Description : "This Resource Manual for the 11th edition of Nursing Research: Generating and Assessing Evidence for Nursing Practice complements and strengthens the textbook in important ways. The manual provides opportunities to reinforce the acquisition of basic research skills through systematic learning exercises. We have emphasized exercises that involve careful reading and critical appraisal of actual studies. Critical appraisal skills are increasingly important in an environment that promotes evidence-based nursing practice. Moreover, the ability to think critically about research decisions is fundamental to being able to design and plan one's own study. An important feature of this Resource Manual is the online Toolkit, which offers important resources to beginning and advanced researchers. Our mission was to include easily adaptable tools for a broad range of research situations. In this edition, we have added many more resources for qualitative researchers and tools that can be used in quality improvement projects. In our own careers as researchers, we have found that adapting existing forms, figures, manuals, or protocols is far more efficient and productive than "starting from scratch." By making these tools available as Word files, we have made it possible for you to adapt tools to meet your specific needs, without the tedium of having to retype basic information. We wish we had had this Toolkit in our early years as researchers! We think seasoned researchers are likely to find parts of the Toolkit useful as well"--

Description : 'The 4th edition of this extensive text is an outstanding resource prepared by nurses (and a librarian) for nurses. In a structured and helpful style it presents thousands of items from the literature - published papers, reports, books and electronic resources - as a clear, accessible, and most of all useful collection. The efforts to signpost and lead the reader to the sought-for information are effective and well-conceived, and the "How to use this book" section is remarkably simple...the book should be found in every nursing and health library, every research institute and centre, and close to many career researchers' desks' - RCN Research This latest edition of Resources for Nursing Research provides a comprehensive bibliography of sources on nursing research, and includes references for books, journal papers and Internet resources. Designed to act as a 'signpost' to available literature in the area, this Fourth Edition covers the disciplines of nursing, health care and the social sciences. Entries are concise, informative and accessible, and are arranged under three main sections: · 'Sources of Literature' covers the process of literature searching, including using libraries and other tools for accessing literature · 'Methods of Inquiry' includes an introduction to research, how to conceptualize and design nursing and health research, measurement and data collection, and the interpretation and presentation of data · 'The Background to Research in Nursing' encompasses the development of nursing research; the profession's responsibilities; the role of government; funding; research roles and careers; and education for research. Fully revised and updated, the Fourth Edition includes just under 3000 entries, of which 90% are new. It has extensive coverage of US, UK literature and other international resources. This new edition will be an essential guide for all those with an interest in nursing research, including students, teachers, librarians, practitioners and researchers.

Description : The first resource to present the “nuts and bolts” of creating a successful nursing research program. This text provides a roadmap to develop and nurture a nursing research program in complex hospital environments. Written by experienced clinical researchers who have successfully implemented these techniques in the Cleveland Clinic, the handbook shows nurses how to build and sustain a research program—a fundamental requirement to transform patient care and administrative practices and obtain and sustain American Nurses Credentialing Center Magnet® program recognition. The book demonstrates, step-by-step, how leaders and staff can integrate nursing research into the workflow of complex health care environments. It provides a framework for developing horizontal and vertical structures that promote the creation of new knowledge and for enhancing the scientific foundation of nursing evidence. With a focus on practical applications, the book addresses the structures, systems, processes, and resources required for creating and maintaining a research program along with methods for its evaluation. The handbook describes foundational principles that apply to hospitals of all sizes (including ambulatory centers and hospitals without extensive resources), and provides concrete guidance in adapting structures and processes to fit the needs of hospitals with varied nursing staff size and program goals. Replete with a wealth of ideas and strategies, it provides detailed templates that will assist novice and more experienced researchers, guidelines for committees to support nursing research within a hospital, and discusses the “who,” “what,” “why” of systems that enhance workflow. Chapters offer experiential stories written by nurses who describe the “real world” experiences of implementing clinical research in their practice. Tables and figures further illuminate information. Key Features: Written by experienced researchers who have implemented the techniques used in this book Provides a framework adaptable for use with hospitals of all sizes Includes guidelines for committees/councils to support nursing research within the organization Discusses processes and systems that enhance collaboration and workflow Offers stories from the field by nurses about “lessons learned” from their research experiences

Description : ABOUT THIS BOOK For the last 40 years nursing research has been struggling to establish its theoretical roots and legitimate place within the wider arena of research in the health sciences. Overshadowed by the medical endeavour, both resources and support have been meagre. Initially this medical hegemony also restricted the range of research designs by favouring the quantitative approaches that have formed the backbone of much clinical research. However, despite these restrictions, nursing research has developed a particular diversity which matches the eclec ticism of the discipline itself. Nursing and nurses have rapidly recognized that health-related research problems often require a multi-faceted approach that can be realized most effectively through multi-disciplinary activities. Not unexpectedly, however, individual researchers have frequently remained entrenched in the particular methodologies with which they are familiar and have only reluctantly (and perhaps wisely) ventured beyond these. In contrast, the aim of this book has been to gather together material that reflects the diversity and richness of research in nursing. To juxtapose different designs springing from different epistemologies, with the aim of stimulating a more holistic approach. It hopes to provide readers with an understanding of nursing research through a consideration of the issues involved.
