It’s the end of an era. I have produced high-energy, content-rich RockStar Marketing BootCamps for the past twelve years. At my first BootCamp I was blessed to have approximately 250 people in the audience. Over the years it continued to grow, and at my April 2019 event, we had more than 700 attendees.

We tend to assume that we may divide our activities into talk and action. In so doing we tend to suggest that talk is subordinate to action. Abuses by international corporations, withdrawal of social services and implementation of regressive legislation continue to impoverish women and reduce the quality of their everyday lives: women have reason to be demoralized. No two human beings have the same fingerprint nor feel the same sensations in exactly the same way at exactly the same time, and yet we can relate to a lot of the same emotions in similar ways. I reflected on some of the things my grandmother would say to me, thought about scenes I have seen in movies and how knowledge and habits are passed down through generations, and it makes me think of how connected we are as human beings. Some of the contents of things I have received from the papers in fortune cookies remind me of things my grandmother would say and sometimes take me back to pleasant memories from my childhood, and just like how a cookie is shared, I wanted to share the emotions the fortunes elicit.

Story time is a popular activity in public libraries. Unfortunately, many librarians (and not just children’s librarians) are thrust into the role of providing this service have not taken a course or had the necessary experience of performing story times. Despite starting as one of the poorest countries in the mid-1980s, Vietnam has achieved rapid developmental progress, reaching lower middle-income status in 2010. In line with rapid economic growth, Vietnam has achieved impressive progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) during this time. This paper sheds light on some elements of Vietnam’s success story, highlighting crucial policies in education and electricity sectors. It undertakes a forward-looking costing exercise that focusses on five sectors – education, health, roads, water, and electricity infrastructure. Achieving the remaining SDGs in Vietnam will be a challenge, with total annual additional spending needs in the 5 subsectors estimated at 7 percent of GDP by 2030.
