Description : Major changes in the emphases of education programs in Australian schools have occurred since 1986. The states and territories collaborated to define the general content for a national curriculum in eight 'key learning areas'. At the same time, they developed a common framework for describing what students have learned in relation to that curriculum. This report presents a comprehensive picture of the key people, decisions, events, problems and successes as the states and territories embarked on making the new 'outcomes- based' approach a reality for teachers and students. The book contains: a detailed chapter from each state and territory education system; results from a 1996 national survey of principals and teachers; commentary and insights collected from teachers during school visits; and, evidence and examples of 'best practice' implementation strategies.
