Description : This book is about a vision for quality education - preparing adults to teach on Bible College, seminary and graduate levels. The discipline of education has many ways of approaching the task of teaching and equipping students for a victorious life and ministry. Students in Bible Colleges and seminaries are on the way to full time ministry and need to be equipped for the task. The equipping includes outstanding teaching of information and knowledge as foundation for other learning tasks. The equipping includes a godly example of the spiritual life in prayer and love towards God. It includes the development of skills through good teaching, prayer, experiential learning, and the development of competencies for ministry. The best teachers are those who have a vision for the subject matter at hand, the students, and God. These three aspects of teaching will bring great satisfaction and fulfilment to the teacher and produce a crop of graduates who will go out and change the world. My desire is that one day your students will say the same thing about you that the people who listened to Jesus said, "When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law." (Matthew 7:28 - 29)

Description : "The goal of this study is to show that the faith of the church members will grow when the early morning prayer meeting is used well. Sun-Haeng Methodist Church, where the researcher works, is located in a rural area and most of the church members are busy working in the field. Due to their busy schedules, it is very hard for them to make extra time to pray for spiritual growth. Also, they cannot take regular time out to read the Bible for their faith. Especially during the busy farming season, the attendance for the Sunday morning service is very low. Accordingly, the rate of helping others and having dedication is low. Their concern for evangelism and mission is very low, too. To overcome these problems, the researcher recruited the participants and trained them with words and prayer. After receiving ten weeks of training, the church members at Sun-Haeng Methodist Church realized the importance of prayer and began to pray more by attending the early morning prayer meetings. Those who participated in the training became more active in attending the worship services and taking part in evangelism. Especially, their spiritualities were awakened and their spiritual gifts were developed. They began to work hard in building the Kingdom of God by doing their best in constructing the new church building. In Chapter 1, the researcher stated the problem with the setting of his church background. He established five hypotheses. They are the changing of the understanding of their distorted view on prayer, systematized Bible study, active church attending, sacrifice and dedication, and evangelism and mission. In Chapter 2, the biblical basis, theological basis and historical basis of prayer were described. Several cases on faith growth in the OT and NT were analyzed and described. Also, the theological basis and historical basis on spiritual growth were stated. In Chapter 3, similar researches, theoretical construct and practical application on spiritual growth were discussed. In Chapter 4, the methodologies in this project were stated. 30 believers were recruited as sample group: 15 believers as a Treatment Group, and another 15 as a Control Group. Those in Treatment Group were trained for two hours for 10 weeks on every Saturday and Sunday mornings. The rationale for the methodologies and precise procedures such as making questionnaire, data gathering and data analysis were stated. In Chapter 5, the result of the implementation was stated. In Chapter 6, the interpretation of the result, conclusion of the project, recommendation for further studies and theological reflection were stated"--Abstract.

Description : Have you ever wanted to get closer to God, but you can't seem to make it happen? Or felt like the harder you try to overcome your spiritual struggles, the more you get stuck? There must be a better way.... Simply trying harder never works and that is not God's plan for your spiritual growth. You don’t see an orange tree striving and struggling to produce a single orange. No, the orange will grow because the rest of the tree is healthy. It is a natural process. In the same way you will grow spiritually and produce the fruit of Godly living once your inner-life is healthy and thriving. GrowthWorks is written to help you understand the biblical process of spiritual growth. It is the author’s conviction that the reason most Christians feel like they are not growing spiritually isn't because they don't want to grow, but rather that they are stuck spiritually simply because they don't understand how spiritual growth happens. With simple, practical applications, GrowthWorks will take you step by step through the process of spiritual growth, teaching you biblical principles that will help you respond to God in a fresh and life-changing way. It’s time to start growing again!

Description : A roadmap for spiritual formation In Mansions of the Heart, author R. Thomas Ashbrook begins with his personal story of frustration and confusion while serving as a pastor of the church. He tells of discovering a new path of spiritual transformation and offers seekers a way to move forward on their own spiritual paths. Written for anyone who wants to develop a deeper, more meaningful relationship with God, Mansions of the Heart offers a step-by-step guide through a spiritual-formation road map based on Teresa of Avila's seven mansions. This spiritual classic reveals various phases of spiritual formation, for which Ashbrook offers a personal guide to spiritual transformation. Mansions debunks commonly held myths that lead to spiritual dead ends and describes a clear pathway to a deepening love relationship with God. The book also offers church leaders a process for helping people in their faith communities grow as disciples of Christ.

Description : Western culture has long prized the Intelligence Quotient (IQ) as a benchmark of a person's mental abilities. And since the mid-nineties we have known of other forms of intelligence such as emotional and social. Now, prolific author, former pastor, and leadership development specialist Alan E. Nelson introduces "spiritual intelligence"--a person's ability to assimilate faith into everyday life. Churches and individuals are coming to the conclusion that far too many people are active in church their entire lives but never mature, going directly from Pampers to Depends. How can this be? In Spiritual Intelligence, Nelson will help readers take charge of their spiritual growth by helping them incorporate methods Jesus used in teaching his disciples. Readers will assess their own spiritual maturity and learn what steps to take next in their journey of discipleship.

Description : Spiritual growth is a mystery and is more evident in some than in others. The more the Holy Spirit shines upon the mind and puts forth His lifegiving influences in the heart, so much the more sin is seen, felt and loathed as the greatest of all evils. And this is an evidence of spiritual growth, namely, to hate sin as sin and to abhor it on account of its contrariety to the nature of God.

Description : Spirituality, education and society: An integrated approach argues the value of spirituality in education as a way to address the lived experiences and personal knowledge of students, with the goal of creating a more holistic, transformative educational process. This edited volume has a wide array of viewpoints which all point to the importance of spirituality in the authors’ personal lives, their communities and society at large. Spirituality is conceptualised as a base from which to challenge dominant forms of knowing, while in the process being able to center and engage with an important aspect of the student that has been missing from current evaluations – their spiritual selves.Within the diversity of this volume it becomes evident that spirituality cannot be confined to a singular definition and that educators must be willing to create spaces to foster spiritual growth and exploration if we are to break away from the commoditized, disempowering system that is so dominant today. This edited collection is a valuable resource for students, practitioners, educators and administrators who wish to engage in transformational schooling. Its multidisciplinary approach engages ideas around critical pedagogy, sociology of education, and inclusive schooling. There is an increasing need for exploring novel paradigms of studying education in the context of the dynamics that straddle social, economic and technological processes that have come to characterize the world in recent years. This book is a timely contribution in this respect as its focus transcends hitherto applied approaches that depend largely on western orientation. The book breaks new grounds in studying education and society that find significant relevance in societies that are marginalized by the dominant western understanding. The authors draw from the rich heritage of spirituality that is akin to the non-western social paradigms to develop a rigorous but creative concept of schooling. I am sure practitioners, researchers and students of education will find it a valuable source of practical and theoretical information that would widen their horizon of understanding of sociology of education. - Tom Mongare Ndege, PhD, Moi University, Kenya The editors have compiled a brilliant collection of essays. Each piece of scholarly work shows how spirituality is a paramount part of our everyday lives and is connected to teaching, learning, living and healing. This is a timely and most relevant work that is sure to spur critical dialogue and discussion. This collection shows that while the spirit may be wounded it can never be broken. - Erica Neeganagwedgin, PhD, University of Toronto

Description : Beloved Teacher: my journey with the Holy Spirit is a book that follows the author's spiritual growth from her childhood in Appalachia to the work she did for the past years in the areas of dream therapy, education, family therapy and work in her church. She taught in inner city schools, used poetry as therapy with children at a mental health center and presented workshops in many schools and in communities. All of her experiences have given her a rich background from which to draw personal stories for illustrations. She has presented a well rounded picture of her daily walk with God, showing both her vulnerability and her desire to grow spiritually. Her willingness to share her faults enables us to see her dependency on the Holy Spirit and to celebrate with her when things go right. It is the importance of the journey that she brings us to see, and the delight and gratitude for the beloved teacher.

Description : In Teaching for Spiritual Formation, church historian and experienced Christian educator Kyle R. Hughes advances a fresh vision of Christian teaching and learning by drawing upon the riches of the Christian tradition, synthesizing the wisdom of the early church fathers with contemporary efforts to cultivate a distinctively Christian approach to education. Of interest to a wide range of Christian educators, this book examines how the writings of five significant church fathers can illuminate our understanding of the vocation of teachers, the nature of students, the purpose of curriculum, decisions about pedagogy, and how spiritual formation works. Besides reimagining these aspects of Christian education, Hughes also offers habits and practices that can help bring this vision of Christian teaching and learning to life, challenging Christian educators to sharpen their approach to the integration of faith and learning in practical and accessible ways.
