Description : THE CONSCIOUS COOK is a breakthrough in vegan cuisine. By teaching readers how to make truly satisfying and delicious meals without the meat and dairy‚ it makes the shift to a vegan lifestyle easy. A former steak lover himself‚ Chef Tal struggled for years on a vegan diet that left him hungry and filled with cravings for butter and meat. About ten years ago‚ he decided that the best way to satisfy his dietary desires was to make food that was good enough for "foodies" and could gratify his cravings for rich flavor and fat. The solution? Create vegan meals with substantial proteins that could literally change the way people eat. He studied all aspects of non−meat proteins and today is widely regarded as the expert in the field‚ developing new concepts for meals and sauces and helping to improve textures for food companies such as Gardein (the provider of vegetable proteins used by Morningstar Farms‚ It′s All Good‚ Trader Joe′s brands‚ and the prepared food department of Whole Foods‚ to name a few). THE CONSCIOUS COOK features a center−of−the−plate protein in all of its entrees−a first for vegan cookbooks. Seventy−five original recipes are organized by categories that include starters and small plates‚ soups and salads‚ entrees‚ and desserts. Each recipe is accompanied by stunning full−color photographs.

Description : This book, the first to describe women medical practitioners other than midwives in the colonial period, emphasizes that medical care was part of every woman's work. The Healer's Calling uses memorable anecdotes, engaging characters, and medical oddities to tell the fascinating story of the practice of household medicine in early America. Rebecca J. Tannenbaum points out that housewives provided much of the medical care available in the seventeenth century. Elite women cared for the indigent in their towns and used medical practice to make influential connections with powerful men; "doctresses" or "doctor women" supported themselves with their practices and competed directly with male physicians; and midwives were crucial "expert witnesses" in cases of fornication, murder, and witchcraft. Yet there were limits to the authority of women's healing communities, with consequences for those who overstepped the bounds. By setting women's practice in the context of contemporary medicine, gender roles, and community norms, Tannenbaum also reveals the relationship between women's medical practice and witchcraft accusations. Tannenbaum examines colonial America's full range of medical options—including the work of classically trained male doctors and male lay practitioners—with a keen eye to the interactions and tensions between men and women in the realm of healing.

Description : God has a plan and purpose for everything He does here on earth. “The Lord Almighty has sworn, ‘Surely as I have planned, so it will be, and as I have purposed, so it will stand.’” Isaiah 14:24 (NIV). For you and me to be a part of that greatest honor bestowed upon mortal humans. God opened to me His plan and purpose for my life in 1953 when he called me to preach the gospel. During a normal Sunday evening church service in the Assembly of God church in Boyne City, Michigan, Pastor Bill Severance had just finished preaching and people were assembled around the altar for a time of prayer. As I knelt at the altar, I was doing some deep soul searching and reflective praying when, suddenly, the power of God hit me and I was prostrated on my face seemingly nailed to the floor. I lay there, conscious of what was going around me yet unable to move a muscle. I remember thinking, “I can’t even lift my fingers because I am so totally overpowered by God.” I was so completely absorbed by God I had no concept of time. Then it happened! God spoke to my heart. It was neither an audible voice nor a booming thunder from heaven but an inner revelation that swept over my whole being enlightening me to the fact that God had called me to preach His word. After that very intimate experience with God, it seemed that His power catapulted me to my feet. I began to run around the church exclaiming, “God has called me to preach, God has called me to preach!” This was so far from my character that I knew that it was of God. Yes, I was called to preach the gospel, but deep down in the portals of my understanding there was a further unfolding of God’s call to me. The specific mission was to prepare God’s people for His coming.
