Antologi. Indeholder en undersøgelse af de transatlantiske forbindelser siden terrorangrebene d. 11. september 2001 i USA samt den efterfølgende krig i Irak. Early Visions and Representations of America Book Excerpt:

When the Europeans first arrived in America, they had a number of preconceptions, prejudices, expectations and hopes about what life in the New World would be like. This book examines the different visions and representations of America conveyed in the writings of Spanish conquistador Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca and the Pilgrim leader William Bradford, taking both writers within their respective literary and historical contexts. Anthologies of American literature have consistently ignored Spanish-language achievements on the grounds of a restrictive interpretation of American literature based on linguistic boundaries. Consequently, Spanish-language texts such as Cabeza de Vaca's or the account by the Hidalgo de Elvas, to name but two examples, have been marginalized in the narrative of American literary history. In seeking to redress this neglect, Galisteo contributes to scholarship which seeks to analyze Early America as a whole, including not only Anglo American perspectives but also the Spanish American aspect of the colonization process.

Rival Visions Book Excerpt:

The emergence of the early American republic as a new nation on the world stage conjured rival visions in the eyes of leading statesmen at home and attentive observers abroad. Thomas Jefferson envisioned the newly independent states as a federation of republics united by common experience, mutual interest, and an adherence to principles of natural rights. His views on popular government and the American experiment in republicanism, and later the expansion of its empire of liberty, offered an influential account of the new nation. While persuasive in crucial respects, his vision of early America did not stand alone as an unrivaled model. The contributors to Rival Visions examine how Jefferson’s contemporaries—including Washington, Adams, Hamilton, Madison, and Marshall—articulated their visions for the early American republic. Even beyond America, in this age of successive revolutions and crises, foreign statesmen began to formulate their own accounts of the new nation, its character, and its future prospects. This volume reveals how these vigorous debates and competing rival visions defined the early American republic in the formative epoch after the revolution.

American Science Fiction Film and Television Book Excerpt:

American Science Fiction Film and Television presents a critical history of late 20th Century SF together with an analysis of the cultural and thematic concerns of this popular genre. Science fiction film and television were initially inspired by the classic literature of H.G. Wells and Jules Verne. The potential and fears born with the Atomic age fuelled the popularity of the genre, upping the stakes for both technology and apocalypse. From the Cold War through to America's current War on Terror, science fiction has proved a subtle vehicle for the hopes, fears and preoccupations of a nation at war.The definitive introduction to American science fiction, this book is also the first study to analyze SF across both film and TV. Throughout, the discussion is illustrated with critical case studies of key films and television series, including The Day the Earth Stood Still, Planet of the Apes, Star Trek: The Next Generation, The X-Files, and Battlestar Galactica.

America s Vision vs God s Standard of Justice Book Excerpt:

This book examines God’s standard of righteousness and justice as revealed to the nation of Israel and then compares those standards with America’s progressive vision. It discusses this nation’s three major branches of government—i.e., executive, legislative, and judicial—relative to America’s perception of national authority and justice. It also considers specific contemporary domestic, economic, and foreign policy issues to determine if America’s priorities compare with God’s revealed standards. A major Scripture reference will be, “Now all these things happened to them (Israelites) as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.” (1 Corinthians 10:11) A comprehensive chapter on the Middle East entitled “The Fertile Crescent: Geographic Center of Prophecy” presents biblical evidence that this age will end where it all began. The study also offers in this context a unique perspective on the final world kingdom based on both biblical prophecy and Islamic literature. More than five hundred Scripture passages containing more than one thousand verses are referenced and quoted from twenty-six books of the Old Testament and twenty-four books of the New Testament. This book is ideally suited for group Bible studies in addition to enhancing individual understanding of the requirements for national success based on biblical teachings.
