Description : Solve business problems involving time-to-event and resulting probabilities by following the modeling tutorials in Business Survival Analysis Using SAS®: An Introduction to Lifetime Probabilities, the first book to be published in the field of business survival analysis! Survival analysis is a challenge. Books applying to health sciences exist, but nothing about survival applications for business has been available until now. Written for analysts, forecasters, econometricians, and modelers who work in marketing or credit risk and have little SAS modeling experience, Business Survival Analysis Using SAS® builds on a foundation of SAS code that works in any survival model and features numerous annotated graphs, coefficients, and statistics linked to real business situations and data sets. This guide also helps recent graduates who know the statistics but do not necessarily know how to apply them get up and running in their jobs. By example, it teaches the techniques while avoiding advanced theoretical underpinnings so that busy professionals can rapidly deliver a survival model to meet common business needs. From first principles, this book teaches survival analysis by highlighting its relevance to business cases. A pragmatic introduction to survival analysis models, it leads you through business examples that contextualize and motivate the statistical methods and SAS coding. Specifically, it illustrates how to build a time-to-next-purchase survival model in SAS® Enterprise Miner, and it relates each step to the underlying statistics and to Base SAS® and SAS/STAT® software. Following the many examples—from data preparation to validation to scoring new customers—you will learn to develop and apply survival analysis techniques to scenarios faced by companies in the financial services, insurance, telecommunication, and marketing industries, including the following scenarios: Time-to-next-purchase for marketing Employer turnover for human resources Small business portfolio macroeconometric stress tests for banks International Financial Reporting Standard (IFRS 9) lifetime probability of default for banks and building societies "Churn," or attrition, models for the telecommunications and insurance industries

Description : The long-awaited, comprehensive guide to practical credit risk modeling Credit Risk Analytics provides a targeted training guide for risk managers looking to efficiently build or validate in-house models for credit risk management. Combining theory with practice, this book walks you through the fundamentals of credit risk management and shows you how to implement these concepts using the SAS credit risk management program, with helpful code provided. Coverage includes data analysis and preprocessing, credit scoring; PD and LGD estimation and forecasting, low default portfolios, correlation modeling and estimation, validation, implementation of prudential regulation, stress testing of existing modeling concepts, and more, to provide a one-stop tutorial and reference for credit risk analytics. The companion website offers examples of both real and simulated credit portfolio data to help you more easily implement the concepts discussed, and the expert author team provides practical insight on this real-world intersection of finance, statistics, and analytics. SAS is the preferred software for credit risk modeling due to its functionality and ability to process large amounts of data. This book shows you how to exploit the capabilities of this high-powered package to create clean, accurate credit risk management models. Understand the general concepts of credit risk management Validate and stress-test existing models Access working examples based on both real and simulated data Learn useful code for implementing and validating models in SAS Despite the high demand for in-house models, there is little comprehensive training available; practitioners are left to comb through piece-meal resources, executive training courses, and consultancies to cobble together the information they need. This book ends the search by providing a comprehensive, focused resource backed by expert guidance. Credit Risk Analytics is the reference every risk manager needs to streamline the modeling process.

Description : ‘Billy is inspirational and always humble. A giant of a man!’ – Bear Grylls 'The most experienced Special Forces soldier in recent memory. The Hard Way is brutally brilliant.' – Tom Marcus, Number One bestselling author of Soldier Spy Billy Billingham grew up tough; a grim future ahead of him offering little respite from the hostile streets he walked. Leaving school at eleven years of age, the threat of borstal hanging over his head, running with gangs in Birmingham, and almost being killed in a knife fight eventually led to Billy discovering the British armed forces at sixteen years of age. It would be the making of him. Billingham would graduate from the Royal Marine cadets to enlisting with the Parachute Regiment in 1983, where he would serve with distinction as a Patrol Commander and expert sniper. In 1991 he took on an even bigger challenge – taking the SAS course – the fearsome and secretive elite special forces unit with a well-won reputation for excellence in operating in extreme and hazardous conditions. He excelled in this life, rising to the rank of sergeant major for the regiment, and undertaking dozens of classified and extremely dangerous missions. He would ultimately serve seventeen years with the SAS, serving in countless war zones, winning a commendation for bravery and being awarded the MBE. After leaving the army he would embrace the life of a bodyguard to Hollywood stars such as Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Sir Michael Caine, Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe, before being recruited as one of the lead instructors on SAS - Who Dares Wins for television. Billy is a highly-decorated veteran; with a reputation for excellence, honesty and integrity not only supporting his comrades Ant Middleton, Jason Fox and Ollie Ollerton, but equally intimidating and inspiring the contestants who take on the gruelling challenges each week. The Hard Way details Billy’s story thus far, but will also educate and enthral those wishing to seek a challenge and conquer it – the SAS way.

Critical Management Studies In The South African Context

Description : The purpose of this book is to establish the first formalised scholarly work on critical management studies (CMS) in the South African context. The book is a collection of seven chapters, six of which employ a conceptual methodology and one of which follows an interpretive paradigm employing qualitative methods of inquiry. CMS is a relatively young school of thought, arising in the early 1990s and still very much a peripheral movement within the academic discipline of management. South Africa has very little scholarship on CMS as precious few scholars work in this space. Furthermore, publication opportunities are virtually non-existent as CMS is virtually unknown in the South African community of management scholars. Thus, this book represents the first academic work on CMS published in South Africa, written and reviewed by scholars who are familiar with the field. The primary target readership would be management academics, but it could also be a useful reference for postgraduate students in management.
