Description : The rise of China as a superpower and of Chinese Christians as vital members of the global church mean that world Christianity would be a dynamic transformation and bountiful blessing to the world by engaging with Chinese biblical interpretations among global theologies. This book, a twentieth-anniversary revised and expanded edition, includes studies that range from exploration of the philosophical structure of Eastern culture to present-day sociopolitical realities in Malaysia and China--all in support of cross-cultural methods of reading the Bible culturally and reading the cultures biblically.

Description : The impulse to publish these sermons came to me after I had successfully published my book, For Our Age of Anxiety, based on the Sermon on the Mount. All of these sermons were first written and preached while I was pastor of the Seven Hills Baptist Church in Owensboro, Kentucky where I served for thirty-four years. As I considered the idea of publishing a follow up book of sermons from the remaining chapters of Matthew, I went to my files and began the process of selecting the sermons to be included. After I had selected these sermons, I began to see that they could be put together under the theme of a portrait of Jesus. This book features sermons that focus on the early days of the ministry of Jesus particularly as they related to the ministry of John the Baptist. They also shed some light on the temptations of Jesus in the desert, on the call of those who would be his first disciples, and what is involved in being a disciple of Jesus then and now. Some of the sermons are based on the miracles of Jesus, thus revealing the compassion of Jesus. These sermons also deal with the idea of the Kingdom of God, showing some of the principles and characteristics of the Kingdom. The last two sermons are about the person of Jesus. It is my hope that these sermons will indeed help the reader to draw his or her own mental and spiritual portrait of Jesus.

Description : A highly regarded expert on Jewish apocalyptic texts, John J. Collins has written extensively on the subject. Nineteen of his essays written over the last fifteen years, including several previously unpublished contributions, are brought together for the first time in Apocalypse, Prophecy, and Pseudepigraphy. After an introductory essay that revisits the problem of defining Apocalypse as a literary genre, Collins deals with a number of different topics, including the relationship between apocalypse and prophecy and the troubling ethical issues raised by apocalyptic texts. Collins also examines several specific examples to show the themes and variation present in the genre. Organized in five sections, these thematic essays complement and enrich Collinss well-known bookThe Apocalyptic Imagination.

Description : Contemporary biblical scholarship has reached an impasse. The various programs for bridging the gap between the ancient texts and their contemporary theological and ethical appropriation are often unsatisfactory at best and at worst even suspect in their results. We need an effective way to cross the bridge ... or a new bridge. Ronald Farmer suggests that a "process hermeneutic" holds promise of moving biblical interpretation beyond the current impasse. This is the first comprehensive introduction to a process hermeneutic. It is not, however, merely theoretical discussion, but moves from the side of biblical scholarship to develop a solid methodology for bridging the gap between text and life. Farmer applies his process hermeneutic to a difficult textRevelation 4-5 - and demonstrates this promising method in a piece of solid, responsible, and instructive interpretation.

Description : Unlike most other commentaries on the Book of Revelation, Not Your Grandmother's Book of Revelation presents Scripture to dispel the many misinterpretations that have been perpetuated for the last one hundred years. Many of those misinterpretations have a foundation from the book Dispensational Truths by Baptist Pastor and Biblical scholar Charles Larkin, which was published in 1918. In addition to the influence of Mr. Larkin's book, many misinterpretations result from the false belief that the Book of Revelation is written in chronological order and that all of the events shown to John will occur during the final seven years, Daniel's seventieth week. In this book, Scripture is presented that positively establishes that the Revelation of Christ as recorded by John is written in the order that the events were shown to John, not chronologically; that the events of the vision, "the events that shall be hereafter" (Revelation 1:19), began occurring during the second and third century after the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ; that the first three and a half years after the signing of the peace agreement between Israel and "many" will be a peaceful time during which Israel will build the third Temple; the final three and a half years, the Great Tribulation, is the pouring out of the wrath of Satan, not the wrath of God; and that Jesus told the apostles that the First Resurrection, the "Rapture" does not occur until "immediately after the tribulation" (Matthew 24:29). It will be shown that America is in the Book of Revelation. A detailed description of the Antichrist, False Prophet, one-world government "Beast," and "mark of the Beast" are presented, as is a synopsis of all chapters and the prophecies of Daniel. Finally, a timeline of the events of the vision is presented.

Description : The Book of Revelation. The Apocalypse. Words that often call to mind bizarre creatures, strange seals, dreadful plagues, and a slew of other mystifying symbols. Most of us approach this last book of the Bible with forebodings rather than hope. To us John?s vision seems more like a nightmare. But the elderly apostle begins with a statement that doesn?t seem to fit the rest of the book: ?The revelation of Jesus Christ.? Apparently he intends to unveil something tremendously important about Jesus. Something life-changing. Something we can?t afford to miss.Larry Lichtenwalter explores a side of Revelation seldom portrayed: Christ?s passionate love for humanity. This recurring theme subtly appears in the imagery and symbolism throughout John?s vision. The slain Lamb. The divine protective sealing. The blood-bleached-white robes. The heart-wrenching prayer of the saints. Without Christ?s love, these scenes and symbols would mean nothing.Ultimately John?s vision reveals the extraordinary love of our Savior for His rebellious, undeserving children?and the incredible reasons we can love Him in return.

Description : "A revelation of Jesus Christ" Thus begins a candidate for the most misunderstood literary creation in human history. This book, with its vivid imagery, but written in a little used literary form, is intended for the support and comfort of the followers of Jesus in their spiritual jpurney, especially during times of persecution. Written in poetic code, its glorious messages of comfort are hidden from the world and its alarmist profiteers. It is the grand climax of the Bible, a summary of the teachings of the 1st Century church. Once understood, the rich imagery opens easily to the bondservants of Jesus.

Description : The book of Revelation becomes more relevant every day, yet many avoid its pages due to the cryptic content. Being the only book of the Bible that promises a blessing to the one who reads and understands the message, one can surmise that the Author meant for the text to be grasped. Revelation sets itself apart by being a military scenario for the final redemption of the earth. Since it is a tactical and strategic plan, God saw fit to code it with idioms and synoptic phrases that will lead the reader to discover detail through events and prophesies found in the Old Testament. Like the parables, these coded messages were designed to blind the scoffer, yet enlighten the seeker. The Sand Table examines each verse of Revelation, then presents the content with simple explanations and references. It also explores the use of new technology to be wielded by political and global powers moving toward world conquest. In all their stratagem, God has a few maneuvers of His own.

Description : Jesus is alive! So why do we follow him like he’s not? Sometime during the centuries between Jesus’ time on earth and ours, we started to believe that living vicariously through the ancient disciples was the closest we could ever get to being discipled by Jesus. But Jesus promised to never leave us or forsake us. He is alive, and because of his great love for each of us, Jesus is ready, willing, and able to do for us what he did for the twelve. Robert Gelinas dives into the Bible to show us the Jesus of the gospels, and the Jesus who is alive and yearning to disciple each one of us today. Isn’t it time we allowed ourselves to be discipled by Jesus?

Description : Here professor of Church history Dr. James Papandrea gathers in one place all that is known about the afterlife — drawn from the teachings of Jesus, the Apostles, the Church Fathers, and the Church’s Magisterium — affording, for the first time ever, a complete, authoritative, detailed portrait of the state of souls after death and the realms we enter. The following are among the many questions he answers: --If, as St. Paul says, “flesh and blood cannot inherit the Kingdom of God,” how can our bodies enter Heaven? --After death but before the final resurrection, are we simply unconscious? --What is our resurrection like? (And does it differ from Jesus’ Resurrection?) --Are ghosts real? (You’ll be surprised at what the Church Fathers have to say.) --What is the difference between Heaven and Paradise? --Which of our parts will accompany us to Heaven (and which must be left behind)? --In Heaven, do we still eat and drink? --If, as Jesus says, there’s no marrying in heaven, are we still male and female there? --After our resurrection, will we, like Jesus, be able to pass through matter? --And many more fascinating questions answered!

Description : Evangelists must be careful to maintain a delicate balance. What devout Christian does not long to see sinners converted and brought into the Church? It is hard to imagine a person who has been redeemed from the power and penalty of sin, not desiring for other needy people to come to same salvation. However, it is possible for sincere Christians to be so zealous about soul-winning that they virtually attempt to force sinners to embrace Jesus Christ as Savior. In contrast, there are Christians who have been so discouraged by soul-winning failures that they have given up trying, and are determined to let God save who He will without their help. Both of these positions are out of balance and result in failure. What does God say about evangelism? What part does He play? What does He expect His people to do? The Bible records many wonderful invitations from God to needy people. These invitations offer insight into God's plans and purposes. The great invitations of the Bible demonstrate the great grace of God who offers them.

Description : Book Four of the science fiction space opera series, The Revelation of Brian A. Pearlmitter, takes the story in an entirely new - and entirely unexpected - direction. While this book covers only 5 days in the life of Roger, Bess, Jane and the other members of the Connection, it serves as both an ending and a beginning, not only the story, but for each of the main characters as well. When the alien that calls himself Brian A. Pearlmitter reveals the design of the device that the team must build, they realize that they have to dedicate their remaining time to the singular purpose of creating something so difficult and dangerous, that it could cost one of the team members their life. They realize that their time of discovering the wonders of the Revelation is over. Soon, they must begin the task of actually fulfilling their purpose on earth. They know it won't be easy, but even though there may be danger, they feel a shared sense of optimism; finally, they know their purpose and have faith that they will be able to accomplish it. They are eager to get started on what comes next. But other things are happening, unknown to anyone in the group. There is an evil thing in their inner circle and none of them are aware of it. Book Four: The Celebration provides the most shocking and the most unexpected events of the entire story arc.
