Description : This innovative textbook at long last provides an Old Testament survey for undergraduate students that goes beyond basic content. The book attempts to balance the literary, historical, and theological issues pertaining to each individual book and to the Old Testament as a whole. The main portion of the survey treats each book of the Old Testament in the order of the English canon. This information does not simply rehash the biblical material, but assumes that the Scriptures are being read alongside the survey. The book focuses its primary attention on the purpose and message of each book and attempts to show how the literary structure of each one has been used to accomplish the author's purpose. The survey also introduces readers to the issues of hermeneutics (general and special), history (Israelite and Near Eastern), archaeology, canon, geography, Old Testament theology (biblical and systematic), and critical methodologies. All these issues are dealt with in separate chapters at a basic introductory level that never allows the reader to lose sight, as it were, of the forest while wandering through the trees. In addressing critical issues of date and authorship, the survey avoids a polemical stance. Hill and Watson seek to depend on the evidence of the text rather than on presuppositions to substantiate their views. Their commitment to the authority of the biblical text results in a book that, while notably evangelical, is not always traditional. The authors approach the survey mindful of two complicating factors in Old Testament study. First, God's revelation did not come by way of the English language or through Western culture, and therefore we today have to work carefully to receive the message clearly. Second, even when we are listening, we have a tendency to be selective about what we hear or to try to make the message conform to our ideas. The solution is to allow the Bible to speak for itself. The informed reader will find much innovation here and a keen awareness of current scholarship relating to the Old Testament. Above all, this textbook will bring a new vigor and excitement to the Old Testament as readers learn to discover its story for themselves and see how to understand it as a substantial part of God's self-revelation to humankind. This survey is well illustrated with maps, charts, and photographs. Additional features are the questions for study and the annotated reading list at the end of each chapter.

Description : This book challenges its audience to become so equipped with God's Word as to be able to neutralize unbiblical dogmas that today's children are learning and explores the existence and nature of God, creation, sin, Old Testament heroes, the life of Christ, salvation, and the Christian's eventual grand becoming, like our glorious Lord. Joyce May Neverson is an evangelical Christian of Afro-West Indian descent who has devoted most of her life (from 1960 to the present) to Christian education via Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and AWANA children and youth ministries. Apart from her being a life-long student of the Bible, over the years Ms. Neverson has taken several teacher training courses offered by Child Evangelism Fellowship and other such training entities offering programs geared to honing the skills needed for the effective communication of God's word to children and youth. She studied nonfiction with Longridge Writing Group between 1998 and 2001 (she also holds a Poet Laureate certificate, received in September 2003 from The International Library of Poetry). From 1983 to the present, Ms. Neverson has served as editor for Now - God's Time - a quarterly periodical published under the auspices of The Good Tidings Gospel Chapel here in Brooklyn, New York, where she, along with her husband Daril and family, have fellowshipped since 1972. She is the mother of three married children - Lois, a nurse coordinator, Stephen, a music school teacher, and Warren, a seminary student - who, along with their spouses are all committed Christians Ms. Neverson's education, training, and 36 years' experience as a registered nurse (now retired) allow her to bring unique perspectives to bear on some of the topics she discusses in her book, The Grand Becoming, topics such as: evolution and intelligent design.

Description : Welcome to the sociopolitical, ethnocultural, social, religious and spiritual reality in the Roman province of Judea 2000 years ago, where Jesus Christ is not just a religious and political leader since none of the biblical sources allow us to hold this viewpoint. Furthermore, the personality, who has a great deal of moral and ethical, ethnocultural and social political influence over millions of people before being born, is killed by the religious leaders and unloved by the political and power factors.Christ prefers the cross to the crown and shows that the crown always precedes the cross. On his way he faces and crushes religious taboos, infuriating the religious leaders beyond belief and becomes the leader of the greatest spiritual revolution in the history of mankind. After the birth, the mission, the death and the resurrection of Christ the whole world transforms.

Description : This self-study guide offers a look at Israel after the Babylonian exile and the prophecies that were revealed during that time. Haggai made four appeals to the people, including a call to construct the Temple and to have confidence in the future. Zechariah continued to encourage the people to finish the Temple and relayed visions and other prophecies. And when the people became complacent, Malachi was God's instrument for rebuking them for their neglect of God and then teaching what true worship is. The books in the Jensen Bible Self-Study Guide series are designed to provide you with a broader understanding of God’s Word. Offering historical context and background, author information, charts, and other helps, these books will equip you with a comprehensive reference tool you’ll return to often. Each study includes an opportunity for analysis, response, and further study in a response-oriented format. The thirty-nine books in this series are suitable for both personal and group use.

Description : A New York Times Bestseller! In Finding Jesus in the Old Testament, David Limbaugh unlocks the mysteries of the Old Testament and reveals hints of Jesus Christ's arrival through all thirty-nine Old Testament books. The key to the secrets of the Old Testament, Limbaugh argues, is the crucial New Testament encounter between the risen Jesus and two travelers on the road to Emmaus. With that key, and with Limbaugh as a deft guide, readers of Finding Jesus in the Old Testament will come to a startling new understanding of the Old Testament as a clear and powerful heralding of Jesus Christ's arrival. Limbaugh takes readers on a revealing journey from Genesis through Malachi, demonstrating that a consistent message courses through every one of the Old Testament's thirty-nine books: the power, wonder, and everlasting love of Jesus Christ. Previously published under the title The Emmaus Code.
