Description : 26 years of rituals, sleepless nights, battle after battle are described in this personal account of a generation of life lived under the impairment of OCD. Fit within the context of childhood through parenthood, this deeply descriptive autobiography delves into the possible causes and definite effects of a painful illness that can only be lived, not imagined. Yet the reader is led to live this account through Mr. Dahlberg's vivid descriptions of a life still fully-lived in spite of the battles against this intimidating enemy. In the end, David Dahlberg shows it is possible to defeat this enemy, and yet to also express the vigilance required to keep it at bay. Neither "just" about OCD or a purely personal description, the symptoms, treatment and introspections of one man's OCD are here for all to follow. This is the Second Edition, which has been extensively re-written, focused, and brought up-to date. A friend of Mr. Dahlberg's joked that only someone with OCD would be compelled to re-write his own book about OCD. Nonetheless a good read has been re-worked into an even more compelling one. "One of my favorite things about reading a great book is when it pulls you in right away...I gave 'Life In A Whirlwind Of Numbers' a five star rating because the stories read well enough to be a great fictional novel...It is a real inspiration to read, especially because it is a true success story"--Janet Reeves, Reader Views, readerviews.com.

Description : In a career that is blossoming, Tamika Reynolds is one of many young American writers celebrating her first published book. Now, she presents a genre of poems on life, love, family and so much more. For her, writing has become something that she truly has a passion for. She wants to share her story with others on how she overcame some of her difficult life experiences. For her most inspiring, motivational poem, Tamika expresses the life of a young girl who endured so much pain but overcame all those hardships and became a success. She does this in two parts. "Doors," tells how the young girl finally received the one thing she wanted most in life, and how she finally was able to move past the discouragement and move forward with her life. "Recovery," shares how this now young woman has accomplished so much in her life after enduring so many hard struggles. This two part poem is a must read for anyone that is going through difficult times in life and is ready to give up. The main message drawn from the poems is don't let what people do to you affect your life. Put your faith and trust in God as this young girl did and God will give you a blessed life and help you get through all those struggles and tough times in your life. In "Love is Finally Here," after so many bad relationships, cheating men, this young woman has finally found her true soul mate, her perfect man. This man she has been waiting for all her life, the one she let God choose for her, the one who will soon be her husband. The first of its kind, Tamika has established herself as a writer who can passionately motivate and inspire through her writing. Each category reflects the changes she has endured as a young, black woman, mother, companion, friend, business owner, and poet. Indulging, bold and sexy A Whirlwind Life: Genres of Poetry will once again establish Tamika Reynolds as one of the nation's upcoming and remarkable poets. Congratulations to the 1st Annual Poetry Contest Winners 1st - The Storm 2nd - A New Beginnings of Friends 3rd - Angel from Above

Description : A detailed look at the charmed life and tragic death of one of Hollywood's earliest stars A vibrant and beloved Golden Age film comedienne who worked alongside the Marx Brothers, Laurel and Hardy, Ginger Rogers, Cary Grant, Clara Bow, and dozens of others, Thelma Todd was one of the rare actors to successfully cross over from silent films to "talkies." This authoritative new biography traces Todd's life and career, from a vivacious little girl to a young woman who became a reluctant beauty queen to her rapid rise as a Hollywood comedy star to her mysterious death at the age of 29. Increasingly disenchanted with the studio star system, Todd opened the successful Thelma Todd's Sidewalk Café, attracting adoring fans, tourists, and Hollywood celebrities. Life appeared blessed for the beautiful and outspoken Hollywood rebel. So the country was shocked when Todd was found dead by her housekeeper in a garage near the café. An inquest concluded that her death was accidental, caused by inhaling the car's exhaust fumes. In a thorough new investigation that draws on FBI documents, interviews, photographs, reports, and extortion notes—much of these not previously available to the public—author Michelle Morgan offers fresh evidence and conclusions about the circumstances surrounding Todd's death, proving what many people have long suspected, that Thelma had been murdered. The cast of suspects includes Thelma's Hollywood-director lover; her gangster ex-husband; assorted thugs who were pressuring her to install gaming tables in the room above her popular café; and a new, never-before-named mobster. Coinciding with the 80th anniversary of Todd's death, The Ice Cream Blonde is sure to interest any fan of Thelma Todd, Hollywood's Golden Age, or gripping real-life murder mysteries.

Description : The purpose of this study guide is to seek answers to questions such as how can we learn to live centred in God's loving presence, in a way that allows all our activity to flow from that centre? How can we experience this change of heart that will allow us to know God's presence with us in the midst of the busyness of our lives? The answers are taken from Scripture. We will listen as Jesus calls us to live with eyes wide open to what matters most in life, even as we entrust ourselves to God's care so we can live in the present, where God is with us, providing for us. We will hear the invitation to draw the strength we need for the day from God, the Source of all life. We will learn to open ourselves throughout the day to God as we seek God's wisdom, express our gratitude and begin to rest and rely more deeply in God 's presence with us. We will explore ways of conversing with God in the midst of the whirlwind of life and come to see our day's work as a labour of love for God and as the joyful service of kneeling before all others with Jesus.

Description : The new book "In Love with the Whirlwind"-"When God Takes Your Heart by Storm"-a true report of the author's pursuit of relationship with the Godhead: Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and God the Father. Susan Davis shares how God entered her life and how it was not ever the same again for her and her son. Davis' book is written to a generation that has strayed from God to other lovers-entertainment, career, and family and lost its way to its one true love. Davis wants people to think about what this life really means and what are we really supposed to be doing. She talks about life's toughest and deepest questions but does it in a light-hearted way. "I want people to see that God is real, wonderful, and waiting on us all to be in relationship with Him," shares author Susan Davis. "Because God is supernatural-when you get closer to Him you can't help but experience the supernatural and that is what happened to us." Davis playfully explores and examines issues that deals directly with the heart of Jesus, Holy Spirit, and the Father demonstrating that there is only one true life: through Christ. Everything else is a fraud. "In Love with the Whirlwind" is fun, playful, honest, real, and deep all at the same time. http://sites.advancedministry.com/lovethewhirlwind Author email: [email protected] Facebook: in love with the whirlwind *Become a facebook fan of In Love with the Whirlwind* Book Blog: http://lovethewhirlwind.wordpress.com/ Twitter: lovethewhirlwnd

Description : Let the Legends Preach celebrates the past and current legends of black preaching through preserving the sermons that they preached at the Annual E. K. Bailey Expository Preaching Conference. The twenty-four preachers honored in this book received the Living Legend Award for Excellence in Preaching on account of ministries that impacted hundreds of thousands of people across the nation and around the world. Not only does this book lift up preachers that are familiar to so many, names belonging to the great cloud of witnesses in black preaching over the last fifty years, but it also introduces a new generation of preachers to their powerful stories and homiletical wisdom. Each chapter offers readers short biographical sketches on the life and ministry of the preachers that were honored followed by the sermon that they preached or the lecture that they delivered at the annual conference.

Description : A recent survey of global CEOs found that leaders in every industry and in every part of the world are emerging from a period of retrenchment and moving towards a vision of sustained growth, and that innovation is the preferred path to achieving that growth. Innovation has regained its central place in corporate life. Much has been written about creativity and innovation. And there are plenty of books about corporate culture and innovation in organizations. What is lacking is a practical book that brings these ideas together. Riding the whirlwind brilliantly reconnects people, teams and organizations to create constant renewal of talent and motivation. Using hilarious illustrations of innovation and innovative cultures from Fawlty Towers and Monty Python’s Flying Circus, Riding the whirlwind is a blueprint for creating a culture of high-octane creativity and innovation.

Description : We all struggle at times to hold together the holiness and the love of God, and can fall into problems such as liberalism and universalism on the one hand, or legalism and moralism on the other. However, what David Wells calls God's 'holy-love' is right at the heart of the incarnation and cross of Jesus - and understanding how God's holiness is inextricably bound to his love is what sets apart Christian spirituality from other spiritualities, what characterizes authentic Christian worship, and what defines our life of service in the world. Building on years of research and teaching, Wells offers a remedy for evangelicalism's often superficial theology and weightless conception of God. He examines and offers solutions to two particular problems facing the contemporary church: the pressure to conform to cultural norms, and the danger of living in an age of constant distraction. This accessible, edifying and challenging volume helps us to cultivate a balanced vision of the meaning of God-centredness in our current context.

Description : Libraries are filled with volumes containing recipes for growing old gracefully. Most of them are based on mountains of research and statistics. Career correspondent and author Roy Rowan read many of these books, and found in them some good advice. Never Too Late is no such manual. It is simply one man’s views of the pleasures and potentials of old age based on a long life of adventure as a correspondent for the world’s leading magazines—and the lessons learned along the way from diverse groups of people, from the world’s most powerful leaders to some of the world’s most hapless individuals. Rowan interweaves quotes from experts in gerontology and other sage writers with his own experiences and insights. He addresses a spectrum of topics, including the subjectivity of the label “old,” the importance of optimism, and the fight to maintain independence as the years go by. He also encourages retirees to start a second career or activity, naming the Three E’s of Enthusiasm, Exertion, and Energy as the keys to pursuing a new passion.

Description : For years, I was a proud employee of General Motors. I loved my work as a Journeyman Electrician. Unfortunately, my work was transformed into a horror story when I was assigned to Pontiac Assembly Center. There, I was routinely bullied, harassed, and threatened by co-workers and supervisors. When I asked GM management for help, they responded by aligning themselves with my persecutors. I was threatened with physical violence, stalked, denied safety rights, forced to do work others were unwilling to do, and refused medical treatment. I was removed from a coveted job by a Superintendent, who cited my MS condition, blatantly ignoring rights afforded under ADA. I was called "Black Nigger Bitch". There were pictures posted about the plant, where I was depicted as "ROADKILL". KKK style nooses were hung in the plant. A General Foreman pressed his face close to mine and said, "I can't promise you you're going to live the next few minutes." I next turned to the justice system for help. When my case went before a Circuit Court Judge, he swiftly and willfully granted summary disposition judgments in GM's favor. Undaunted, I began my own investigation. In doing so, I discovered that 108 pages of my deposition had disappeared. I uncovered a letter from a GM executive threatening a union official who planned on helping me. My lawyer lied to me about having filed an appeal. Where is the justice when a court of law condones this as acceptable behavior in a civilized society? How can America hold itself out as a free and just society that other countries would choose to emulate? Should corporate entities such as GM be allowed to not only bend the law, but to break the law? How and why could such travesty have been allowed to occur?

Description : The Whirlwind is a telling but poignant social commentary on the sordid state of the Nigerian society. It is a window into the decadent underbelly of the higher institutions of learning where many youths are irredeemably and intractably enmeshed in social vices such as rape, suicide, drugs, sexual abuse, cultism and gangsterism. The play, which is structured into twenty-four movements, is progressively knitted together chronologically and suffused with suspense, pity and terror as its dominant literary devices. Biola, the protagonist in the play, is a product of parental negligence that never enjoys the love and the care of parents. Besides, Biola is introduced to sex very early in life by Aunty Sowa, the family's housemaid who plays the role of his mother. To find relevance, he joins Geoffrey's gang in the University that is notorious for rape, sex, alcoholism and intimidation of students. From there, his life spirals out of control as he becomes trapped in a whirlwind that almost ruins his life beyond redemption. This is a play that gives hope to the hopeless, strength to the weak, faith to the faithless, joy to the despondent and light to those who sit in the shadow of death. Solomon Edebor draws our attention, very clearly, to the law of sowing and reaping and also to the place of repentance, reconciliation, forgiveness, salvation and transformation. The playwright reassures us that the dry bones can live again and that there is hope for a tree if it is cut down. This is a must-read for everyone who has lost touch with reality and is contemplating giving up. In this modern play, our attention is also drawn to the intercourse between literature and medicine and its restorative and therapeutic benefits which make it a compelling drama of the twenty-first century. This is a narrative drama that thrives tremendously on the copious deployment of analepsis as one of its major theatrical aesthetics. Its non-linear plot is classical; its theme is Promethean; its message is Brechtian.

The oil fields of Iran need helicopters to ferry workers and administrators, and when the main US aviation company pulls out of Iran fearing what might come next, S-G Helicopters steps in to fill the void. Soon they realize that they, too, must leave or risk losing all their machines to whomever takes control of the country. The company risks bankruptcy if that happens—which would ruin Andrew Gallavan and reveal that the company is actually owned by a secret Hong Kong–based consortium: Noble House, controlled by the Struan family. Caught in between is his son, Scot, a pilot in Iran who must help save his father’s company, but also the other pilots and their families. In a risky move, the pilots concoct a plan to get their choppers out of Iran. But will they be able to escape a country crumbling around them before it’s too late? A rich panoply of characters brings to life the events of forty years ago, events that even now have ramifications throughout the Middle East and beyond. Fast-paced and full of action and intrigue, Whirlwind is an intricately plotted and detailed tale of war, love, and the ingenuity of the human spirit, told by James Clavell, the unparalleled master of historical fiction.
