Description : The New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures (NWT) is published by the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society (WT). This is the organization that Jehovah's Witnesses belong to. But how reliable is this Bible version? Much has been written about the NWT in regards to passages dealing with the deity of Christ. As such, rather than going over that much worn ground, this review will instead evaluate the NWT by looking at select passages from Paul's Epistle to the Ephesians. The verses will be quoted first from the NWT and then from the word-for-word translation in the Watchtower's own Kingdom Interlinear Translation of the Greek Scriptures (KIT). Since the WT claims the NWT is a literal version, it will be seen how closely it follows the strictly literal translation in their own interlinear. And then the verses will be quoted from the New King James Version (NKJV) and from this writer's own Analytical-Literal Translation (ALT), following the most recent updates. The standards to be used here are the same standards that I use in evaluating over thirty versions of the Bible in my book Differences Between Bible Versions. Simply put, does the translation faithfully and accurately render the Greek text into English? More specifically, are words translated correctly? Are words left untranslated? Are words added without any indication they have been added? Are the grammatical forms of words altered? Are phrases paraphrased rather than translated? How readable is the text? How reliable is the Greek text being translated? Edition 2.1, updated December 2016.

Description : The Analytical-Literal Translation of the Old Testament (Septuagint): Volume IV: The Prophetic Books (ALT) is a companion to the Analytical-Literal Translation of the New Testament. Both are translated by Gary F. Zeolla. The ALT: Old Testament is being published in five volumes. Most Old Testaments are based on the Hebrew text. But this Old Testament (OT) is based on the Greek Septuagint (LXX). The LXX is a third century B.C. Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible. The name and abbreviation comes from the tradition that 70 (or 72) Jewish scholars worked on its translation, six from each of the 12 tribes of Israel. The importance of the LXX is that it was THE Bible of the early Church. The purpose of the ALT is to provide a translation of the Greek Septuagint that will enable the reader to come as close to the Greek text as possible without having to be proficient in Greek.

Description : This book is for the person struggling in life and for the person struggling with how God sovereignly works in people’s lives. It goes through the Bible more or less in order, from the first verse of Genesis to the last verse of The Revelation. It discusses both general principles and specific issues. Along the way, I relate examples of how I believe the sovereignty of God has been operating in my life, in hopes that my experiences will help the reader to apply the principles to your life. This book also addresses the question of the relationship of God’s sovereignty to the human will or volition.

Description : REVIEWING 2013 New World Translation of Jehovah’s Witnesses is going to challenge your objectivity. Being objective means that personal feelings or opinions do not influence you in considering and representing facts. Being subjective means that your understanding is based on or influenced by personal feelings, tastes, or ideas. If the reader finds these insights offense, it might be a little mind control at work from years of being told the same misinformation repeatedly, so ponder things objectively. We can also have preconceived ideas that have been a part of our thinking for so long; we do not question them. Preconceived is an idea or opinion that is formed before having the evidence for its truth. If we are to be effective, we must season our words, so that they are received well. Then there is the term preconception, which means a preconceived idea or prejudice. Seasoned words, honesty, and accuracy are distinctive features of effective apologetic evangelism.

Description : This Volume VII of the Analytical-Literal Translation of the Holy Bible (ALT) contains the Apostolic Fathers (APF). These are the writings of Church leaders of the late first to mid-second centuries, most of whom were direct disciples of the apostles. Some of these books were seriously considered for inclusion in the canon of the NT. These are marked with an asterisk on the Table of Contents. They were ultimately rejected for the canon, but all of these APF books were popular in the early centuries of the Church. They give insight into the mindset of the early Church shortly after the apostles and provide background to the NT. As such, they are very much worth reading.

Description : What did God give to human beings for food? What does the Bible teach about diet and nutrition? How do the Biblical teachings on foods compare to scientific research on nutrition and the relationship of diet to degenerative disease like heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes, and osteoporosis? These and other questions are addressed in this book. This Second Edition is 2-1/2 times as long as the First Edition. This Second Edition also presents a different perspective on diet. The First Edition mostly advocated a vegan diet, while this Second Edition also advocates for a diet that includes animal foods. But, and this is very important, those animal foods are to be what are called “old-fashioned” meats, dairy, and eggs, not the “factory farm” products that most people eat. What is meant by these two terms and the incredible difference between them is explained in this book. Many more diet related topics are also covered, every subject imaginable about sound nutritional practices.

There is much debate on whether these books are inspired by God or not. Only by reading them in a literal translation can you make a decision on this controversial issue. These books were written from 200 B. C. to 50 A.D. So whether inspired or not, they provide insight into Jewish history and thought shortly before and during the time of New Testament events and thus provide important background to the New Testament.

That fight was sure to have an effect on the 2018 midterm elections. But before the country got to Election Day, several additional events occurred that further tore the country apart and which would also affect the midterms, from caravans of illegal immigrants, to pipe bombs, to yet another mass shooting in the USA. Then after the midterms, yet more events occurred or continued that further tore the USA apart.

Description : Since escaping the Watchtower twenty-five years ago, Candy Gwen Lopitz has had a heart for people seeking freedom from religious cults. Candy knows first-hand how cult indoctrination and abuses produce long-term effects in adherents."What has always motivated me to reach out to people coming out of the cults," she says, "is a strong desire not to see others struggle all alone to find freedom and identity within outer society."When Candy founded Freedom Beacon Ministries in 2006, her intention was to offer support to such individuals and to help them to achieve a solid Scriptural foundation. However, it was not long before other weary souls in search of spiritual rest and nourishment began to flock to Freedom Beacon Ministries. Candy says that she is very pleased that she and the like-minded staff at Freedom Beacon Ministries have never turned away anyone in need of God's solace and grace."It is very disturbing to see so many people in our society today laboring beneath such spiritual, emotional, and psychological devastation," she says."I am absolutely delighted to be able to offer my experience, my education in the Behavioral Sciences, and solid Biblical teaching to any one who can benefit. I wholeheartedly believe in this cause and I would not trade what I do for anything in the world. To see people break the chains of spiritual, emotional, and mental bondage is an indescribably rewarding feeling. To witness such profound spiritual healing is to experience confirmation of God's loving grace on a daily basis."This book is for the spiritual captives of the world and for anyone seeking to assist them in their journey to recovery.

Description : From its origins in nineteenth century Adventism until the present day, the Watch Tower Society has become one of the best known but least understood new religious movements. Resisting the tendency to define the movement in terms of the negative, this volume offers an empathetic account of the Jehovah's Witnesses, without defending or seeking to refute their beliefs. George Chryssides critically examines the historical and theological bases of the organization's teachings and practices, and discusses the changes and continuities which have defined it. The book provides a valuable resource for scholars of new religious movements and contemporary religion.

Description : Early Americans have long been considered "A People of the Book" Because the nickname was coined primarily to invoke close associations between Americans and the Bible, it is easy to overlook the central fact that it was a book-not a geographic location, a monarch, or even a shared language-that has served as a cornerstone in countless investigations into the formation and fragmentation of early American culture. Few books can lay claim to such powers of civilization-altering influence. Among those which can are sacred books, and for Americans principal among such books stands the Bible. This Handbook is designed to address a noticeable void in resources focused on analyzing the Bible in America in various historical moments and in relationship to specific institutions and cultural expressions. It takes seriously the fact that the Bible is both a physical object that has exercised considerable totemic power, as well as a text with a powerful intellectual design that has inspired everything from national religious and educational practices to a wide spectrum of artistic endeavors to our nation's politics and foreign policy. This Handbook brings together a number of established scholars, as well as younger scholars on the rise, to provide a scholarly overview--rich with bibliographic resources--to those interested in the Bible's role in American cultural formation.

Description : In Confident Faith, Mark Mittelberg assures Christians that we can be confident in our beliefs. There's no reason to be timid about what we believe, because our beliefs can stand up to the test. Truth isn't dependent on how a person feels or one's own point of view, as so many assert. On the contrary, we can determine truth through our five senses, and that truth reliably points to a deeper and unseen reality. Mark walks readers through twenty arrows that point towards Christian beliefs: from the intricate design of the universe to archaeological proofs, from the consistent testimony of changed lives to the reliability of the ancient documents of the Bible. After studying these arrows, you'll put this book down with a renewed confidence in what you believe and why it matters for eternity.
