Description : Situated in the years leading up to the overthrow of Judah by the Babylonians, Jeremiah's prophesies are set against a tense atmosphere of threat and invasion. Strongly warning of God's judgment and the nation's imminent catastrophe, Jeremiah lost credibility amongst his contemporaries as the years progressed, but the length of his book and the duration of his ministry establishes him as a major figure in the Old Testament. The fulfilment of his prophecies in later events of the Bible reassert the truth of his words and his speeches and prayers depict a God whose anger is a passionate response to the depths of love he feels for his people. Using personal anecdote, a witty and lively style, and drawing on his considerable theological knowledge, John Goldingay takes us deep into the unfolding story of the Old Testament.

Description : Could an ancient prophet hold a present key that will reveal the future? Jeremiah was an Old Testament voice, but he still speaks to our day. Alone and living in a time of chaos, he was a prophet and Levitical priest whose fellow priests and prophets wanted him dead. In fact, everyone wanted him dead--the political leaders, his neighbors, and even his family. At twenty-three years old Jeremiah was told to speak truth to power and not to worry what the consequences may be. God told him that people love to praise the Lord but refuse to do what He says. In spite of the judgments cascading upon the heads of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Lord promised a new covenant with Israel and Judah that would revolutionize their walk with Him. In Decoding the Prophet Jeremiah you will discover the following: The warnings from God in Jeremiah's day are for our generation as well. Even when you feel betrayed by everyone, there is still hope. God keeps His covenant and will never leave you or forsake you. This book is a clarion call to all believers. We need to see the bigger picture: it is not about us but about God's heart and God's kingdom. God is looking for warriors who are about advancing His kingdom by storming the gates of hell and setting His sons and daughters free from the clutches of the greatest narcissist of all time. Mark Biltz unpacks two books of the Bible written by the prophet Jeremiah: the Book of Lamentations and the Book of Jeremiah. Biltz has uncovered fascinating Hebraic codes within Lamentations, making this a truly unique message for readers. This book will encourage you to persevere in your faith despite cultural shifts and pressures, much like what the prophet Jeremiah did.

Description : The Word Biblical Commentary delivers the best in biblical scholarship, from the leading scholars of our day who share a commitment to Scripture as divine revelation. This series emphasizes a thorough analysis of textual, linguistic, structural, and theological evidence. The result is judicious and balanced insight into the meanings of the text in the framework of biblical theology. These widely acclaimed commentaries serve as exceptional resources for the professional theologian and instructor, the seminary or university student, the working minister, and everyone concerned with building theological understanding from a solid base of biblical scholarship. Overview of Commentary Organization Introduction—covers issues pertaining to the whole book, including context, date, authorship, composition, interpretive issues, purpose, and theology. Each section of the commentary includes: Pericope Bibliography—a helpful resource containing the most important works that pertain to each particular pericope. Translation—the author’s own translation of the biblical text, reflecting the end result of exegesis and attending to Hebrew and Greek idiomatic usage of words, phrases, and tenses, yet in reasonably good English. Notes—the author’s notes to the translation that address any textual variants, grammatical forms, syntactical constructions, basic meanings of words, and problems of translation. Form/Structure/Setting—a discussion of redaction, genre, sources, and tradition as they concern the origin of the pericope, its canonical form, and its relation to the biblical and extra-biblical contexts in order to illuminate the structure and character of the pericope. Rhetorical or compositional features important to understanding the passage are also introduced here. Comment—verse-by-verse interpretation of the text and dialogue with other interpreters, engaging with current opinion and scholarly research. Explanation—brings together all the results of the discussion in previous sections to expose the meaning and intention of the text at several levels: (1) within the context of the book itself; (2) its meaning in the OT or NT; (3) its place in the entire canon; (4) theological relevance to broader OT or NT issues. General Bibliography—occurring at the end of each volume, this extensive bibliographycontains all sources used anywhere in the commentary.

Description : This book seeks to place before beginning students and general readers a representative discussion of material contained in the biblical book of Jeremiah. It is written for those who may never look into a Jeremiah commentary or read a scholarly work on one who arguably stands as the greatest of ancient Israel's prophets. My hope is that these twenty essays can be read with profit by beginning students, adults in Bible study classes, and people anywhere who simply want an introduction to Jeremiah and the book bearing his name. Hopefully this will generate interest, not only in Jeremiah, but in all the Hebrew prophets, who are without parallel in the ancient world, and who define the office of prophet up to the present day. ""Jack Lundbom has long since established himself as a foremost interpreter of Jeremiah, capable of a rich flow of technical erudition. . . . He is a reliable interpreter who invites the reader into the key issues and claims of the text. This book is a chapter-by-chapter exposition with a conclusion that reflects on the scribal formation of the book of Jeremiah. Lundbom shows the reader the compelling ways in which this ancient tradition merits our continuing attention."" --Walter Brueggemann, Columbia Theological Seminary ""A condensation of a lifetime of research and study . . . by one of the world's leading Jeremiah authorities. First-rate scholarship clearly and concisely presented, and readily accessible to the ordinary but earnest Bible student."" --Craig E. Anderson, Retired Pastor/Associate Superintendent, Evangelical Covenant Church ""Jack Lundbom's mastery of Jeremiah scholarship is presented in this book. He has skillfully distilled the book of Jeremiah into twenty thematic essays . . . in a manner accessible to beginning students and general readers. This book is for everyone who wants to learn about Jeremiah as one of the truly great prophets in ancient Israel."" --Shirley Ma, student at Luther Seminary Jack R. Lundbom is currently Distinguished Visiting Scholar at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, Evanston, Illinois. He is author of Jeremiah: A Study in Ancient Hebrew Rhetoric (1975; 1997), a three-volume Jeremiah in the Anchor Bible Commentary series (1999; 2004), and a Deuteronomy commentary (2012).

Curious to know its origin he persuades Dandelion to take him back to the Dark Land so they can investigate further. Unfortunately, some powerful magic has been set in motion and Dandelion is drawn into the tapestry by an unknown force. Jeremiah, with his power to see reality, manages to open a gateway and embarks on a rescue. He is pulled through history, myth and legend until he is not entirely sure which is which. Description : The Holy Bible - Urim-Thummim Version, Volume III is a new translation of the Holy Bible and the first ever published in the original manuscript order. This work represents over 30 years of studying and comparing Bible translations but uses a new approach to making the Bible both very readable and accurate to the original languages at the same time. The King James Version and Young’s Literal Translation have been employed as the “base text.” For many this version will retain much of the literary style of those time honored works but all archaic language has been replaced with modern English. More importantly however, this version endeavors to be extremely accurate to the Hebrew definitions that comprise the original text. As a result new discoveries and a greater detail to the Biblical story has now been obtained.

Description : The Hebrew name of God in the holy writings is El Shaddai. “El” means “God Creator” and “Shaddai” means “Almighty.” El Shaddai is the name of God. Although we read other names given to God in the Old Testament, none of those names are the true name of God. Names such as Lord, Yahweh, and Jehovah were never spoken or pronounced in Israel in the entire Old Testament as their god. Before the Kingdom of Judah fell, El Shaddai warns the Judeans that their false prophets have changed his name with Baal, which is the same name as Lord. “And it shall be at that day,” says El Shaddai, “that you shall call Me Ishi (my beloved) and shall call Me no more Baali (my lord). For I will take away the names of the Baalim (lords) gods out of their mouth and they shall no more be mentioned by their name.”
