DBASE From the Dot Prompt Book Excerpt:

This is an introduction to systems programming using dBASE IV as a first programming language. The author uses dBASE IV (version 1.1 or 1.5) because it is the easiest language to learn initially, and applications can be up and running more easily and quickly. This textbook is very easy to use. The results of commands are shown on monitor screens illustrated in the text. Page two begins the creation of a data base with immediate interaction with the computer. Students know exactly what they are doing because of the clear and concise explanations and because they have a view of their screens in the text. If the student's screen does not match, he or she can just backtrack. Little backtracking will be necessary because the language is so exact. The text is self-teaching.

The Dot On the I In History Of Gentiles and Jews a Hebrew Odyssey Scrolling the Internet Book Excerpt:

The inspiration author Michael B. Hammer received when speaking with others about the Israeli-Palestinian problem led to The Dot on the I in History: On Gentiles and Jews—Scrolling the Internet with the goal of helping others better understand the problem. When the issues involve intertribal, interracial, interreligious, and international human relationships lasting over several generations, they often become so complex one does not see the forest for trees, unless one knows where and when the seeds were planted. That is what history is all about. This book aspires to explain what Judaism, Christianity, and Islam have in common, how they differ, and how they have evolved. You’ll also learn how the Internet has affected and changed those involved in the Middle East conflict. With this information, you will have a better understanding of the real reasons for such world-changing events as what took place on 9/11.

Foundations of Information and Knowledge Systems Book Excerpt:

This volume contains the papers presented at the “Second International S- posium on Foundations of Information and Knowledge Systems” (FoIKS 2002), which was held in Schloß Salzau, Germany from February 20th to 23rd, 2002. FoIKS is a biennial event focusing on theoretical foundations of information and knowledge systems. It aims to bring together researchers working on the theoretical foundations of information and knowledge systems and to attract researchers working in mathematical ?elds such as discrete mathematics, c- binatorics, logics, and ?nite model theory who are interested in applying their theories to research on database and knowledge base theory. FoIKS took up the tradition of the conference series “Mathematical Fundamentals of Database S- tems” (MFDBS) which enabled East-West collaboration in the ?eld of database theory. The ?rst FoIKS symposium was held in Burg, Spreewald (Germany) in 2000. Former MFDBS conferences were held in Dresden (Germany) in 1987, Visegr ́ ad (Hungary) in 1989, and in Rostock (Germany) in 1991. Proceedings of these previous events were published by Springer-Verlag as volumes 305, 364, 495, and 1762 of the LNCS series. In addition the FoIKS symposium is intended to be a forum for intensive d- cussions. For this reason the time slot of long and short contributions is 60 and 30 minutes respectively, followed by 30 and 15 minutes for discussions, respectively. Furthermore, participants are asked in advance to prepare as correspondents to a contribution of another author. There are also special sessions for the pres- tation and discussion of open research problems.

Recent Trends in Theory of Physical Phenomena in High Magnetic Fields Book Excerpt:

A comprehensive collection of papers on theoretical aspects of electronic processes in simple and synthetic metals, superconductors, bulk and low-dimensional semiconductors under extreme conditions, such as high magnetic and electric fields, low and ultra-low temperatures. The main emphasis is on low-dimensional conductors and superconductors, where correlated electrons, interacting with magnetic or nonmagnetic impurities, phonons, photons, or nuclear spins, result in a variety of new physical phenomena, such as quantum oscillations in the superconducting state, Condon instability, Skyrmions and composite fermions in quantum Hall effect systems, and hyperfine field-induced mesoscopic and nanoscopic phenomena. Several new experimental achievements are reported that promise to delineate future trends in low temperature and high magnetic field physics, including the experimental observation of the interplay between superconductivity and nuclear spin ordering at ultra-low temperatures, new observations of Condon domains in normal metals, and an experimental proposal for the realisation of isotopically engineered, semiconductor-based spin-qubit elements for future quantum computation and communication technology.

International Conference on Theory and Application in Nonlinear Dynamics ICAND 2012 Book Excerpt:

A collection of different lectures presented by experts in the field of nonlinear science provides the reader with contemporary, cutting-edge, research works that bridge the gap between theory and device realizations of nonlinear phenomena. Representative examples of topics covered include: chaos gates, social networks, communication, sensors, lasers, molecular motors, biomedical anomalies, stochastic resonance, nano-oscillators for generating microwave signals and related complex systems. A common theme among these and many other related lectures is to model, study, understand, and exploit the rich behavior exhibited by nonlinear systems to design and fabricate novel technologies with superior characteristics. Consider, for instance, the fact that a shark’s sensitivity to electric fields is 400 times more powerful than the most sophisticated electric-field sensor. In spite of significant advances in material properties, in many cases it remains a daunting task to duplicate the superior signal processing capabilities of most animals. Since nonlinear systems tend to be highly sensitive to perturbations when they occur near the onset of a bifurcation, there are also lectures on the general topic of bifurcation theory and on how to exploit such bifurcations for signal enhancements purposes. This manuscript will appeal to researchers interested in both theory and implementations of nonlinear systems.

These papers address the latest research and development efforts and highlight the human aspects of design and use of computing systems. The papers accepted for presentation thoroughly cover the entire field of human-computer interaction, addressing major advances in knowledge and effective use of computers in a variety of application areas. The total of 230 contributions included in the UAHCI proceedings were carefully reviewed and selected for inclusion in this three-volume set. The 78 papers included in this volume are organized in the following topical sections: universal access to smart environments and ambient assisted living; universal access to learning and education; universal access to text, books, ebooks and digital libraries; health, well-being, rehabilitation and medical applications; access to mobile interaction.
