Description : This collection of theological writings by the beloved Victorian author illuminates his views on living in the light of God’s love. The Victorian author, poet, and theologian George MacDonald inspired some of the greatest minds of the early 20th century, including the writer C.S. Lewis, who said MacDonald’s books were pivotal in leading him toward Christianity. But while MacDonald’s fiction remains popular—with such notable classics as Robert Falconer and At the Back of the North Wind—his theological nonfiction is often challenging for modern readers. Now MacDonald scholar and biographer Michael Phillips addresses this difficulty with this expertly edited edition of MacDonald’s sermons and essays exploring what it means to live a Christian life. Each selection is accompanied by Phillips’s illuminating commentary, providing readers with an essential road map into the expansive world of George MacDonald’s theological writings.

Description : It’s essential to uncover the current malady affecting the organized Christian Church today, not its structuring and not necessarily its organizational approach, but present to it His solution, which has never been hidden or even veiled in His Word, which is that we must return to the true roots of Christianity, which is founded on the individual discipleship of each member of His body, just as Jesus designed it and modeled it for us while He ministered on this earth. It passed the acid test of resiliency when it was mercilessly persecuted, as its disciples applied the principles as instituted and instructed by our Lord for all of us to display and to do. I encourage anyone to do a Bible search for the word “disciple” and “believer” and see firsthand that these words are not interchangeable or used in the same context when referring to a specific person who’s known to be committed to our Lord, versus referring to a generalization in the third person to someone or a group who’s aware about the existence of the real living God. God’s remedy it’s still available today to anyone who truly desires to attain it and can decipher that it’s only through discipleship that a true believer is infected with the enthusiasm, zeal, and eagerness in the commitment to fulfill John 8:31 and Matthew 28:19, reaching to those around them who thirst and hunger for the things of God, and in that process, experience the life He promises we can live now. It’s time to abandon, once and for all, the current practices of mass-producing “supporters,” and inscribe it into our minds that the Great Commission was not to make believers but to make disciples. The early church didn't churn out cheerleaders and advocates but bona fide disciples, taught and equipped according to Ephesians 6:10–17, who then, as members of the body of Christ, led by example, transforming them into a formidable, most powerful and effective force the Roman Empire had ever seen. Again, I want to reiterate that I am not against the church, as organized by the apostles, but want to revolutionize it, where discipleship is the top priority and purpose for its existence. I am critical of the current organized version that has taken the place of the real church, that nowadays is wasting vast resources and investing them in huge entertainment amphitheaters, and often dilute, distort, and obscure the true message and method to attain this new life established by our Lord. Unless this change happens, we can’t truly reach and change a lost world. Our Real Life in Christ seeks to help those who are experiencing that gnawing sensation that there is much more to God’s Word than what is being offered by those weekly sermons in churches today.

It came from a correspondent in county Kerry, Ireland, and earnestly begged for the prayers of Father John on behalf of the writer, who appeared to be in great distress of mind and body. His letter is being translated, and will be forwarded to the reverend pastor. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Not illustrated. 1897 edition. Excerpt: ... of furniture in them, decorating them richly and exquisitely, instead of merely having a secure and decent roof to protect us from the injurious action of the elements, and things necessary and suitable for domestic use. We amuse ourselves with our mental gifts, with our intellect, imagination, using them only to serve sin and the vanity of this world--that is, only to serve earthly and corruptible things--instead of using them before all and above all to serve God, to learn to know Him, the all-wise Creator of every creature, for prayer, supplication, petitions, thanksgiving and praise to Him, and to show mutual love and respect, and only partly to serve this world, which will some day entirely pass away. We amuse ourselves with our knowledge of worldly vanity, and to acquire this knowledge we waste most precious time, which was given to us for our preparation for eternity. We frequently amuse ourselves with our affairs and business, with our duties, fulfilling them heedlessly, carelessly, and wrongfully, and using them for our own covetous, earthly purposes. We amuse ourselves with beautiful human faces, or the fair, weaker sex, and often use them for the sport of our passions. We amuse ourselves with time, which ought to be wisely utilised for redeeming eternity, and not for games and various pleasures. Finally, we amuse ourselves with our own selves, making idols out of ourselves, before which we bow down, and before which we expect others to bow down. Who can sufficiently describe and deplore our accursedness, our great, enormous vanity, the great misery into which we voluntarily throw ourselves? What answer shall we give to our immortal King, Christ our God, Who shall come again in the glory of His Father to judge both the quick...

Description : This college edition of Our Moral Life in Christ by Rev. Peter Armenio focuses on the Person and teachings of Christ and examines the moral life from that perspective. Christian morality is not only for "knowing," but also for "living." This is a practical manner in which the spirit of Christ is made manifest in the world, thus contributing to the improvement of society. Based on the Ten Commandments and the Beatitudes, Our Moral Life in Christ presents the teachings of the Magisterium on moral issues in modern society. Inspired by recent papal documents, especially the encyclical The Splendor of Truth, and the Catechism of the Catholic Church, this book provides the moral formation that will help the reader to become more Christlike in service of love and in the journey toward personal perfection as well as providing the foundation to pursue advanced theological studies.

Description : This book grew out of a series of messages Pastor Wade preached from II Peter. While he studied the passage to prepare the messages for the congregation, his heart was touched in a special way. He noticed that Peter had so much to say in so few words. Pastor was introduced to a whole new way of viewing the practical, working, and spirit filled Christian life. What he saw in this passage was that every Christian that lives the Spirit filled life, is looked upon as a hero in God's eyes. He noticed that what God attributed to heroism was very different than the human concept of what a hero looks like. It's a good feeling to know what pleases God and to know that you can do it. Pastor Wade felt a great need to share these practical principles of a hero's life with more than just his congregation. This book takes the precept and idea of "virtue" in your life and separates it into bite size pieces, easily digestible. Each concept of the virtuous life is explained and Pastor Wade even entertains the reader with some real life threatening experiences he had while he was a firefighter. These experiences relate to the concepts of the hero's life as you will see and the blessing is this; After you read this book you too will be equipped with the insider information you need to live a pleasing to God, Hero's Life In Christ!"

Description : This is the twelfth book in the series Christianity and the Human Brain. It integrates neuroscience and the Bible, the holy book of Jesus. My love for Jesus Christ abides with my lifetime passion for neurosurgery and medicine. I have a continual obsession for spiritual connectivity between the Holy Spirit and the human brain, which indeed separates mankind from all other living creation. It has been my belief that the human brain does not limit itself to the physical skull. Rather, it extends in a nonphysical form to the outside spiritual world, even while living on earth. In other words, a big part of the human brain is actually outside the skull and the body. After performing brain surgeries for three decades, I have realized that my theory is so true. The majestic human brain can’t be just the 1,500 grams of jelled matter inside the skull. The human journey, therefore, is transforming the human brain into the brain of a man of God and transforming the hand of man into the hand of the man of God. The spiritual human brain never dies. Only the flesh does. This is the center of my calling and my unrelenting meditations while roaming in the heartfelt spirit, lacking the physical proof that science demands from me. My life is dedicated to Jesus, to my patients, and to my residents. As a physician, I have reached the top within America both as a professor of neurological surgery and anesthesiology and as a well-published author of several famous medical journals. As an academic teacher, I trained for more than thirty-four years and have watched thousands of trainees graduate. But all this is nothing as I strive to achieve Christian holiness and fullness. In a weeping healthcare with many patients’ falling victims, I included actual miracles, testimonials, and sincere quotes from patients as a testament to the Almighty and the dire need for faith and good-hearted medicine. This book is full of many vibrant stories that I love to share, which is timely since I am guessing that my generation will soon be viewed obsolete by future generations. What will remain are the books I authored. This book is a text of wealth, covering broad and diverse topics in my life journey within 134 chapters and organized over fourteen sections. So many chapters are written about my special love for Jesus Christ and his children. In poems, deep reflections, and spiritual release of mind, I wrote extensively. In fact, I shut my senses and impersonated the human brains of the men of God and the children of the Most High in their prominent biblical stories. A special section is dedicated to mothers, newborns, and little children. While my soul is grieving, a section is centered on the ongoing Christian persecution, especially the genocide of Christians in my country, Egypt, which is also the ancient region of the Middle East and the oldest historic continent of Africa. Furthermore, I wrote some of my dreams and thoughts that I couldn’t otherwise convey for one reason or another, such as neuroscience in aerospace and some of the timely and touching subjects such as drug overdose, human trafficking, and health-care crises. Few chapters are included about my personal views about introducing spirituality into the recent turmoil in politics. Friends, human life starts with love and ends with eternal love for our savior. It is never enough to share our love and write about love and talk about actual love stories of heavenly roses, joy, Christmas, healing touch, miracles, and our calling for his purpose. This is what my twelfth book is all about.

Description : How does life in each room of your home manifest the Gospel? The Christian gospel isn't just a spiritual reality. The Word became flesh and bone, and the gospel becomes our porch, dining room, bedroom, and kitchen. The driving desire of the gospel is "my life for yours." Our desire should be to have this love tranform everything we do, room by room. This book works its way through every part of the house, examining each part in light of Scripture. The claims of God are always total, and this is evident on the doorposts and in a sink full of dishes. Self-centeredness destroys in monotonously similar ways. Giving up life for another produces a harvest of kindness and mercy. Household questions should always begin with, "is this my life for yours?"

Description : What do you believe about souls? There are many very different doctrines taught in the world today concerning souls that are believed to be in all humans. By most a soul is believed to be something that is wholly apart from the person a soul is in; that a soul is something that is that is believed to be complete in its self without the person; it will live after the person it is in is dead; it is believed that a soul will exist forever without the person; it will never be dead; therefore, a soul cannot be resurrected from the dead. It is believed that a soul must live someplace forever, and it will live either in Heaven or Hell even if there is no resurrection. The doctrine of unconditional immortality of a deathless soul being in a person, and that soul leaving that person at the death of the person makes it impossible for Christ to have give His life to save that soul from death; if a soul had immortality it would already have life and could never not have life; all Christ could do is give it a reward or punish it.
