The Pale Horseman Book Excerpt:

THE PALE HORSEMAN the compelling sequel to the bestselling THE LAST KINGDOM. Uhtred, Northumbrian born, raised a Viking and now married to a Saxon, is already a formidable figure and warrior. But at twenty he is still arrogant, pagan and headstrong, so not a comfortable ally for the thoughtful, pious Alfred. But these two, with Alfred's family and a few of Uhtred's companions, are apparently all that remains of the Wessex leadership after a disastrous truce. It is the lowest time for the Saxons. Defeated comprehensively by the Vikings who now occupy most of England, Alfred and his surviving followers retreat to the trackless marshlands of Somerset. There, forced to move restlessly to escape betrayal or detection, using the marsh mists for cover, they travel by small boats from one island to another, hoping that they can regroup and find some more strength and support. They seek refuge in Athelney, a tidal swamp to which Alfred's kingdom has shrunk. Uhtred finds himself torn between his Danish foster brother and the winning Vikings, and his growing respect for the stubborn leadership of Alfred. and help them to take on the Vikings once more. THE PALE HORSEMAN is a splendid story of divided loyalties and desperate heroism, with a wonderful range of characters from Vikings to British kings in their Cornish fortresses, from political but passionate priests to enduring fishermen and farmers desperately striving to survive as the battle sweeps over them. Uhtred and Alfred, Vikings and Saxons, are a winning combination for Bernard Cornwell.

Divine Decrees III Book Excerpt:

This second edition adds about forty six pages to the first one and brings interesting declarations like, ‘Victory over the Edomite or Fainting Spirit, Prayers against Tongues of Backbiters, Gossips and Evil Spirits,’ etc. Prayer is the art and act of communicating with God. It is our link with heaven and the realms of the spirit. It is the power source of any human being who desires to succeed God’s way. Prayer is our most important Christian duty after righteousness. It is an art because we have to engage in it according to biblical principles. It is an act because prayer cannot be totally delegated but be embarked upon daily and incessantly for individual victory. Communication with our bridegroom becomes a necessity for meaningful relationship. Prayer is the life giving breath of a modern day Christian. God does not do anything without speaking forth and this is the ministry of the prophet. John reveals that, ‘in the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God (John1:1-3). God created the universe by spoken word. In the Hebrew language a word represents the very thing spoken because God created all things by His word. The word therefore defines the reality of the object. In the Hebrew the word for object devarim or dawbar is the same used for ‘word’ because a word does not just represent size, colour, shape but the very spiritual essence since it was the word that brought it into existence. God made Adam to name all the animals He created because Adam had the ability to speak like God and become co-creative by the spoken word. Speaking should be backed up with faith and that’s the reason why the spoken word is referred to as the spirit of faith. Our words are not supposed to be empty or void of power. God says, ‘so shall my words be that goes forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I send it.’ (Isaiah 55:11).

This Child s Gonna Live Book Excerpt:

“Sarah Wright's triumph in this novel is a celebration of life over death. It is, in every respect, an impressive achievement.”—The New York Times, 1969 “Often compared to the work of Zora Neale Hurston, the novel was unusual in its exploration of the black experience from a woman's perspective, anticipating fiction by writers like Toni Morrison and Alice Walker.”—The New York Times, 2009 Sarah Wright's searing yet lyrical story of a Southern black woman's life during the Depression—a period seldom accounted for in African-American literature— is as compelling as her protagonist's insistence that "this child's gonna live." In this lost literary masterpiece by a seminal figure in the Black Arts movement, a husband and wife struggle amidst the poverty of Maryland's Eastern Shore during the 1930s. "Saturated in harsh beauty," declares Tillie Olsen, "this book has been and still is for me one of the most important and indispensable books published in my lifetime." Sarah E. Wright, novelist and poet, was a former vice president of the Harlem Writers Guild and coauthor of Give Me a Child. She died at age 80 in New York City.
