The Screwtape Letters is a Christian apologetic novel. It is written in a satirical, epistolary style and while it is fictional in format, the plot and characters are used to address Christian theological issues, primarily those to do with temptation and resistance to it. The story takes the form of a series of letters from a senior Demon Screwtape to his nephew Wormwood, a Junior Tempter. The uncle's mentorship pertains to the nephew's responsibility for securing the damnation of a British man known only as "the Patient". In The Screwtape Letters, C. S. Lewis provides a series of lessons in the importance of taking a deliberate role in Christian faith by portraying a typical human life, with all its temptations and failings, seen from devils' viewpoints. Lewis wrote the sequel Screwtape Proposes a Toast - a critique of certain trends in British public education (Although Britain calls its major private schools "public schools", Lewis is referring to state schools when he criticizes "public education"). Clive Staples Lewis (1898-1963) was a British novelist, poet, academic, medievalist, lay theologian and Christian apologist. He is best known for his fictional work, especially The Screwtape Letters, The Chronicles of Narnia, and The Space Trilogy, and for his non-fiction Christian apologetics, such as Mere Christianity, Miracles, and The Problem of Pain.

The Screwtape Letters, a satirical novel that focuses on the religious struggle of one unnamed man, is one of the most influential works of C.S. Lewis. The story unfolds through the eyes of Screwtape, a highly placed under-secretary to Lucifer, affectionately known as 'Our Father Below'. Through a series of letters addressed his nephew, Wormwood, a young demon tasked only with securing the hellish eternity of the anonymous man, Screwtape bestows knowledge on how to capture a soul. Throughout his letters to Wormwood, we learn that the religious peaks and valleys of Wormwood's patient are set against the backdrop of wartime England. Originally published in book form in early 1942, World War II plays a big part in the novel. Screwtape himself does not pay much heed to war and advises his nephew to do the same, but the human patient faces seemingly endless German bombing raids and the uncomfortable daily reminder that he is mortal and can die at just about any moment. The war, in fact, ultimately plays a pivotal role in sealing the patient's eternity.

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 The problem with argument is that it moves the debate onto the enemy’s ground. While he can argue, he is vastly inferior to Our Father Below in practical propaganda. #2 Remember, he is not a pure spirit. They are extremely difficult to believe in the unfamiliar while the familiar is before their eyes. Do not attempt to use science as a defense against Christianity.

He's baaack! That infernal demon, Screwtape, from C. S. Lewis's classic book, The Screwtape Letters, has returned. Screwtape is armed with a "Master Plan" designed to acidify and ultimately destroy the cultural tapestries of a critical region of the world and the humans therein. In a series of lectures delivered to a legion of demons, Screwtape highlights key principles and tactics for twisting human thinking and behavior in the areas of materialism, sexuality, intergroup relationships, self-actualization, work and vocation, and understandings of Jesus. Screwtape's ultimate objective is to snuff out God's light in the region by encouraging Christians to assimilate to prevailing cultural norms or withdraw into their own "cultural bubbles" rather than faithfully integrate into the cultures around them. Through a process known as the "Amishification of the Church," Screwtape expects the Christian church to become a minor backwater institution in the region by the end of the twenty-first century.
