Description : Much of Poe's picturesque personality, as well as his literary career, is inseparably associated with the "Southern Literary Messenger." The present volume is the first & only extended separate attempt for a fuller study of Poe's connection with the "Messenger." The inclusion of the complete letters of T. W. White to Lucian Minor, as well as letters to Beverly Tucker from White, is an important addition to the "Poe-Messenger" record.

It is highly unlikely that this would occur with one of our books. Our extensive quality control ensures that the readers of Trieste Publishing's books will be delighted with their purchase. Our staff has thoroughly reviewed every page of all the books in the collection, repairing, or if necessary, rejecting titles that are not of the highest quality. This process ensures that the reader of one of Trieste Publishing's titles receives a volume that faithfully reproduces the original, and to the maximum degree possible, gives them the experience of owning the original work.We pride ourselves on not only creating a pathway to an extensive reservoir of books of the finest quality, but also providing value to every one of our readers. Description : Excerpt from The Southern Literary Messenger, 1843, Vol. 9: Devoted to Every Department of Literature and the Fine Arts What motive had she to separate herself forever from her friends - from society - from her child, to bid a lasting adieu to that distinction she would have reached, to that fame she would have acquired, and to that consequence she would have merited! She had no inclination to the veil, and though, per haps, her misfortunes and those of her husband, might have produced a temporary love of solitude, she could not have believed it her duty to make so great and so painful a sacrifice. She wished, at least, to have the privilege of becoming a rolun tary recluse, without the tie of eternal vows. But the cold blooded eunuch peremptorily ordered her to comply - she yielded. Description : Excerpt from The Southern Literary Messenger, 1850, Vol. 16: Devoted to Every Department of Literature and the Fine Arts Wife, my heart is yearning for you, For your fond and winning ways. Come and take this darkness from me, Let me fiud again your praise. How you love me! Sweet, your kisses Have not grown more cold or few Though in place of sunny meadows, Cheerless paths I've led you through. But my heart I think grows older. Once the birds were sweet to hear; Blooming hewers touched me kindly, Spring and Fall alike were fair. Now I scarcely heed a blossom Brushing past my cheek, and dim Strikes the sunshine through the forest. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Description : Caught from some unhappy master whom unmerciful Disaster Followed fast and followed faster till his songs one burden bore- Till the dirges of his Hope that melancholy burden bore Of "never-never more!" THIS stanza from "The Raven" was recommended by James Russell Lowell as an inscription upon the Baltimore monument which marks the resting place of Edgar Allan Poe, the most interesting and original figure in American letters. And, to signify that peculiar musical quality of Poe's genius which inthralls every reader, Mr. Lowell suggested this additional verse, from the "Haunted Palace": And all with pearl and ruby glowing Was the fair palace door, Through which came flowing, flowing, flowing, And sparkling ever more, A troop of Echoes, whose sweet duty Was but to sing, In voices of surpassing beauty, The wit and wisdom of their king. Born in poverty at Boston, January 19 1809, dying under painful circumstances at Baltimore, October 7, 1849, his whole literary career of scarcely fifteen years a pitiful struggle for mere subsistence, his memory malignantly misrepresented by his earliest biographer, Griswold, how completely has truth at last routed falsehood and how magnificently has Poe come into his own, For "The Raven," first published in 1845, and, within a few months, read, recited and parodied wherever the English language was spoken, the half-starved poet received $10! Less than a year later his brother poet, N. P. Willis, issued this touching appeal to the admirers of genius on behalf of the neglected author, his dying wife and her devoted mother, then living under very straitened circumstances in a little cottage at Fordham, N. Y.:
