Study on Ground Moving Target Indication and Imaging Technique of Airborne SAR Book Excerpt:

Based on a detailed analysis of the signal model of the moving target, this thesis focuses on the theories and applications of ground moving target indicator (GMTI) and ground moving target imaging (GMTIm) algorithms in synthetic aperture radar/ ground moving target indicator (SAR/GMTI mode), wide-area surveillance ground moving target indication (WAS-GMTI) mode and frequency modulated continuous wave synthetic aperture radar (FMCW SAR) systems. The proposed algorithms can not only indicate and image fast-moving targets, but are also effective in the context of slow-moving target processing. The system design scheme combines the mechanical scanning mode and the airborne SAR system, while the azimuth moving target indication algorithm employs the additional range walk migration induced by FMCW SAR systems. In addition, the non-ideal errors that deteriorate the performance of GMTIm algorithms in real SAR data processing are discussed, and suitable compensation methods are provided.>

Moving Target Book Excerpt:

Moving Target offers a rigorous exploration of the practice of translating for the theatre. The twelve essays in the volume span a range of work from Eastern and Western Europe, Canada and the United States. For the first time, this book draws together existing translation theory with contemporary practice to shed light on a hitherto neglected aspect of the production process. How does the theatre translator mediate between source text, performance text and target audience? What happens when theatre is transposed from one culture to another? What are the obstacles to theatre translation, and what are the opportunities? Central to the debate throughout is the role of the translator in creating not only a linguistic text but also a performance text, as the contributors repeatedly demonstrate an illuminating sensibility to the demands and potential of theatre production. Impacting upon areas of (inter)cultural theory as well as theatre studies and translation studies, the result is a startling revelation of the joys, as well as the frustrations of the dramatic art of the translator for performance.

Moving Target Defense Book Excerpt:

Moving Target Defense: Creating Asymmetric Uncertainty for Cyber Threats was developed by a group of leading researchers. It describes the fundamental challenges facing the research community and identifies new promising solution paths. Moving Target Defense which is motivated by the asymmetric costs borne by cyber defenders takes an advantage afforded to attackers and reverses it to advantage defenders. Moving Target Defense is enabled by technical trends in recent years, including virtualization and workload migration on commodity systems, widespread and redundant network connectivity, instruction set and address space layout randomization, just-in-time compilers, among other techniques. However, many challenging research problems remain to be solved, such as the security of virtualization infrastructures, secure and resilient techniques to move systems within a virtualized environment, automatic diversification techniques, automated ways to dynamically change and manage the configurations of systems and networks, quantification of security improvement, potential degradation and more. Moving Target Defense: Creating Asymmetric Uncertainty for Cyber Threats is designed for advanced -level students and researchers focused on computer science, and as a secondary text book or reference. Professionals working in this field will also find this book valuable.

An Airborne Radar Technique for Moving target Detection Location and Tracking Book Excerpt:

A novel technique for detecting, locating, and tracking moving targets from an airborne radar platform is described and analyzed. The technique uses the generally dissimilar linear doppler frequency modulated signals from moving targets and stationary ground clutter. A matched filter processor is defined and its resolution and ambiguity properties studied as function processor parameters. Sub-clutter visibility of the processor is then determined. Two techniques for digitally implementing the processor are discussed and the computational efficiencies briefly analyzed. Finally, target angular position can be determined using phase monopulse. It is then shown that target velocity--both ground speed and target heading--can be determined from radar observables. (Author).

Moving Target Defense II Book Excerpt:

Our cyber defenses are static and are governed by lengthy processes, e.g., for testing and security patch deployment. Adversaries could plan their attacks carefully over time and launch attacks at cyber speeds at any given moment. We need a new class of defensive strategies that would force adversaries to continually engage in reconnaissance and re-planning of their cyber operations. One such strategy is to present adversaries with a moving target where the attack surface of a system keeps changing. Moving Target Defense II: Application of Game Theory and Adversarial Modeling includes contributions from world experts in the cyber security field. In the first volume of MTD, we presented MTD approaches based on software transformations, and MTD approaches based on network and software stack configurations. In this second volume of MTD, a group of leading researchers describe game theoretic, cyber maneuver, and software transformation approaches for constructing and analyzing MTD systems. Designed as a professional book for practitioners and researchers working in the cyber security field, advanced -level students and researchers focused on computer science will also find this book valuable as a secondary text book or reference.

Moving Target Defense for Distributed Systems Book Excerpt:

This book provides an overview of Moving Target Defense (MTD) and the importance of developing novel MTD schemes to protect distributed systems. It presents MTD-based research efforts to protect cloud data centers, along with network and security risk-aware approaches to place Virtual Machines (VM) in cloud data centers. These approaches include MTD-based network diversity models that enable an evaluation of the robustness of cloud data centers against potential zero-day attacks. Since these models can be used as a security metric the authors include different network configurations and policies, consider the similarity and dissimilarity of network resources, and account for minimum impact to maximum impact attacks. Also offered is a framework for determining the cost of MTD-based VM migration on cloud data centers. Designed for researchers and practitioners, Moving Target Defense for Distributed Systems enables readers to understand the potential of MTD capabilities. It enables defenders to change system or network behaviors, policies, and configurations automatically to keep potential attack surfaces protected. Advanced level students in computer science, especially those interested in networks and security, will benefit from this book.

Auditory and Visual Tracking of a Moving Target Book Excerpt:

A test of target tracking accuracy was conducted, comparing individual performances of auditory and visual tracking. Aiming and pointing responses were ompared for both tracking modalities and for approaching vs. departing target aspects. Comparison of mean auditory tracking location errors corrected (for acoustic lag) with mean visual tracking location errors were related to target-to-observer distance increased, where mean visual location errors remained constant. When both constant and variable errors were combined into a measure of total human error, the dispersion index, total auditory tracking error was found. (Author).

A Slow Moving Target the Lst of World War Ii Book Excerpt:

A SLOW MOVING TARGET, The LSTs Of World War II, is a historical novel that contains many authentic stories about the turmoil and hardships that the Amphibious Fleet endured during beach invasions in World War II. To enhance the military adversities, the story revolves around the personal lives of five young fictitious sailors who, in 1942, enlisted in the U.S. Navy to defend their country against the Axis. They come from different parts of America and meet in the same boot-camp at Bainbridge, Maryland. As a result of the difficulties they encounter in boot-camp and in the war they become life-long buddies. After boot-camp was completed they were transferred to the dreaded and perilous Amphibious fleet of LSTs (Landing Ship Tank), because the LST is truly a A Slow Moving Target having the reputation of a brief life during an invasion. In this historical novel each principle character in the book presents his own unique and unusual experiences. The main character of the novel is John Maroni, who attempts to keep the group together and to preserve their friendship throughout the war. They call themselves The Five Phibies. The Five Phibies are later split-up and are transferred to different LSTs which compelled them to fight in separate campaigns in both the Pacific and Atlantic theaters. They continued to communicate with one another via one central location in the States. They send their mail to John Maroni's kid sister, Angela, in Queens, New York, who rewrites the letters by relating their war experiences, their health, and anything new about their personal lives, but deliberately leaving out any unpleasant ordeals, then sending the letters on to the Phibies. Phibie No. 1 is John Maroni who was born in Queens, New York. Phibie No. 2 is Dan Bletcher born in Dover, New Jersey. Phibie No. 3 is Andre Robbier born in Chicago, Illinois. Phibie No. 4 is Rich Hienman born in Dallas, Texas. Phibie No. 5 is Bob Olsen born in Boston, Massachusetts. Understandably, most historical World War II novels are written around large fighting vessels such as aircraft carriers, battle ships, cruisers, destroyers, and submarines. Very little is written about the LST and their amphibious operations on beach landings of unloading troops and cargo because it isn't a glamorized fighting ship. The book provides many authentic LST battles which are depicted through the fictional characters presented in this novel. The author tried to encompass the five Phibies in several authentic battles even though their characters and experiences were created by his own imagination. The LST played a very important role in the military operations in the islands in the Pacific, and during the invasions of France, Italy, and Africa. Without the LST and its ramp, the delivery of cargo to the beaches during an assault would have been extremely difficult and time consuming. The LST was not the most elegant looking ship to come out of American shipyards but it was designed for a purpose, to deliver men and cargo to an invading beach as quickly as possible, and to support the Allied troops ashore with ammunition, tanks, jeeps, trucks, artillery, medical supplies, and most critical of all food and water. Without these back-up goods the war may have been extended a year or more which would have cost many more American lives. The LST and the other Amphibious forces must be recognized for their part in the war by being one of the most essential components of World War II, and should be commended for their effort in the invasion of hostile enemies both in the Pacific and in the Atlantic theaters. This author attempts to do just that. The novel does not cover the land struggle after an invasion because the ground assaults have already been covered by other authors, and to repeat them here would serve no other purpose but to reiterate their achievements.
