Description : Amidst the confusion and doubt that the contemporary world casts on our Christian witness, a return to the Gospel brings clarity and a sure foundation. In the Gospel of Luke we find a model for the Church, a model equally valid for each generation. Well known for his teaching and preaching skills, Ivan Clutterbuck invites us to study the Gospel of Luke as a whole. Working through the text from start to finish we understand the full implications of how Jesus preached and organised his kingdom. In this Gospel guide we are provided with the latest balanced scholarship on Luke's writing in an accessible form. The last thirty years have seen a new concentration on the historical person of Jesus that has overturned much of the speculative biblical criticism of the past that seemed to undermine faith itself. Only by concentrating on the teaching and ministry of Jesus, so clearly set out by Luke, do we find the bedrock of the Christian message. Ivan Clutterbuck has been a priest of the Church of England for over sixty years. He has served both as an army and naval chaplain and has taught in several public schools. From 1966-74 he was Organising Secretary of the Church Union.

Description : Ravens argues that Luke's belief in God's restoration of Israel provides the key context for understanding Luke-Acts. His attitudes to Jews, his surveys of Israel's history and his interest in the Samaritans combine to suggest his wider, pre-Davidic, view of Israel-a view that becomes the pattern for the restored Israel under its Davidic king. Luke's belief leads him to present Christology and atonement in ways that cohere with Jewish hopes and to correct apparently anti-Jewish elements in Paul's letters and Matthew's Gospel. This theme also determines his account of the gentile mission and his pastoral concern for unity.

In his explosive, action-packed thriller series, Jack Mars takes readers on a wild-ride across America and the world. In THE FORGING OF LUKE STONE, when elite Delta Force soldier Luke Stone, 29, joins a secretive government agency, he is dispatched on the mission of a lifetime: a whirlwind race across Europe and the Mid-East to save the President’s daughter before she is beheaded by terrorists. Here, we see the forging of one of the world’s toughest—and most lethal—soldiers: Luke Stone. A 29 year old veteran who has seen enough battle to last a lifetime, Luke is tapped by the Special Response Team, a secretive new FBI agency (led by his mentor Don Morris) to tackle the most high-stake terrorism operations in the world. Luke, still haunted by his wartime past and newly married to an expecting Becca, is dispatched on a mission to Iraq, with his new partner Ed Newsam, to bring in a rogue American contractor. But what begins as a routine mission mushrooms into something much, much bigger. When the President’s teenage daughter, kidnapped in Europe, is ransomed by terrorists, Luke may be the only one in the world who can save her before it is too late. In the LUKE STONE THRILLER series, what begins it all is the theft of nuclear waste by jihadists from an unguarded New York City hospital. The police, in a frantic race against time, call in the FBI—and Luke Stone, head of an elite, secretive, department within the FBI, is the only man who can handle it. Luke realizes right away that the terrorists’ aim is to create a dirty bomb, that they seek a high-value target, and that they will hit it within 48 hours. Caught in a chase that pits the world’s most savvy government agents against its most sophisticated terrorists, Agent Stone peels back layer after layer. With Luke framed for the crime, his team threatened and his own family in danger, the stakes could not be higher. But as a former special forces commando, Luke has been in tough positions before, and he will not give up until he finds a way to stop them—using any means necessary. Twist follows twist as one man finds himself up against an army of obstacles and conspiracies, pushing even the limits of what he can handle—and culminating in a shocking climax. A political thriller with heart-pounding action, dramatic international settings, and non-stop suspense, THE FORGING OF LUKE STONE and the LUKE STONE THRILLER series will leave you turning pages late into the night.

Description : Henrichs-Tarasenkova argues against a long tradition of scholars about how best to represent Luke's Christology. When read against the backdrop of ancient ways of constructing personal identity, key texts in the Lukan narrative demonstrate that Luke indirectly characterizes Jesus as the one God of Israel together with YHWH. Henrichs-Tarasenkova employs a narrative approach that takes into consideration recent studies of narrative and history and enables her to construct characters of YHWH and Jesus within the Lukan narrative. She employs Richard Bauckham's concept of divine identity that she evaluates against her study of how one might speak of personal identity in the Greco-Roman world. She engages in close reading of key texts to demonstrate how Luke speaks of YHWH as God in order to demonstrate that Luke-Acts upholds a traditional Jewish view that only the God of Israel is the one living God and to eliminate false expectations for how Luke should speak of Jesus as God. This analysis establishes how Luke binds Jesus' identity to the divine identity of YHWH and concludes that the Lukan narrative, in fact, does portray Jesus as God when it shows that Jesus shares YHWH's divine identity.
