Description : The Department of Radiation Oncology, Medical University of Vienna/AKH Wien, aims for a magnetic resonance (MR)-only treatment process for cerebral lesions, motivated by a higher soft tissue contrast of MR imaging (MRI) without applying additional ionizing radiation dose for imaging. Although MR data sets have been used to define anatomical structures for treatment planning for decades, direct MR-based dose calculation is not possible due to absent tissue density information. Neither patient positioning nor imaging in MRI is usually performed with treatment immobilization devices. For this project, the department's new infrastructure is put into clinical operation, i.e. new mask system, new MR head coil and a laser bridge for MR simulation. An MR sequence is optimized for the purpose of using the new MR head coil for radiation treatment planning. The calculation of the irradiation dose is done by synthetic CTs (sCT) generated from MRI. The aim of this thesis is to create a workflow that enables an MR-only treatment planning process for cerebral lesions. The main focus is on optimizing the immobilization devices to ensure the patient's stabilization, the reproducibility of the positioning and the treatment plan assessment.*****The Department of Radiation Oncology, Medical University of Vienna/AKH Wien, aims for a magnetic resonance (MR)-only treatment process for cerebral lesions, motivated by a higher soft tissue contrast of MR imaging (MRI) without applying additional ionizing radiation dose for imaging. Description : Radiation Pathology is an up-to-date compendium of the effects of ionizing radiation on human tissues. The early chapters deal with basic science: physics, radiobiology, genetics, etc. The circumstances of human exposures (therapeutic, accidental, warfare) are then considered in the light of extensive epidemiological data. Acute radiation syndromes and radiation cardiogenesis are described in detail, including recent information on mechanisms of oncogenesis. Two chapters outline the current uses of radiation in therapy and in diagnosis, including the various applications of radionuclides. The bulk of the text deals with radiopathology and its morphologic expression. An overview orients the reader and classifies the main types of lesions. The chapters on specific organs or organ systems are consistently divided into sections to facilitate rapid retrieval of information on: normal structure, tolerance doses, experimental studies, morphology and pathogenesis, and clinical manifestations.

Description : This exciting new resource contains selected care plans for pediatric, maternal, and psychiatric nursing in addition to medical-surgical nursing care plans - 101 care plans in all. This allows students to use one book throughout the curriculum. Care plans are organized in four separate sections (medical-surgical, pediatric, maternal, and psychiatric) and within each section alphabetically by disorder/condition. The open and attractive two-color design, the latest NANDA nursing diagnoses, and desired outcomes featuring specific timeframes, make this the most student-friendly and clinically relevant nursing care plan book. The unique "four books in one" approach includes pediatric, maternal, and psychiatric nursing care plans in addition to medical-surgical care plans. Written by clinical experts in each subject area to ensure the most current, accurate, and clinically-relevant content available. Each care plan employs a consistent format of: Overview, Health Care Setting, Assessment, Diagnostic Tests, Nursing Diagnoses, and Patient-Family Teaching and Discharge Planning. Detailed rationales for each nursing intervention help students to apply concepts to clinical practice. An open and attractive two-color design facilitates quick and easy retrieval of information. Nursing interventions and rationales are listed in a clear two-column format to make the information more accessible. Related NIC interventions and NOC outcomes are listed for each nursing diagnosis. The Patient-Family Teaching and Discharge Planning section highlights key patient education topics, as well as resources for further information. Health Care Setting is specified for each care plan, since these conditions are treated in various settings such as hospital, primary care, long-term care facility, community, and home care. Outcome criteria with specific timelines enable nurses to set realistic goals for nursing outcomes and provide quality, cost-effective care. Includes the most recent NANDA Taxonomy II nursing diagnoses. Separate care plans on Pain and End-of-Life Care focus on palliative care for patients with terminal illnesses, as well as relief of acute and chronic pain.
