Description : Cryptography, secret writing, is enjoying a scientific renaissance following the seminal discovery in 1977 of public-key cryptography and applications in computers and communications. This book gives a broad overview of public-key cryptography - its essence and advantages, various public-key cryptosystems, and protocols - as well as a comprehensive introduction to classical cryptography and cryptoanalysis. The second edition has been revised and enlarged especially in its treatment of cryptographic protocols. From a review of the first edition: "This is a comprehensive review ... there can be no doubt that this will be accepted as a standard text. At the same time, it is clearly and entertainingly written ... and can certainly stand alone." Alex M. Andrew, Kybernetes, March 1992

Description : It has been a real pleasure to have taken part in organizing the 12th Inter- tional Conference on Practice and Theory in Public Key Cryptography (PKC 2009). PKC 2009 was held March 18-20, 2009, on the campus of the Univ- sity of California, Irvine (UCI). As usual, it was sponsored by the International Association for Cryptologic Research (IACR) in cooperation with: – UCI Secure Computing and Networking Center (SCONCE) – UCI Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences (DBSICS) – California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology (CalIT2) The PKC 2008 Program Committee (PC) consisted of 33 internationally r- ognized researchers with combined expertise covering the entire scope of the conference. Recent growth in the number of cryptography venues has resulted in sti? competition for high-quality papers. Nonetheless, PKC's continued success is evident from both the number and the quality of submissions. PKC 2009 - ceived a total of 112 submissions. They were reviewed by the PC members and a highly quali?ed team of external reviewers. Each submission was refereed by at least three reviewers. After deliberations by the PC, 28 submissions were accepted for presentation. Based on extensive discussions, the PKC 2009 best paper awardwas givento Alexander Mayand MaikeRitzenhofen for their paper “Implicit Factoring: On Polynomial Time Factoring Given Only an Implicit Hint”.Theconferenceprogramalsoincluded twoinvited talks,byAnna Lysy- skaya (Brown University) and Amit Sahai (UCLA).

Description : This book describes the efficient implementation of public-key cryptography (PKC) to address the security challenges of massive amounts of information generated by the vast network of connected devices, ranging from tiny Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags to powerful desktop computers. It investigates implementation aspects of post quantum PKC and homomorphic encryption schemes whose security is based on the hardness of the ring-learning with error (LWE) problem. The work includes designing an FPGA-based accelerator to speed up computation on encrypted data in the cloud computer. It also proposes a more practical scheme that uses a special module called recryption box to assist homomorphic function evaluation, roughly 20 times faster than the implementation without this module.

Description : The introduction of public key cryptography (PKC) was a critical advance in IT security. In contrast to symmetric key cryptography, it enables confidential communication between entities in open networks, in particular the Internet, without prior contact. Beyond this PKC also enables protection techniques that have no analogue in traditional cryptography, most importantly digital signatures which for example support Internet security by authenticating software downloads and updates. Although PKC does not require the confidential exchange of secret keys, proper management of the private and public keys used in PKC is still of vital importance: the private keys must remain private, and the public keys must be verifiably authentic. So understanding so-called public key infrastructures (PKIs) that manage key pairs is at least as important as studying the ingenious mathematical ideas underlying PKC. In this book the authors explain the most important concepts underlying PKIs and discuss relevant standards, implementations, and applications. The book is structured into chapters on the motivation for PKI, certificates, trust models, private keys, revocation, validity models, certification service providers, certificate policies, certification paths, and practical aspects of PKI. This is a suitable textbook for advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in computer science, mathematics, engineering, and related disciplines, complementing introductory courses on cryptography. The authors assume only basic computer science prerequisites, and they include exercises in all chapters and solutions in an appendix. They also include detailed pointers to relevant standards and implementation guidelines, so the book is also appropriate for self-study and reference by industrial and academic researchers and practitioners.

Description : PKC 2003 was the Sixth International Workshop on Practice and Theory in Public Key Cryptography and was sponsored by IACR, the International As- ciation for Cryptologic Research (www.iacr.org). This year the workshop was organized in cooperation with the Department of Computer Science, Florida State University. The General Chair, Mike Burmester was responsible for local organization, registration, etc. There were 105 submitted papers which were considered by the Program Committee. This is an increase of 52% compared to PKC 2002, which took place in Paris, France, February 2002, and which was incorrectly identi?ed on the cover of the proceedings as being the fourth workshop. Due to the large number of submissions, some papers that contained new ideas had to be rejected. Priority was given to novel papers. Of the 105 submissions, 26 were selected for the proceedings. These contain the revised versions of the accepted papers. Each paper was sent to at least 3 members of the program committee for comments. Revisions were not checked for correctness of their scienti?c aspects and the authors bear full responsibility for the contents of their papers. Some authors will write ?nal versions of their papers for publication in refereed journals. I am very grateful to the members of the Program Committee for their hard work in the di?cult task of selecting roughly 1 out of 4 of the submitted papers.

Description : Although much literature exists on the subject of RSA and public-key cryptography, until now there has been no single source that reveals recent developments in the area at an accessible level. Acclaimed author Richard A. Mollin brings together all of the relevant information available on public-key cryptography (PKC), from RSA to the latest applications of PKC, including electronic cash, secret broadcasting, secret balloting systems, various banking and payment protocols, high security logins, smart cards, and biometrics. Moreover, he covers public-key infrastructure (PKI) and its various security applications. Throughout the book, Mollin gives a human face to cryptography by including nearly 40 biographies of the individuals who helped develop cryptographic concepts. He includes a number of illustrative and motivating examples, as well as optional topics that go beyond the basics, such as Lenstra's elliptic curve method and the number field sieve. From history and basic concepts to future trends and emerging applications, this book provides a rigorous and detailed treatment of public-key cryptography. Accessible to anyone from the senior undergraduate to the research scientist, RSA and Public-Key Cryptography offers challenging and inspirational material for all readers.
