Strategy Leadership and AI in the Cyber Ecosystem Book Excerpt:

Strategy, Leadership and AI in the Cyber Ecosystem investigates the restructuring of the way cybersecurity and business leaders engage with the emerging digital revolution towards the development of strategic management, with the aid of AI, and in the context of growing cyber-physical interactions (human/machine co-working relationships). The book explores all aspects of strategic leadership within a digital context. It investigates the interactions from both the firm/organization strategy perspective, including cross-functional actors/stakeholders who are operating within the organization and the various characteristics of operating in a cyber-secure ecosystem. As consumption and reliance by business on the use of vast amounts of data in operations increase, demand for more data governance to minimize the issues of bias, trust, privacy and security may be necessary. The role of management is changing dramatically, with the challenges of Industry 4.0 and the digital revolution. With this intelligence explosion, the influence of artificial intelligence technology and the key themes of machine learning, big data, and digital twin are evolving and creating the need for cyber-physical management professionals. Information Security Technologies for Controlling Pandemics Book Excerpt:

The year 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic marked a huge change globally, both in working and home environments. They posed major challenges for organisations around the world, which were forced to use technological tools to help employees work remotely, while in self-isolation and/or total lockdown. Though the positive outcomes of using these technologies are clear, doing so also comes with its fair share of potential issues, including risks regarding data and its use, such as privacy, transparency, exploitation and ownership. COVID-19 also led to a certain amount of paranoia, and the widespread uncertainty and fear of change represented a golden opportunity for threat actors. This book discusses and explains innovative technologies such as blockchain and methods to defend from Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs), some of the key legal and ethical data challenges to data privacy and security presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, and their potential consequences. It then turns to improved decision making in cyber security, also known as cyber situational awareness, by analysing security events and comparing data mining techniques, specifically classification techniques, when applied to cyber security data. In addition, the book illustrates the importance of cyber security, particularly information integrity and surveillance, in dealing with an on-going, infectious crisis. Aspects addressed range from the spread of misinformation, which can lead people to actively work against measures designed to ensure public safety and minimise the spread of the virus, to concerns over the approaches taken to monitor, track, trace and isolate infectious cases through the use of technology. In closing, the book considers the legal, social and ethical cyber and information security implications of the pandemic and responses to it from the perspectives of confidentiality, integrity and availability.

Machine Learning for Cyber Agents Book Excerpt:

The cyber world has been both enhanced and endangered by AI. On the one hand, the performance of many existing security services has been improved, and new tools created. On the other, it entails new cyber threats both through evolved attacking capacities and through its own imperfections and vulnerabilities. Moreover, quantum computers are further pushing the boundaries of what is possible, by making machine learning cyber agents faster and smarter. With the abundance of often-confusing information and lack of trust in the diverse applications of AI-based technologies, it is essential to have a book that can explain, from a cyber security standpoint, why and at what stage the emerging, powerful technology of machine learning can and should be mistrusted, and how to benefit from it while avoiding potentially disastrous consequences. In addition, this book sheds light on another highly sensitive area - - the application of machine learning for offensive purposes, an aspect that is widely misunderstood, under-represented in the academic literature and requires immediate expert attention.

AI Leadership for Boards Book Excerpt:

It is predicted that artificial intelligence [Al], and the “big data” on which Al is based, will become one of the most challenging board issues in the next ten years. This book, AI Leadership for Boards – The Future of Corporate Governance, offers to provide guidance on how corporate boards should respond to this challenge. The findings indicate that while boards are aware of the importance of Al implementation as a key competitive advantage, they will need to develop two competence areas to successfully steward their firms into an Al-based future: [1] guiding Al operational capability and [2] supervising Al governance capability. These areas are combined to create the Boards 4 AI Leadership Matrix – a practical tool for boards to map and develop their Al implementation. The matrix is accompanied by a set of questions to help boards develop a better understanding of where they are today in terms of the development of their Al competences as well as set an ambition for future development. Table of Contents: Acknowledgements Executive Summary Chapter 1. Introduction Chapter 2. Background Chapter 3. Guiding AI operational capability Chapter 3.1. AI Development and the Fuzzy Logic of Chinese Cyber Security and Data Laws Book Excerpt:

The book examines the extent to which Chinese cyber and network security laws and policies act as a constraint on the emergence of Chinese entrepreneurialism and innovation. Specifically, how the contradictions and tensions between data localisation laws (as part of Network Sovereignty policies) affect innovation in artificial intelligence (AI). The book surveys the globalised R&D networks, and how the increasing use of open-source platforms by leading Chinese AI firms during 2017–2020, exacerbated the apparent contradiction between Network Sovereignty and Chinese innovation. The drafting of the Cyber Security Law did not anticipate the changing nature of globalised AI innovation. It is argued that the deliberate deployment of what the book refers to as 'fuzzy logic' in drafting the Cyber Security Law allowed regulators to subsequently interpret key terms regarding data in that Law in a fluid and flexible fashion to benefit Chinese innovation.

Cybersecurity in China Book Excerpt:

This book offers the first benchmarking study of China’s response to the problems of security in cyber space. There are several useful descriptive books on cyber security policy in China published between 2010 and 2016. As a result, we know quite well the system for managing cyber security in China, and the history of policy responses. What we don’t know so well, and where this book is useful, is how capable China has become in this domain relative to the rest of the world. This book is a health check, a report card, on China’s cyber security system in the face of escalating threats from criminal gangs and hostile states. The book also offers an assessment of the effectiveness of China’s efforts. It lays out the major gaps and shortcomings in China’s cyber security policy. It is the first book to base itself around an assessment of China’s cyber industrial complex, concluding that China does not yet have one. As Xi Jinping said in July 2016, the country’s core technologies are dominated by foreigners.

The Digital Transformation of Labor Open Access Book Excerpt:

Through a series of studies, the overarching aim of this book is to investigate if and how the digitalization/digital transformation process causes (or may cause) the autonomy of various labor functions, and its impact in creating (or stymieing) various job opportunities on the labor market. This book also seeks to illuminate what actors/groups are mostly benefited by the digitalization/digital transformation and which actors/groups that are put at risk by it. This book takes its point of departure from a 2016 OECD report that contends that the impact digitalization has on the future of labor is ambiguous, as on the one hand it is suggested that technological change is labor-saving, but on the other hand, it is suggested that digital technologies have not created new jobs on a scale that it replaces old jobs. Another 2018 OECD report indicated that digitalization and automation as such does not pose a real risk of destroying any significant number of jobs for the foreseeable future, although tasks would by and large change significantly. This would affects welfare, as most of its revenue stems from taxation, and particularly so from the taxation on labor (directly or indirectly). For this reason, this book will set out to explore how the future technological and societal advancements impact labor conditions. The book seeks to provide an innovative, enriching and controversial take on how various aspects of the labor market can be (and are) affected the ongoing digitalization trend in a way that is not covered by extant literature. As such, this book intends to cater to a wider readership, from a general audience and students, to specialized professionals and academics wanting to gain a deeper understanding of the possible future developments of the labor market in light of an accelerating digitalization/digital transformation of society at large.
