Description : What does the Bible teach about gender roles? Is there a difference as seen in Scripture? Understanding the debate over biblical feminism is essential to answering the questions about the role of women in the church. In this book, Dr. Cottrell "stands squarely in the path of the evangelical feminists who want to prove that the Bible agrees with their egalitarian views" (Clark H. Pinock, Ph.D., McMaster Divinity College). Lightning Print On Demand Title.

Description : with a Postcript coauthored by Michael W. Goheen In print for two decades and translated into eight languages, Albert Wolters's classic formulation of an integrated Christian worldview has been revised and expanded to reach new readers beyond the generation that has already benefited from this clear, concise proposal for transcending the false dichotomy between sacred and secular. Wolters begins by defining the nature and scope of a worldview, distinguishing it from philosophy and theology. He then outlines a Reformed analysis of the three basic categories in human history -- creation, fall, and redemption -- arguing that while the fall reaches into every corner of the world, Christians are called to participate in Christ's redemption of all creation. This Twentieth Anniversary edition features a new concluding chapter, coauthored with Michael Goheen, that helpfully places the discussion of worldview in a broader narrative and missional context. Praise for the first edition"This is the best statement I have come across of the 'reformational' Christian worldview. It is lucidly written, includes a lot of helpful analogies and illustrations, and is throughout generous in its spirit." -- Nicholas Wolterstorff, Yale University"Translates the central insights and categories of the neo-Calvinist tradition into fresh, nontechnical language and clarifies them with a generous sprinkling of apt illustrations and images. . . . Highly recommended to all those desiring a crisp introduction to a Christian worldview in general or the neo-Calvinist tradition in particular." -- "Christian Scholar's Review"Outstanding. . . . Deserves a wide readership not only in a specifically academiccontext among teachers, preachers, and students, but also among the larger group of believers who are concerned with issues involving Christian worldview, theology, and philosophy." -- "Calvin Theological Journal

Description : The doctrine of creation has often been neglected in Christian theology. Distinguished evangelical theologian Jonathan Wilson exposes what has been missing in current theological discourse and offers an original, constructive work on this doctrine. The book unites creation and redemption, showing the significance of God's work of creation for understanding the good news of redemption in Jesus Christ. Wilson develops a trinitarian account of the life of the world and sets forth how to live wisely, hopefully, peaceably, joyfully, and generously in that world. He also shows how a mature doctrine of creation can help the church think practically about contemporary issues, including creation care, sexuality, technology, food and water, and more.

Description : J. J. Johnson Leese discusses how the apostle Paul's writing on Christ's relationship to creation, read alongside the interpretations of Irenaeus of Lyon, provide a meaningful contribution to contemporary debates on the interrelationship between religion and nature. Leese draws upon the integration of three related scholarly trends – the increased importance placed on biblical creation themes, the emergence of ecotheology, and the history of reception – while focusing on the Pauline corpus and readings of Paul by Irenaeus, thus uncovering a robust creation and ecotheological theology. Irenaeus' approach provides the possibility for Paul to contribute to ecotheology, by way of a theological vision where the whole of reality in relationship to Christ and creation and by extension, to soteriology and ecclesiology, are central components of Paul's theology.

Description : Excerpt from The Christian Doctrine of Creation and Redemption, Vol. 2: Dogmatics During my last visit to the United States, which took place shortly after the publication of the first volume of the Dogma tics, a theological colleague expressed the desire that I would develop further the point of View contained in my book, The divine-human Encounter (wahrheit als Begegnung). He urged that he regarded this view as decisive for the develop ment of theology, and that he wished me to expand it within the whole framework of Christian doctrine. I replied, that I had already made a beginning in The Christian Doctrine of God, and that what I had begun in that volume was being expanded in two later volumes. How do the baldly predatory behavior and wasteful extinction of whole species fit in a Christian understanding? How does miraculous divine action, pictured so vividly in the biblical narratives, square with the inexorable march of the laws of physics? How does a God of love permit so much death and destruction?

Description : The redemption plan preceded creation. It is stated in Isaiah 46:10 that God declares the end from the beginning. God has declared our victory in Christ Jesus at the end of the Bible as recorded in Revelation 22:3-5. We know that this victory has been wrought by Christ crucified. In other words, God has already declared our victory in Christ Jesus right from the very outset. The record of the beginning of all things is not to be read in a linear or chronological fashion. We have to bear in mind that God has declared the end from the beginning. In other words, there are nuggets of redemption truth that can be unearthed when we read the account of beginnings as prophetic in nature. Our loving Father God would not have proceeded with creation if He did not first put in place the redemption plan. It speaks of God's omniscience. Nothing catches Him by surprise. Redemption was a forethought and not an afterthought. The redemption plan that will give us the victory in the end has been declared right from the beginning. This book was written to substantiate the notion with scriptural backing. In the process, we will get to see Jesus, our Redeemer, hidden in the very beginning of the Holy Bible.
