Description : "Public figures as you rarely if ever hear them: strikingly personal, surprisingly open, and profoundly emotional." — Entertainment Weekly "I’m British, so I’m medically dead inside, but even I can’t help but open up whenever I talk to Marc. He uses his honestly like a scalpel, cutting himself open in front of anyone he’s talking to, and in doing so, invites you to do the same." —John Oliver From the beloved and wildly popular podcast WTF with Marc Maron comes a book of intimate, hilarious and life changing conversations with some of the funniest, and most important people in the world like you’ve never heard them before. Waiting for the Punch features the stories and thoughts of such luminaries as Amy Schumer, Mel Brooks, Will Ferrell, Amy Poehler, Sir Ian McKellen, Lorne Michels, Judd Apatow, Lena Dunham, Jimmy Fallon, RuPaul, Louis CK, David Sedaris, Bruce Springsteen, and President Obama. This book is not simply a collection of these interviews, but instead something more wondrous: a running narrative of the world’s most recognizable names working through the problems, doubts, joys, triumphs, and failures we all experience. With each chapter covering a different topic: parenting, childhood, relationships, sexuality, success, failures and others, Punch becomes a sort of everyman’s guide to life. Barack Obama candidly discusses the challenges of the presidency, and the bittersweet moments of seeing your children grow up. Amy Schumer recounts the pain of her parents’ divorce. Molly Shannon uproariously remembers the time she and her best friend hopped a plane from Ohio to New York City when they were twelve on a dare. Amy Poehler dishes on why just because you become a parent doesn’t mean you have to like anybody else’s kids but your own. Bruce Springsteen expounds on the dual nature of desperation to both motivate and devastate. Full of stories that are at once laugh-out loud funny, heartbreakingly honest, joyous, tragic and powerful, Waiting for the Punch is a book to be read from cover to cover, but it is also one to return to again and again.

Description : Fannie Flagg has enchanted readers with her warm, wonderful, and witty books for nearly forty years. Now this delightful eBook bundle showcases three of her classic novels—full of heart and smart and refreshing as sweet tea on a hot summer day. FRIED GREEN TOMATOES AT THE WHISTLE STOP CAFE “It’s very good, in fact, just wonderful.”—Los Angeles Times Folksy and fresh, endearing and affecting, Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe is the now-classic novel of two women in the 1980s: of gray-headed Mrs. Threadgoode telling her life story to Evelyn, who is in the sad slump of middle age. The tale Mrs. Threadgoode tells is also of two women—of the irrepressibly daredevilish tomboy Idgie and her friend Ruth—who back in the thirties ran a little place in Whistle Stop, Alabama, a Southern kind of Cafe Wobegon offering good barbecue and good coffee and all kinds of love and laughter, even an occasional murder. And as the past unfolds, the present—for Evelyn and for us—will never be quite the same again. . . . CAN'T WAIT TO GET TO HEAVEN “Funny and utterly charming.”—The Miami Herald It’s the strangest thing. One minute Elner Shimfissle is up in her tree, picking figs in Elmwood, Missouri, and the next thing she knows she is off on an adventure she never dreamed of, running into people she never in a million years expected to meet. Meanwhile, back in Elmwood Springs, Elner’s high-strung niece Norma faints and winds up in bed with a cold cloth on her head; Elner’s neighbor Verbena rushes immediately to the Bible; her truck driver friend, Luther Griggs, runs his eighteen-wheeler into a ditch; and the entire town is thrown for a loop. In this comedy-mystery, those near and dear to Elner discover something wonderful. I STILL DREAM ABOUT YOU “Undoubtedly [Flagg’s] wisest book, comic and compassionate.”—Richmond Times-Dispatch Meet Maggie Fortenberry, a still beautiful former Miss Alabama. To others, Maggie’s life seems practically perfect—she’s lovely, charming, and a successful agent at Red Mountain Realty. Still, Maggie can’t help but wonder how she wound up living a life so different from the one she dreamed of as a child. But just when things seem completely hopeless, and the secrets of Maggie’s past drive her to a radical plan to solve it all, Maggie discovers, quite by accident, that everybody, it seems, has at least one little secret. Praise for Fannie Flagg “A born storyteller.”—The New York Times Book Review “What [Flagg] writes about, time and again, are the touching, terrifying, heartbreaking, hysterical, extraordinary, everyday things that make us human.”—Southern Living “Courageous and wise.”—Houston Chronicle, on Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe “A thoroughly entertaining comic novel.”—Newsday, on Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe “The characters are endearing, the story is engaging. . . . A comforting and sometimes thought-provoking read.”—Fort Worth Star-Telegram, on Can’t Wait to Get to Heaven “A fun and rollicking Nancy Drew mystery for grown-ups.”—The Birmingham News, on I Still Dream About You

Description : English teens on vacation in Italy are caught up in a murderous conspiracy, from the Edgar Award–winning author of the Chronicles of Brother Cadfael. On a train ride across Northern Italy, a quartet of young English tourists en route to Venice are charmed by a kindly older fellow passenger. Inviting them into his first-class compartment, their new friend, Signore Galassi, beguiles them with stories, anecdotes, and fascinating facts about the lush Italian countryside. But once the train deposits them all in Turin, a dark cloud settles over the Brits’ carefree holiday. After discovering that their elderly traveling companion has been brutally attacked and robbed, the distraught students vow to scour this unfamiliar city and find his assailant. Unbeknownst to the young British visitors, they have something in their possession that ties into a greater, even more terrible crime. Their hunt could have unexpected and very deadly consequences, for now their quarry is hunting them. The Edgar, Agatha, and Gold Dagger Award–winning author of the Brother Cadfael Mysteries is “highly recommended for those who still like a proper five course whodunit with all the trimmings” (The Sunday Times).

Description : Chris Henderson formed the Chelsea Headhunters – who later earned a reputation as the most dangerous fans in Britain - as well as the band Combat 84 who, with their punk attitude and uncut, Orwellian lyrics, represented the antithesis of middle-class England. After the jailing of Stephen 'Hickey' Hickmott, Henderson organised a gang of Chelsea fans who travelled to matches by luxury coach with the aim of causing havoc and destruction. They were finally arrested and their subsequent trial was meant to be the crowning glory of Thatcher's campaign to vanquish hooliganism. Instead, the dramatic collapse of the case sounded the death knell for all the undercover police operations and mass indiscriminate arrests that had been ordered by the authorities to squash the activities of Henderson and others. The 'Ministry' continued to pursue Henderson and prior to the 2002 World Cup, he and Hickmott were named as the two leaders planning hooligan and criminal acts for the tournament in South Korea and Japan, which culminated in Henderson being arrested and refused entry to Japan for the England v. Argentina match. Told in Henderson's exact words, this is the dramatic story of an era of music and football, when how you looked counted as much as how you performed. With its depiction of events surrounding South Korea/Japan 2002, Who Wants It? also shows how the scourge of hooliganism continues to blight the beautiful game today.
