Description : From the Acts, the Epistles and Revelation is a message of meditation based on the Bible and written by James Russell Miller (20 March 1840 – 2 July 1912) was a popular Christian author, Editorial Superintendent of the Presbyterian Board of Publication, and pastor of several churches in Pennsylvania and Illinois. James Russell Miller was born near Frankfort Springs, Pennsylvania, on the banks of the Big Traverse, which according to his biographer, John T. Faris, is a merry little mill stream which drains one of the most beautiful valleys in the southern part of Beaver County. His parents were James Alexander Miller and Eleanor Creswell who were of Irish/Scottish stock. Miller was the second child of ten, but his older sister died before he was born. James and his sisters attended the district school in Hanover Township, Beaver County, Pennsylvania until, when James was about fourteen, his father moved to a farm near Calcutta, Ohio. The children then went to the district school during the short winters and worked on the farm during summer. In 1857, James entered Beaver Academy and in 1862 he progressed to Westminster College, Pennsylvania, which he graduated in June 1862. Then in the autumn of that year he entered the theological seminary of the United Presbyterian Church at Allegheny, Pennsylvania.

Description : Devotional Hours with the Bible is an eight volume set, Volume VIII studies Acts, the Epistles and Revelation. There are two methods of studying the Bible. One is, verse by verse, giving close thought to every word, even looking into etymology and grammatical construction, so that the exact sense of the text may be learned. Commentaries that take us over the Bible in this microscopic way are valuable. We need every particle of light on the Scriptures we can get. Then another way of studying the Bible-is in order to get from it practical lessons for our own daily common life. What does the passage teach us? What Divine instructions have we in it for ourselves? Devotional Hours with the Bible is an eight volume set by J. R. Miller. The set includes: Volume I From the Creation to the Exodus (ISBN: 978-1-61203-199-6) Volume II From the Exodus through the Life of David (ISBN: 978-1-61203-200-9) Volume III From the Psalms (ISBN: 978-1-61203-201-6) Volume IV From Solomon to Malachi (ISBN: 978-1-61203-202-3) Volume V From the Gospels, on the Life of Christ (ISBN: 978-1-61203-203-0) Volume VI From the Gospel of Matthew (ISBN: 978-1-61203-204-7) Volume VII From the Gospel of John (ISBN: 978-1-61203-205-4) Volume VIII From the Acts, the Epistles and Revelation (ISBN: 978-1-61203-206-1) James Russell Miller was a popular Christian author, Editorial Superintendent of the Presbyterian Board of Publication, and pastor of several churches in Pennsylvania and Illinois. He was the General field Agent for the United States Christian Commission, an organization established by the Young Men's Christian Association after the First Battle of Bull Run. Miller authored nearly 100 books and articles.

Description : Excerpt from The Bible-Work, Vol. 2 of 2: The New Testament; The Acts, the Epistles, and the Revelation If, from a prophetical text or two, we were able to count on our fingers how many years the world will last, such knowledge would puff up, and lead us to talk and speculate, instead of doing with our might what our hand finds to do. It is not enough that we submit to leave the ages and epochs in the Father's hand, because we can not wrench them out of. It we should be glad and grateful that he spares us such sights into the future as we should not be able to bear. It is the part of a dear child to read eagerly all that the Father reveals, and to trust implicitly wherever the Father indicates a de sign to conceal. Blessed are those servants whom the Lord, when he cometh, shall find - not predict ing, but? Watching. In removing the speculative inquiry, he placed a great practical work in their hands. Arnor. Description : In clear English, using as much traditional biblical vocabulary as possible, and using between-the-verse notes where appropriate, the reader is able to discern the interaction in Acts among the Pharisees, Sadducees, Scribes, Herodians, Romans, native Jews, Hellenistic Jews, and Hebrew Christians, both native and Hellenistic. Peter's foundation and Paul's four journeys for the kerygma of the Kingdom of God are made easy to understand. James with his exhortive Decalogue on worldliness is shown to be the best written book in the NT. Jude, Jesus's other half brother, also shows genius as an author. John the theologian couples love to keeping God's commandments, while Peter, with authority, lays out the foundations of our faith. The multilevel metaphors of Revelation are explained in clear English. The story is shown to be the story of the Father and the Son with the power of the Holy Spirit interacting with four women: Jezebel, the wife of Yahweh, the Bride of Christ, and the Mother of Harlots. Notes reveal the reasons for and the timing of the Great Tribulation. The notes also discuss the timing of the Rapture and OT descriptions of the Anti-Christ.
