RETHINK. Check all the angles. REFLECT. Consider how it affects you. REACT. Change your life. The gospel is not simply an invitation to become Christ’s associate or friend—it is a mandate to become His slave. Endorsements: “John MacArthur expertly and lucidly explains that Jesus frees us from bondage into a royal slavery that we might be His possession. Those who would be His children must, paradoxically, be willing to be His slaves.” —DR. R.C. SPROUL “In this new book, John MacArthur presents a powerfully riveting and truly eye-opening look at our relationship to the Lord Jesus. Want to rise to a new level of trust and confidence in your Master? Then this is the book for you!” —JONI EARECKSON TADA, Joni and Friends International Disability Center “Dr. John MacArthur’s teaching on ‘slavery’ resonates in the deepest recesses of my ‘inner-man’. As an African-American pastor, I have been there. That is why the thought of someone writing about slavery as being a ‘God-send’ was the most ludicrous, unconscionable thing that I could have ever imagined . . . until I read this book. Now I see that becoming a slave is a biblical command, completely redefining the idea of freedom in Christ. I don’t want to simply be a ‘follower’ or even just a ‘servant’ . . . but a ‘slave’.” —THE REV. DR. DALLAS H. WILSON, JR., Vicar, St. John’s Episcopal Chapel, Charleston, South Carolina

Description : This study demonstrates the importance of including narrative ethics in a construction of Old Testament ethics. The social identity approach is used as a lens through which to understand and derive ethics. This approach highlights the social emphases of a biblical text, and consequently assists in understanding a text s original ethical message. The book of Ruth is used as a test case, employing a social identity approach for understanding the narrative, but also to model the approach so that it can be implemented more widely in study of the Old Testament and narrative ethics. Each of the protagonists in the book of Ruth is examined in regards to their personal and social self-components. This study reveals that the narrative functions to shape or reinforce the identity of an ancient Israelite implied reader. A social identity approach can also highlight the social processes within a society. The social processes taking place in the Monarchic and Persian Periods are discussed, and it is found that the social emphases of the book of Ruth most closely correspond to the social undercurrents of the Persian Period."

Description : When you said yes to Jesus, you immediately became a living soul. You were reborn as a new creation but as a baby. The process of Christianity then is that through knowledge, faith and practice we come into maturity. When you said yes to Jesus, you took on His power, authority, and identity (your real/true/authentic identity). This book examines some of the foundational principles that we can begin to apply to our lives immediately. While it is designed for new believers, it is also for most Christians who got stuck at the baby stage due to indoctrination. It is time for believers to start living in the reality of who we are in Christ. Our Identity in Christ has been restored and revealed; it is time to initiate.
