Description : The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is a competition for high school students. China has taken part in the IMO 21 times since 1985 and has won the top ranking for countries 14 times, with a multitude of golds for individual students. The six students China has sent every year were selected from 20 to 30 students among approximately 130 students who took part in the annual China Mathematical Competition during the winter months. This volume of comprises a collection of original problems with solutions that China used to train their Olympiad team in the years from 2009 to 2010. Mathematical Olympiad problems with solutions for the years 2002OCo2008 appear in an earlier volume, Mathematical Olympiad in China."

Description : This updated printing of the first edition of Colorado Mathematical Olympiad: the First Twenty Years and Further Explorations gives the interesting history of the competition as well as an outline of all the problems and solutions that have been created for the contest over the years. Many of the essay problems were inspired by Russian mathematical folklore and written to suit the young audience; for example, the 1989 Sugar problem was written in a pleasant Lewis Carroll-like story. Some other entertaining problems involve olde Victorian map colourings, King Authur and the knights of the round table, rooks in space, Santa Claus and his elves painting planes, football for 23, and even the Colorado Springs subway system.

Description : JEE (Main and Advanced) is one of the toughest examinations in the country in terms of the number of aspirants, the difficulty of the questions and the selection ratio. A student who prepares for JEE faces a tremendous amount of pressure and goes through tight schedules because he/she has to prepare for both Board Exams and JEE simultaneously. Also, infinite numbers of paid/free books, videos and other resources are readily available on both offline and online platforms these days. They usually put the student in a confused state. With many roadblocks and constraints ahead in the journey, a serious aspirant must know how to optimize his/her preparation and performance in the exams. In this book, we share insights and lessons from the experience we have gained over the past several years as successful JEE aspirants ourselves initially, then as IITians who got an opportunity to learn and interact with hundreds of other JEE toppers during our college days at IIT Madras and finally, as JEE Gurus, having successfully trained and guided hundreds of aspirants in the past. This is a must-read book for all students (and their parents alike) who are in high school (and above) and are dreaming to crack JEE (and similar exams) one day.

Description : Bicycle or Unicycle? is a collection of 105 mathematical puzzles whose defining characteristic is the surprise encountered in their solutions. Solvers will be surprised, even occasionally shocked, at those solutions. The problems unfold into levels of depth and generality very unusual in the types of problems seen in contests. In contrast to contest problems, these are problems meant to be savored; many solutions, all beautifully explained, lead to unanswered research questions. At the same time, the mathematics necessary to understand the problems and their solutions is all at the undergraduate level. The puzzles will, nonetheless, appeal to professionals as well as to students and, in fact, to anyone who finds delight in an unexpected discovery. These problems were selected from the Macalester College Problem of the Week archive. The Macalester tradition of a weekly problem was started by Joseph Konhauser in 1968. In 1993 Stan Wagon assumed problem-generating duties. A previous book written by Wagon, Konhauser, and Dan Velleman, Which Way Did the Bicycle Go?, gathered problems from the first twenty-five years of the archive. The title problem in that collection was inspired by an error in logic made by Sherlock Holmes, who attempted to determine the direction of a bicycle from the tracks of its wheels. Here the title problem asks whether a bicycle track can always be distinguished from a unicycle track. You'll be surprised by the answer.

Description : Important results surrounding the proof of Goldbach's ternary conjecture are presented in this book. Beginning with an historical perspective along with an overview of essential lemmas and theorems, this monograph moves on to a detailed proof of Vinogradov's theorem. The principles of the Hardy-Littlewood circle method are outlined and applied to Goldbach's ternary conjecture. New results due to H. Maier and the author on Vinogradov's theorem are proved under the assumption of the Riemann hypothesis. The final chapter discusses an approach to Goldbach's conjecture through theorems by L. G. Schnirelmann. This book concludes with an Appendix featuring a sketch of H. Helfgott's proof of Goldbach's ternary conjecture. The Appendix also presents some biographical remarks of mathematicians whose research has played a seminal role on the Goldbach ternary problem. The author's step-by-step approach makes this book accessible to those that have mastered classical number theory and fundamental notions of mathematical analysis. This book will be particularly useful to graduate students and mathematicians in analytic number theory, approximation theory as well as to researchers working on Goldbach's problem.
