Originally coined by the American military to describe a situation fraught with a variety of challenges, it now has a permanent place in the realms of strategic leadership. Those who have made it into an enterprise management role are finding that their leadership skills are truly being tried and tested on account of the volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous environment we are in. Warm, practical, and appealing down-to-earth, Taking Charge When You're Not in Control offers real solutions to difficult everyday issues. Dr. Wiklund argues that being a victim is fundamentally a state of mind. Even if we can't change outside events, we can change the way we react. That's charge now, we become freer, stronger, and more fully ourselves. This complete program of self-understanding includes how to • Confront—and defuse—the "out of control" people in our lives • Stop the labeling, blaming, shaming, and feeling guilty game • Achieve real change without relying on conventional self-help programs • Release yourself from the victim mentality once and for all • Let go, forgive, and feel your absolute strongest emotionally • Free yourself of anxiety, self-doubt, anger, and frustration And much more Taking Charge When You're Not in Control is not a recovery book but rather a book about being—and feeling—recovered. Description : Where do we turn when we are confronted with adversity and pain? Who can help us when life is overwhelming and we find ourselves alone? Many of us know that in these darkest moments, God is always there for us. But when you are not exposed to faith or Christianity, it can be hard to trust someone with whom you are unfamiliar. In Here, Jesus ... Catch!, author Jean Smith shares her heartfelt personal journey to find her faith and God’s way amid both a childhood and an adult life of alcoholism, abuse, tragedy, and loss. Jean grew up in a dysfunctional home, and yet even as she left one life of adversity, she faced it again as her high school sweetheart and husband suddenly died, leaving her with a two-month-old baby. Running to fight the pain, enduring one hardship after another, and managing a new marriage with a blended family afflicted by drugs, alcohol, and so much more, she learned how there was no way possible that she could do it on her own. Only through Christ has Jean been able to overcome the adversity, the pain, and the trauma of life, and she continues this fight to this very day. While Jean found the love of Jesus at a very young age, she hopes that anyone experiencing similar circumstances will have hope in Jesus Christ. He will not give up on you—and he sure didn’t give up on her.

Description : There has never been a motivational book like Turning To into For. Based on the author's philosophy that the most important of life's lessons are preceded by a test, the book is composed of two parts: the test and the lesson. The test: the autobiographical first part is the riveting story of a boy who was abandoned as a toddler and left to grow up in an abusive foster home where he was abused, molested, and encouraged to steal until at age nine, when he was given a gun and taken under the wings of the neighborhood gang leader. The lesson: the second part will empower the reader as the author shares the life's lessons, born of unimaginable pain and suffering, which enabled him to, with only a ninth grade education, become an international computer consultant. Inspired to teach the principles that enabled him to escape becoming a tragic statistic, he abandoned a very lucrative career, founded a nonprofit organization, and became an internationally renowned educator, recognized, among other honors, by the George W. Bush White House for his work with at-risk and underprivileged populations. The power of these lessons was called on once again when in 2014 cancer struck. Through treatment and faith, the cancer was eradicated, but the author was left paralyzed from the waist down. The amazing result of what could have ended in tragedy was the reemergence of one of America's most dynamic motivational speakers. Turning To Into For will inspire you, empower you, and teach you the principles of what the author has demonstrated, by way of his remarkable life, that which will help you to overcome the obstacles that cause so many of us to fail. The concepts and strategies in this work will strengthen you and help you to develop a powerful, relentless mental attitude that refuses to accept defeat. "I never lose. I either win or learn, but I never ever lose."

Description : Lying. Cheating. Manipulating. Will they ever change? What will it take to get through to them? They apologized, but will this time be different...or will they just get better at hiding what they are up to? This book will help you get out of the fog of confusion and into the clarity you are looking for. FOG is an acronym that stands for "Fear, Obligation, and Guilt." These three emotions are often at the core of manipulation, and are often how narcissists, sociopaths, and other types of emotional manipulators go about controlling their targets. However, this type of destructive manipulation isn't just limited to narcissists and sociopaths. There is no shortage of people with well-intended bad advice out there who unintentionally fall into the FOG as well, and push targets of abuse into keeping the relationship going. The FOG is one of the main reasons that people stay "stuck" in abusive relationships for so long, why they continue to get involved with abusive people, why they feel that they are the problem, and why they tend to feel that the abuse is somehow their fault. When a person is being manipulated they have a hard time figuring out who has the problem, what is normal, what is problematic, and if their wants, needs, and feelings are valid. The disasterous effects of being lost in the FOG are confusion, crazymaking, people pleasing, and an erosion of boundaries. What makes this well-intended bad advice so damaging is that, on the surface, it seems like good advice--especially if it's coming from people who seem to have our best interests in mind, such as friends, family, church members, support group members, or a therapist. Some examples of this well-intended bad advice that comes from other people is: "Who are you to judge?" "No one is perfect." "You need to forgive them." "She's your mother, you need to have a relationship with her...she's not getting any younger you know." "Commitment is forever." What can be so crazymaking for targets is that they are often getting two very different messages. On one hand, they are told that they need to work towards a solution, and on the other, they are told that need to leave a partner who lies, cheats, steals, hits, yells, or belittles them. This book compares and contrasts of these concepts so that targets of any type of manipulation and abuse can make a more empowered decision. Some of the concepts covered are: Who are You to Judge vs. Being Discerning No One is Perfect vs. Tolerating Abuse You Need to Forgive Them vs. Keeping Yourself Safe A Parent vs. A Predator Commitment vs. Codependency Self-love vs. Selfishness A Person Acting the Part vs. A Person Actually Changing Gut Instincts vs. Hypervigilance A Friend vs. Someone Being Friendly Caring vs. Caretaking Being in Love With Them vs. Being in Love With Who They Pretended to Be Workable Behavior vs. Deal Breakers Acceptance vs. Allowance Going Through So Much Together vs. Being Put Through So Much By Them Sincerity vs. Intensity Healthy Bonding vs. Trauma Bonding Insincere Remorse vs. Sincere Remorse Reacting vs. Responding ...and many more.

Description : "Born in the cauldron of personal experience of suffering and healing and honed through years of professional experience, this book will help anyone understand the attractors of love and consequent suffering. I recommend it to couples who are mystified by the depth and repitition of their pain and joy and to therapists whose destiny is to help them." ~ Harville Hendrix, Ph.D., co-author with Helen LaKelly Hunt of Making Marriage Simple: Transform the Relationship you Have Into the Relationship you Want Since the dawn of civilization, men and women have been magnetically and irresistibly drawn together into romantic relationships, not so much by what they see, feel and think, but more by invisible forces. When individuals with healthy emotional backgrounds meet, the irresistible “love force” creates a sustainable, reciprocal and stable relationship. Codependents and emotional manipulators are similarly enveloped in a seductive dreamlike state; however, it will later unfold into a painful “seesaw” of love, pain, hope and disappointment. The soul mate of the codependent’s dreams will become the emotional manipulator of their nightmares. Readers of the Human Magnet Syndrome will better understand why they, despite their dreams for true love, find themselves hopelessly and painfully in love with partners who hurt them. This book will guide and inspire both the layman and the professional.

Description : In this anthology of plays by young emerging playwrights?Joseph Aragon (To Forgive, Divine), Ginny Collins (The Good Daughter), Rose Condo (pyg), David Ferber (PACT), and Primrose Madayag Knazan (Shades of Brown)?five exciting new voices tackle themes of forgiveness, teen suicide, self-image, cultural assimilation, and rum running on the prairies. To Forgive, Divine challenges the Christian principal of redemption as it affects a mother and daughter trying to find their way back to each other; Shades of Brown uses the Filipino immigration experience to explore cultural assumptions, interracial dating, racism, and that elusive sense of belonging that we call 'home'; The Good Daughter dives deep into the delicious genre of black comedy, exposing a highly dysfunctional family of three women running rum on the prairies; PACT looks at teenage suicide with a darkly hilarious, disturbing, and ultimately hopeful effect; and pyg tells the funny and touching story of one woman's struggle with loneliness and the relentlessly impossible ideals our culture's media imposes on us. Breakout takes the reader on a journey through the minds of five young and vibrant voices, capturing the angst and humour and heart of a generation of playwrights grappling with that precipice between the teen years and adulthood.

Description : Damaged Goods By: Darlene Krug Over the last two years, Darlene Krug has been encouraged by several women to write her story. As she was completing this memoir, she read about a woman in Denmark who wanted to be legally euthanized because she considered herself terminally ill due to childhood abuse. This gave Krug the impetus to place her book out in the world in hopes that her experiences might give knowledge and power to others. In this Damaged Goods, Darlene Krug recalls difficult memories of her abusive childhood as the scapegoat for her malignant narcissist mother. She recounts the events that led her into a codependent marriage to a covert narcissist. Her childhood caused so much trauma that she lived almost twenty-eight years with a covert narcissist, and nearly cost her the loss of everything, including her life. It took two significant events—her mother's death and her second husband's devious rejection—for her to finally make the transition from victim to survivor. During both events, Krug experienced what she refers to as "the Eyes of Satan,” or the psychopathic stare.

Description : “The most crucial relationship advice book since Men Are from Mars.”—Erin Meanley, Glamour.com A groundbreaking, interactive relationship tool that literally places in the hands of couples the power to transform chronically frustrating relationship dynamics. We've all been there. A conversation with a loved one escalates into conflict. Voices rise to a fever pitch and angry, accusative words fly through the air. At times like these, it seems impossible to find the magic words that will lead to healing. Enter Talk to Me Like I'm Someone You Love. A psychotherapist with decades of experience in counseling couples, Nancy Dreyfus hit upon the revolutionary practice outlined in this book during a couples-therapy session in which a wife’s unrelenting criticism of her husband was causing him to become emotionally withdrawn. In the midst of this, Dreyfus found herself scribbling on a scrap of paper, “Talk to me like I'm someone you love,” and gestured to the husband that he should hold it up. He did and within seconds the familiar power differential between the two shifted, and a gentler, more genuine connection emerged. Dreyfus was startled, then intrigued, and then motivated to create a tool that could help others. This book features more than one hundred of Dreyfus's "flash cards for real life," written statements that express what we wish we could communicate to the person we love, but either can't find the right words or the right tone in which to say it. The statements include: • Taking responsibility: "I realize I'm overreacting. Can you give me a minute to get sane again?" • Apologizing: "I know I've really hurt you. What can I do to help you trust me again?" • Loving: "You are precious, and I get that I haven't been treating you like you are." A one-of-a-kind, practical relationship tool, Talk to Me Like I'm Someone You Love will help couples to stop arguing and begin healing.

Description : "The most crucial relationship advice book since Men Are from Mars." —Erin Meanley, Glamour.com Talk to Me Like I'm Someone You Love is a brilliant interactive relationship tool that can help couples stop arguing and begin healing. Couples therapist Nancy Dreyfus hit upon this revolutionary practice during a particularly angry couples-therapy session in which a wife's unrelenting criticism of her husband was making him more and more emotionally withdrawn. Suddenly, Dreyfus found herself scribbling on a scrap of paper, "Talk to me like I'm someone you love," and gesturing to the husband that he should hold it up. He did, and within seconds, the familiar power differential between the two shifted, and a gentler, more genuine connection emerged. This revised edition features two new sections—one on making love and another on deepening trust—containing over 25 new "flash cards for real life," written statements that hold the power to express what we wish we could say to the person we love but for which we can't find either the right words or the right tone in which to say them. Each of the statements in this book is accompanied by "field notes" from the author that explain when, why, and how to use the statement, as well as real-life stories from the author's practice.
