Description : 'David Marquet is the kind of leader who comes around only once in a generation ... his ideas and lessons are invaluable' Simon Sinek, author of Start With Why Captain David Marquet was used to giving orders. In the high-stress environment of the USS Santa Fe, a nuclear-powered submarine, it was crucial his men did their job well. But the ship was dogged by poor morale, poor performance and the worst retention in the fleet. One day, Marquet unknowingly gave an impossible order, and his crew tried to follow it anyway. He realized he was leading in a culture of followers, and they were all in danger unless they fundamentally changed the way they did things. Marquet took matters into his own hands and pushed for leadership at every level. Before long, his crew became fully engaged and the Santa Fe skyrocketed from worst to first in the fleet. No matter your business or position, you can apply Marquet's approach to create a workplace where everyone takes responsibility for their actions, people are healthier and happier - and everyone is a leader. In his latest book, Leadership is Language, Marquet builds on what he teaches in Turn the Ship Around!, showing us how to lead our teams to success through the language that we use.

Description : The acclaimed author of Turn the Ship Around! shows leaders how to empower their team through better communication Few of us realize that our language in the workplace inhibits creative problem-solving and escalates uncertainty and stress. In both high-pressure situations and everyday scenarios, in each meeting and email, we have the opportunity to empower our colleagues by using the right words. In Leadership Is Language, Former US navy captain David Marquet expands on his bestselling leadership book Turn the Ship Around! and shows managers and leaders the next step in their development: how to enable their team through communication. Marquet outlines a set of principles and tools that help leaders inspire their people to take responsibility and address challenges without waiting to be told what to do, highlighting how small changes in language can lead to dramatic changes in a team's success and happiness. Praise for Turn the Ship Around!: 'I don't know of a finer model of this kind of empowering leadership than Captain Marquet. And in the pages that follow you will find a model for your pathway' Stephen R. Covey, author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People 'To say I'm a fan of David Marquet would be an understatement... I'm a fully fledged groupie. He is the kind of leader who comes around only once a generation. He is the kind of leader who doesn't just know how to lead, he knows how to build leaders. His ideas and lessons are invaluable to anyone who wants to build an organization that will outlive them' Simon Sinek, optimist and author of Start with Why

Description : Growing up poor was not easy for a young Chinese girl. Though mentally suited for any job, the social norms of her culture denied this fearless scrapper the ability to make her own way. Refusing to live the life of a peasant, she chose a life of prostitution. It was this road that led her to meet and marry the infamous pirate captain, Zheng. This sudden gift from the gods gave her the tools to become the most powerful woman in all of China. Zheng Shih (also known as: Cheng Shih or Cheng I Sao), was the most successful pirate known to history. In her prime, she held command of well over 300 battle-ready vessels. Her power was so great, she even fought and defeated attacks from the British, Portuguese and Chinese Empires. Her true testimony of strength is shown in the fact she is also one of the few pirates able to 'retire' from piracy and live the rest of her life in peace.

Description : A democracy should reflect the views of its citizens and offer a direct connection between government and those it serves. So why, more than ever, does it seem as if our government exists in its own bubble, detached from us? In reality, our democracy is not performing as it should, which has left us fed up with a system we no longer trust. Moreover, we lack a mechanism to fix what's broken, because there is no incentive for politicians and civil servants to make government more accountable, efficient, and representative. Saqib Iqbal Qureshi is calling on his fellow citizens to assert their voice in the dialogue of democracy. In The Broken Contract, he puts forth solutions-many involving easy-to-implement technologies. It's up to us to turn the ship around. If you're looking for the best way to start a conversation with your elected and unelected officials, this is the book you need.

Description : Are your Daily/Monthly Sales Figures for your eBook and Paperback Sales ... FLAT? The key to successful books (and by that I mean lots of people buying your book!) is in the research that goes into it prior to writing one damn word. Yes - RESEARCH. Ugh. You're either a lover, or hater, of research. I was in the latter camp. I now know it's the necessary FIRST STEP before ONE WORD comes out of my fingertips. If you're just starting out or have been writing for sometime and are seeing little-to-no monetary return for your hours and hours of writing - read this book. I'm qualified to give this advice because this is what happened to me over the past nine years - until recently. Look, I know - it's much more fun to be writing, and creating plot twists and turns. Or for the "how-to" authors, it's exhilarating to show and help others how to do this, that, and the other. But what isn't fun is feeling like your work is a load of crap because it's not selling. If the product you are creating (or have created) is a load of crap, it will not sell to anyone, anywhere, anytime. So how do you make sure that what you are writing is NOT going to be a worthless load of crap and maybe - just maybe - the next best seller? Please understand that I'm not saying your book is full of bad stuff (i.e. crap). What I'm saying is it might as well be, if no one wants to buy and read it. We all start out writing with good intentions, fully convinced (guessing, more like), that what we're writing about will fill the needs and desires of hungry buyers who are waiting breathlessly for our books. The sad fact is they aren't sitting around waiting, and if your book is not full of targeted information that they are expecting, you know - full of research that you spent time doing, prior to going to press - then your book isn't going anywhere. You need to do your prep work. I'm not talking about organizing chapters, researching content etc. I'm talking about prep work in the form of MARKET research before you even begin typing! How do you write a book that will sell? And that, my writer friend, is the $60,000 question. If you've got lackluster sales, you have got to recognize that there is a pattern here. The pattern-repeat problem is: The putting out of a book, hoping for the best, then creating a website for the book, doing Facebook posts. But that's NOT the problem. So what is? Hint: RESEARCH prior to writing, or lack thereof. So the big question is, "If you know you have been guilty of doing this, then what exactly have have you done differently to prevent the pattern-repeat?" If the answer is nothing, then you're at the right place to turn this ship around. We have to STOP jumping into new projects with our fingers crossed. We have to STOP wishing and hoping that "This book will be the one to bring home the bacon and stop my relatives from ridiculing me." We have to STOP berating ourselves when the book sales fall flat. But research is boring - or it USED TO BE. I'll show you how to make it FUN with cool tools and tips from the pros. * * * Throughout the book I've included links to quite a few (free and paid) cool tools that have helped me tremendously to finally put out sh*t that sells. As a "heads up" I do not receive a dime from any of these recommendations. To some people that would be a stupid thing to do (not earn a dime for referrals) but to others, it's the right thing to do. You can decide which side of the fence you're on!;-) Add this book to your cart now, and start producing books that sell tomorrow.

Description : TURNING THE SHIP AROUND Joe Ferreira specializes in spectacular turnarounds. However, none of Joe's hard-won personal or professional successes prepared him for becoming the CEO of an organization the same week it was threatened with imminent dissolution by the United States government. Faced with a toxic legacy culture and the worst performance metrics in his industry, Joe drew upon his most momentous personal and professional life experiences--almost failing out of high school, captaining a boat through the treacherous currents of the Bermuda Triangle, letting go of micromanagement tendencies by delegating critical medical procedures--to keep a lifesaving enterprise from losing its federal certification. A management memoir, the story of Uncomfortable Inclusion will intrigue, infuriate, and inspire leaders who are eager to turn their organizations into world leaders. As the title suggests, the book's most engaging and enlightening takeaway is Joe's ultimate commitment to uncomfortable inclusion, a management practice he proves is the single most important factor for success. Joe's trials, tribulations, and ultimately sustainable triumphs as part of the journey of transforming a company from terrible to trailblazing offers encouragement to leaders on how to best invest in their company to achieve great results.

Description : The Missing Link to Toyota-Style Success—LEAN LEADERSHIP Winner of the 2012 Shingo Research and Professional Publications Award “This great book reveals the secret ingredient to lean success: lean leadership. Not only is it a pleasure to read, but it is also deep and enlightening. This book is an absolute must-read for anyone interested in lean: it’s both an eye opener and a game changer.” —Michael Ballé, Ph.D., coauthor of The Gold Mine and The Lean Manager “This will immediately be recognized as the most important book ever published to understand and guide ‘True North Lean’ and the goal of perpetual business excellence.” —Ross E. Robson, President and CEO, DnR Lean, LLC, and the original Director of The Shingo Prize “An excellent book that will shape leadership development for decades to come.” —Karen Martin, Principal, Karen Martin & Associates, and author of The Kaizen Event Planner About the Book: TOYOTA. The name signifies greatness— world-class cars and game-changing business thinking. One key to the Toyota Motor Company’s unprecedented success is its famous production system and its lesser-known product development program. These strategies consider the end user at every turn and have become the model for the global lean business movement. All too often, organizations adopting lean miss the most critical ingredient—lean leadership. Toyota makes enormous investments in carefully selecting and intensively developing leaders who fit its unique philosophy and culture. Thanks to the company’s lean leadership approach, explains Toyota Way author Jeffrey Liker and former Toyota executive Gary Convis, the celebrated carmaker has set into motion a drive for continuous improvement at all levels of its business. This has allowed for: Constant growth: Toyota increased profitability for 58 consecutive years—slowing down only in the face of 2008’s worldwide financial difficulties, the recall crisis, and the worst Japanese earthquake of the century. Unstoppable inventiveness: Toyota’s approach to innovative thinking and problem solving has resulted in top industry ratings and incredible customer satisfaction, while allowing the company to weather these three crises in rapid succession and to come out stronger. Strong branding and respect: Toyota’s reputation was instrumental in the company’s ability to withstand the recalls-driven media storm of 2010. But what looked to some to be a sinking ship is once again running under a full head of steam. Perhaps the Toyota culture had weakened, but lean leadership was the beacon that showed the way back. In fact, writes Liker, the company is “as good and perhaps a better model for lean leadership than it ever has been.” of innovation and growth. Yet, Industry Week reports that just 2 percent of companies using lean processes can likewise claim to have had long-term success. What the other 98 percent lack is unified leadership with a common method and philosophy. If you want to get lean, you have to take it to the leadership level. The Toyota Way to Lean Leadership shows you how.
